3417 returns to passenger traffic
Back in January, the Southern Electric Traction Group managed to get their preserved 4-VEP back on the mainline after a long period of restoration. Today, it carried passengers for the first time in many years as it took part in the Bluebell Railway’s diesel gala.
This video is taken at Kingscote. The first clip if of the VEP being propelled towards Horstead Keynes. Then a Class 20 (D8188) hauled train arriving in the same direction, followed by the 4VEP arriving again, this time with 33111 leading.
Unfortunately I was only at the Bluebell for a short time and didn’t get much video.

Keyham Devonport Siren Test (Audio)
Переглядів 206Рік тому
Audio of the Keyham Siren (Klaxon CS8) sounding. I was going to film the siren itself across the car park, but there were a couple of (presumably MOD) blokes giving me the evil eye. So to play it safe I went to a park on the other side of the railway and recorded from there. Not a great recording but in person it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. The siren is somewhat underpowe...

UKRailtours and Hastings Diesels Limited announced that they would be doing a tour to 13 of the 14 Mainline London Termini (excluding Moorgate for clearance and compatibility reasons) in one go. We decided to try and see the tour at all 13, and, for the most part, succeeded. The tour started at Liverpool Street, then travelled to Fenchurch Street, Kings Cross, Euston, St Pancras, Marylebone, Pa...

Best Great Northern Train
I will really miss the Class 319 on London Northwestern Railway as they are due to be replaced by the Clas 730/2 Aventras. Hopefully Northern should have them or are they going for scrap.
20's plenty...😊
Not on 3rd rail though.
@@IainDavies-z2l hopefully soon
Lovely video! All those curtains make me wonder how long laundry day takes. I remember riding on trains as a kid in the 1970s and 80s and the sometimes acrid smell of upholstery, with puffs of dust coming out of the seats when struck - was the upholstery ever intended to be cleaned?
It should have been, but we can afford to take things a bit more seriously than when 3417 was in service!
What a truly superb sight ! The TC stock presently with London Transport would look good with a Class 33/1 on the Bluebell line !
The LT set is well cared for. Perhaps there's enough unloved kit around to assemble a 4TC for the Bluebell?
GORDONS ALIVE!!!
Those screams give me valenta flashbacks, where is this? I assume ecml due to mk4 and hst signs

Thanks for the video, alot to film for this chase around London terminals!!😎🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇬🇧
The Class 319 and Class 455 are the greatest looking and sounding trains of all time 😍😍😍🐐🚉🚃💯🗣️.
That looks lovely 👍👍👍
Shame the leading 73 was running on diesel when there was a perfectly good juice rail it could've used.
It had to use diesel in the yard, but it was switched to electric during its journey to Waterloo
my local station
Very nice! Although won't these be getting phased out now, with the 701s finally coming in? Or are they getting a new lease of life somewhere else?
Unfortunately I think it’s the beginning of the end for them now
@@Jeagles Ah right.. well, I am always happy to get new trains (I currently go into the city around midday from Richmond so it's almost always a 455), even if it is better late than never. Although I'm not a fan of the ironing board seats that seem to be popular these days.. Air conditioning will definitely be very appreciated come the summer though. On one hand, the old trains are very nostalgic - it's such a historic electric railway just in general, and then to use trains still trooping away 40 years on, before getting on the bakerloo line which feels like even more of a heritage railway these days.. but on the other hand, such a well used system does deserve something a bit more cutting edge.
Lordz
Oh my gosh, a BR livery Class 455, WOW.
Can someone tell me what happened i saw this train once in a vedeo painted in London transport maroon
That was a diffrent Unit, a 4TC. This is a 4VEP. They are both MK1 design, but the 4VEP is a EMU and the 4TC is just fixed coaches with a cab at each end. They were used for trains running onto Weymouth from Bournemouth, having been pushed there by 4REP EMU's.
Ok thanks also what is VEP

1992 we went to the UK from Austria on a school trip. I remember going from London Victoria to Brighton on this type of train. The concept of your "own" door was new to us. If I remember correctly you could open the door only from the outside by open the window right?
Looking forward to seeing it travel under it’s own power.
Love the camera shake with whistle got you on nearly everyone lol
You won’t be surprised to hear that I get that comment on a lot of my videos…
I can imagine, it being a very loud and sudden noise.
I remember these from 1967 when they were introduced on semi-fast services on the LSWR mainline. I took them to and from Woking to Waterloo to got to school. They never were as clean as this then! Lovely to see one again, even though I'm a steam fan.
Amazing to see a 73 in 'Dutch' livery too. What a feast for the eyes
Interesting but it would have been interesting to see something of the routes that enabled the Hastings unit get between in each of termini. It must have been a complex journey.
I remember these coming into service to replace pre and early post war stock. More reliable and comfortable.
it looks like a brand new train i can't wait to see it running under it's own power again!!! Good video 🥰
that brings back many wonderful memories of draughty commutes into London from Kent. I used to work with Paul Taylor in the 90s, RIP mate, you were and still are Mr Electro Diesel. Very poignant.
Having Paul with us, even at a remove, was a fantastic touch. There were a few moist eyes at Waterloo….
Looks absolutely beautiful look at the first class, and when that was at its peak toilets were much better than today strains . Where was it going to some railway museum?
Off to Waterloo and then back for a small staff event and as a little test for the unit
Is it able to run on its own with the 3rd rail pick up
I wish the preserved trains have power on the railway to hear the classic motor sounds EE507
Fantastic! 👍 Isn’t that the ex “Borough of Eastleigh” 73? And of course the 4VEP set was stored on power at Eastleigh for a few years to prevent it being vandalised at EG. Fantastic job but some credit is definitely due to Knights Rail Services
seems the slam doors have gone for safety reasons surely one of thereasons for preserving th thing
They’ll have to be CDL fitted before the unit returns to service but in order to save costs some of the doors will be permanently locked out of use
Top video mate 👍 love to see 3417 get out from the depot. Bonus 73 thrash and all 😁
Cheers Nami
How come the 73 is running on diesel here?
To shunt the train in the yard, the 73s used diesel to avoid potentially stalling in the gaps in the third rail associated with complex pointwork found in depots
Proper livery is that.
...and suddenly it's 1976 again, and I'm on my way home from school!
excellent catch 👍i remember the old slam door trains on the southeastern line hope they do another run like this as i missed it this time around
Agreed re body work. I recall the original finish was not so glossy due to painting process. Why a class 73 at both ends? Are the driving trailers cosmetic?
The cabs will need the fitting of modern safety equipment before they are allowed to lead the train. All trains on the mainline these days need a GSMR radio and an OTMR data recorder which the group are still raising funds to buy and install.
My word, that looks smart. Whatever happened to the plan to get a Brighton Belle unit back on the mainline?
I think they’re still working on it. The 4VEP is a total restoration but the 5BEL is being completely rebuilt with new cabs, traction equipment, interiors etc. So progress is slow for them.
