In 2016 I started re-reading the first 5 books, assuming by the time I was done that the Winters of Winter would be done. Re-reading them went a lot more quickly than I expected, and I remember that I had forgotten a lot of things (likely re-forgotten them now). Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see the Winters of Winter, and I'm sure that there is no hope for A Dream of Spring. Still, the first five books really are great, and there are a lot of other great books to read.

the man should of had an editor as early as book 3, someone challenging "is this story line nessisary? Does it actually further the story" there are too many story lines for him to follow

GRRM and Rothfuss are having a hard time writing on a full belly. A hungry author will always right hoping he'll never be hungry again.

I have noticed and others have as well that he's showing all the signs of a drug addiction. Get help! Get better then get the books done.

The Aven Cycle got dropped and has to be self published after DAW died. A book series that is one of my favourites and that I absolutely recommend. It was an amazing take on a Rome in a fantasy world. Yet, Pat indirectly killed DAW and thus made that series harder to publish. Despite that, we still got book three of the series and the author has likely made more progress on book 4 than Pat has on his 3rd book.

Even if Winds of Winter ever gets done a dream of spring will never happen.

Perfectionism doesn’t destroy artists, arrogance does, and Rothfuss is clearly full of himself. It is often enough true that writers lower themselves for the sake of the story, I think of Cormac McCarthy, American writer who lived in poverty and obscurity until he was in his 50s. He never did talk shows in his early career, he didn’t go about raving on about his genius and how hard it is to be a writer (even though it is). He lived a simple life and dedicated himself to his work. If Rothfuss spent more time immersing himself in his work instead of bandying on about political melodrama, Doors of Stone might actually exist and the series as a whole might be of a much greater quality. He’s in need of some serious self reflection. I think wealth and fame ruins artists, arrogance most of all.

Why is it a lie that he had the whole set completed? Rework happens. New ideas come in, old ideas leave as we age into different versions of ourself. I'm pretty sure Kvothe is a stylized version of himself. He is constantly embellishing, especially in A Wise Man's Fear. Artists play on the edge of reality and imagination. Expect not constancy, lest we be bored with it's results. Pat, if you see this, Love you Brother. You got this.

William Shatner and Robin Williams both used 4chan. What younger people don't realize is back in the day the internet was a lot smaller and there was a higher barrier of entry. In those days, 4chan was one of the more popular websites. In a time of major decentralization, 4chan was one of the few epicenters. Also board culture was quite a bit different back then.

Why couldn't I get into Brandon Sandersons books instead ... sigh... Yes, like many ASOIAF fans I have tried Sanderson and Wheel of Time, it just don't hit the same for me. Sorry. It's a curse and a blessing, I love GRRM's fantasy writing so much yet the way he writes and the worlds that he builds are kind of unsustainable. What the story needed is focus and a thread to collapse into. Instead it's endlessly expanding. That's really exciting, but ... you know.. unsustainable...

I think his plan to finish the story in two books and his 'gardening' method of writing is fundamentally at odds, and he is not able to integrate them. If he had just given up on the "only two more books" idea I bet he could have published many books during the time he has worked on Winds of Winter

its fun to reread 1 & 2 at least. just did that myself. and you know what? book 2 is basically two books in one. so i feel like we already have 3 books. the story could end this way and it would be fine. i suggest next publisher just chops book 2 into two books and calls the third book something else. poof. yer done. he can move on to writing or doing something else creative and remove this albatross from his neck

What I've always said. When GRRM realized Got was gonna be his legacy. He started doing all the work that Tolkein spent decades doing for LOTR before he wrote a single chapter of his first book. As in writing the history, culture, and languages. That's why we've gotten prequel and history books instead of the continuation of the main series. I wouldn't doubt he has finished Winds of Winter multiple times. And then rewritten after being dissatisfied with it. Due to fleshing out the series as a whole

Face it he is never going to write it, he has effectively written himself into a corner, with too many things that have to be resolved and add to this what I perceive to be his dread of thos final novel being panned - my opinion is that the books had been getting steadily worse anyway Like it or not the ending of the TV series is probably the only closure we are going to get for years if ever

I love the first 2 books, always will regardless of the slow/no progress on the 3rd book. If it comes out great but if not and he fades away, I imagine that there will be a great deal of authors who will do something similar with a kvothe like story. Dude needs to speak to Adrian T on how quickly he writes and get a sense of peace from being ok to publish something you don't 100% like, the fans decide if its good or not. Trust your fans and they trust you.

Honestly I just dont expect TWOW to be released ever but i know whatever George writes will be better than the last few seasons of GoT show.

Not sure why YT recommended me this, as I never read ASOIAF, but listening through this, it seems like George might’ve bit off more than he can chew. Burnout this bad, pressure from fans, and how the show turned out makes me think that the book might never come out, and I’m surprised that there hasn’t been an announcement about it. Would it suck? Probably. But it feels better than stringing along an audience. Great video. Can tell I’ll be coming back to this one as I’ve experience similar burnout with writing fanfiction

To sympathize with the author, I could see how George might hold an acute contempt for you people. I don’t see a way I could finish a novel series if the TV series of it was hated, because I couldn’t possibly write something I didn’t think was inherently cool and worth writing, something I’m excited about.

In my opinion, the most realistic projection would be of Martin finishing The Winds of Winter in the next few years but dying while writing A Dream of Spring and someone else having to fill in to finish the series. That sounds cruel, but the guy isn't exactly young and fit, and if it takes him 15 years to write the second to last book, I have little to no confidence of the actual last book actually being completed.

Real ones know winds of winter will be GRRM's second Avalon. #IFYKYK Ps its been 20 years and we still haven't got Avalon

I don´t even remember the books, I remember I liked them, but I couldn´t tell you what they were about (other that some random moments).

Something is very very wrong with this entire situation. I feel like I am involved in an incredibly dysfunctional relationship full of empty promises. I love George but I am coming to terms with the fact Winds of Winter will never be published. He is living his best life right now and his days are getting shorter. I think all of this is over for us. We will never know how any of this is supposed to end I really want to be wrong but I think this is hopeless
