KISS
I loaded up a few KISS songs and played through them all, no warm up, no practice. No hiding mistakes (they're all mine, I own them).
I try to play for 30-45 minutes per day minimum and this is a pretty common technique of mine. I load up a few songs and just play them. If I make mistakes, fix them next time i play it.

Great tip! What made you think to try the Lectric Shave on your heads?!?

I know it works on cleaning hockey goalie pads, so I figured I'd try it on the drum heads.

@@davidsimmsdrummer367 Interesting! I just picked up a bottle from Wal-Mart yesterday and tried it on several of my drumheads from different kits. It seemed to work best at removing the stick marks left by plastic-tipped sticks. If the marks are from wood-tipped sticks, it didn't seem to work quite as well. But the heads still looked better, regardless of the tip type. Again, thanks for sharing!

tom 3 rings its note for like 4 seconds and does not pitch down like, well like most would like to hear I think, and then tom 2 chokes out in .75 seconds and tom 1 is just well, just bad., so what is the purpose of this demo? was it to point out that it tells us all this info but in the end is not related to what sounds good or even subjectively? or?? Now I want to say that I realize tuning drums is a subjective process and subjective and result but let's all come to some sort of reasonable agreement somewhere in a big pool of what is acceptable and not and frankly if you're playing with this tuning I might suggest that you're not playing much with others because at some point someone's got to speak up and say hey man your Tom notes are all over the place and we need you to address that especially if you're recording I wouldn't even begin to sit down in the control room with these Toms tunings until we straighten that out first thing and live your sound engineer friend of the house is probably keeping your Tom's turned way down and is either too polite or just doesn't care enough to tell you about it and ask you to fix it but I guess you really can't tell a drummer to fix something if they don't already know it they're not going to be able to fix it I'm just saying if you're playing with this tuning I suggest that you are missing out on something much better and after all a good sounding instrument inspires us to play and I think inspires us to play better. These Tom tunings would not only not inspire me I would probably just remove them from the kit if that was all I had a choice of. I'm not trying to be an ass here to you I am trying to suggest that you might be (No you are) missing out on something much better, I see this videos a couple years old so hopefully you've come further and come along not only has a musician but as a technician of your own instrument, you should be able to whip out a good tuning in about an hour for a five-tom kit with new heads upper and lower by ear. I have seen guys use all kinds of these instruments if you will to tune drums with and not even one time not once have I ever seen any result that was anywhere close to pleasing to the ear or pleasing to play, having been a Studio owner and engineer and session player myself for 40 years I have seen plenty of these tools in all the time and some of them are pretty ingenious but in the end I don't know what it's supposed to tell us, it can give us some technical information I suppose, but it doesn't lead us to a better sound. Now I'm not unteachable and always invite new information that might show me where I've made a mistake or an error in my observations and when that day comes in this subject matter I will adjust my position but so far I still have not seen any of these tools worth $12 or 10 cents really. Every year at the conventions I go to I see some of these tools and every time it's folks using them that don't seem to have an ear and so they must rely on this I guess, I would suggest that people maybe just record single strikes off a kit you really like the sound of and then try to emulate that tuning on your own kit from those single strike recordings. Anyway just my two cents or maybe a little bit more.

Great sounding kit! 👌🏼 I would tune those floor toms much lower though...to get that nice fat rumble. That 16" almost sounds like my 12" 😁

Man, what memories this brings back. My first kit was a 1983 black Tama Swingstar, which I bought on layaway, and it seemed to take forever for me to pay that thing off and finally take them home! I loved those drums and played them (i.e., beat the crap out of them) for almost 20 years.

I got this in 1994 for Christmas, when I was 14. My parents found one in a pawn shop. Many great years played on it. God listening to you play them, they have the same sound as mine did. Wow it's cool how you can notice that signature sound to a particular kit. Not necessarily the tuning or playing style. Just the sound it makes.
