    Many SaaS products have long low period before hitting any sort of hockey-stick growth, which is the result of the groundwork laid during those slower periods. When we joined YCombinator some companies in our cohort hit $1 million ARR in a year, while it took us like three years... Just keep on at it! Growth is generally is due to marketing traction. Retention is then more the functionality and market fit. I think you just need to be more intentional with marketing to see proper validation. A natural marketing angle to start would be to leverage your YT to expose your product more - maybe use your product in the context of building Notibly. Not exactly the "student" use-case but you're basically learning things to build your startup. It's essentially a learning management app so just use it to manage your startup learning stuff. Seems like a win-win - you're visually showing how your app works, you're genuinely using it to manage your learning to build your startup so it doesn't seem forced, and it's in line with your YT channel which is documenting the startup life. If you're getting things done, accomplishing goals, your YT channel grows, then it's a testament that your app works and helps with learning. Who knows, you've got a strong business startup niche viewership, you might even pivot the app to focus on helping solo dev startups rather than students if it works well for you haha Also, nice to see you whip out your laptop and grinding during your travels!

    I'm also in the progress of developing my own saas product and I do hear you about doubts and worrying about comitting all this time to something that is not guaranteed but from what I see you're doing an incredible job. I think it be best to give it your all because the worst thing that could happen is it doesn't work out, but it comes with learning a lot about all the experiences you went through and now you have a project to base your next idea on. And the next project won't take as long because you know how to do stuff like setup stripe, etc. I personally love creating a project that would help somebody out there. I would be so very ecstatic if I had even one person using my site but I'm personally nowhere near that stage yet. The way I see it is if the product is good and solves their problem the people will come. Anyways I don't want to create the next bible in the youtube comments so good luck hopefully everything works out for ya!

    • @ryanburryy
      @ryanburryy 3 дні тому

      @@Lombok197 yeah I agree, the only reason I’m against that is because the overhead with AI and storage will grow as it scales. Which is why I’m starting to lean more towards the good notes route of the cheaper yearly subscription. But maybe since students would technically only use it for 4-5 years, maybe a one time fee could off set it…definitely something to think about

    Big props for being transparent, man. Everybody said already how unprofessional that hiring process was, but you will not need to wait too long until you will need to hire few people quick and might do same hiring mistakes. I have been interviewing a lot of people and sometimes HR process didn't work well and you (technical person on a team) will end-up interviewing a candidate that was clearly far from needed skill set. The company I work for now can afford me spending time with struggling candidate for an hour, even though I know from first 10 minutes we will not hire the candidate. But a small startup when it has short budget it has to do things quickly. Haha, but again, it will not take long until you will be making video on how you had to cut interview short with a candidate after 9 minutes.

Just building your own ideas and having fun coding is just so different from just doing what you're being told in a project that's not really yours in a company and stuff. That company sounds unprofessional, you wouldn’t have wanted to work with people like that - different companies use different strategies for interview techniques; it is much nicer to have a take-home assignment yeah. Unfortunately, you can get data structure and algorithm questions, esp. if they are looking for candidates with a CS degree. Well done on maintaining such a healthy mindset in relation to your experience though, it’s easy to let it get to you; and it sucks when you dwell on stuff like that - I bombed a final stage interview with Morgan Stanley (after five initial interviews) & yeah, it was a pretty similar situation; mind goes blank and you’re like, focusing too much on the fact that your mind has gone blank haha. It happens to everyone, just got to get some more practice in! Keep pursuing the passion mate, you’re inspiring other people and it’s great to watch!

      Also you did dodge a bullet with that company! I'm also self taught, no papers (formal education), etc. I had a situation where I went for an interview (coding test on paper lol) and they looked at me all weird + said I'm asking for too much money with no formal education. I went through the whole interview and tried to leave ASAP; 3 days later ended up getting an offer from a far bigger company and with a much better salary than I asked for. Some interviews/tests I was asked to do during my job search were so pointless I decided to not proceed with certain companies. The interview process is by far the hardest but the company have to also make it good.

      coding on paper 💀 yeah exactly it goes both ways. i’m at the point now if i get another interview and they just jump right into a coding question without giving me any background info on the company i’m gonna just be like “yeah, i’m good” the market is making it so one sided right now so they can pretty much do whatever they want, but at least give me a damn reason to want to work for you.

I was supposed to make it through 3 questions in 1hr and didn't even get through the first.
