    Tighten the triple tree nut or if it is older bike try tighten the dampner

      It looks like it was most likely loose rockers on the lower part of the front end. When I took the front end apart they basically just flopped around. At the same time I replaces the races and the neck bearings.

    For a long time I never took forks apart. And it was always a mystery how they worked. Not that I really understand totally how they work now but I do know how they go apart and back together.

      @daygersden wow it looks like you've had some really cool automobiles. I work for a guy that was a hydraulics engineer here in town. And he would often buy a house and then I would do the work. He was head of the Corvette club here in South bend Indiana for many years. At one time he built a dune buggy which he was into doing dune buggy stuff it had a gasoline motor if I remember it was a kit and you could put in any motor you would get the basic dune buggy kit. But it would drive the motor would drive the gasoline motor would drive hydraulic pumps and that's what propel the tires. But he found out the insurance on selling kits such as this was astronomical. But he was a smart engineer in hydraulics

      @MoeLarrycurly1 when I bought this house I couldn't fit both cars and at the time had 5 bikes. Since I didn't want to leave the cars outside I had to sell them. My old house the garage was 3 stories 3 bays. Full basement and 3rd floor workshop. Cars were stored on the second floor. Wish I had that garage at my current house

    • @MoeLarrycurly1
      @MoeLarrycurly1 2 дні тому

      @daygersden Well I moved here in roseland Indiana. In 1979 I moved out of the big city south of us. I bought that house when I was a junior in high school but about once a year the house would get broken into while my wife and I were at work cuz we work third shift. After three or four times of that. We were tired of it we moved up here to Rosemont you know he has about 607 people in the town. Only paid $19,000 for the house or they're about but it has about a third acre. The house was pretty bad The whole town of Roseland pretty much was efficient village. But the lake to the west of us was drained for the toll road system. And the interchange. In about 27 years ago I tore that house down and built this house. One March day I just started cutting the roof off. The wife got worried so I went and bought a 30x60 tarp and threw it over the top. In the end we cut up a whole house and stuck it in a dumpster and then we started building and going upward and build a two story. Mainly it was friends from the neighborhood the kids that grew up around here. They were mainly in construction that time. And they would bring some friends that would want to come and work nobody ever got paid they were just nice that they did that. My wife and I at the time work first shift and we got home and we started doing second shift on the house. And we'd work till dark or past. Then in '05 I tore down the little teeny my leg garage and actually build a 24x36. And they're already was built probably a 20x20 behind it attached to it and I bought the house in 79. When my son was little in 1984 we built a little addition on the back of that of probably 15 by 15 just to hold all my bits and bobs. As I tended to do a lot of work on the side plumbing heating and air roofs whatever anybody wanted. But I kept a regular job during my working career. Mostly doing maintenance. My favorite they didn't pay much was it the local museum. And several churches and the hospital.

    I did take my front end apart to the point of checking the bearings in the races and just putting new grease in. That's weird you couldn't get the dampers in. But I've only done front ends on a few bikes so I have no expert there

    Now on mine on the 80 and which I thought was right also for the mayday holder for that terminal block in the headlight The bracket you have yours upward minus downward. Don't know if it really matters but in the 1980. Has one and that's how I replicated it in the 1970 as the sheet metal bracket instead of a. it was v. if that makes sense

    You know I've been thinking about making a little knob to release the pressure on the press rather than to take the arm out of the slot and use it I can look around I've got a bunch of old metal knobs maybe I can make one work and use a set screw to hold it so you can like release the pressure on the pump.

  • @MoeLarrycurly1

    Well I guess that's the between step before you actually have to put a metal shim in between the two.. I've shimmed many different types of exhaust making a circular piece of metal so when you put the clamp on the exhaust the shim takes up the space.

      normally if you had a metal lathe you could just get the adapter to knurl parts.

    • @MoeLarrycurly1
      @MoeLarrycurly1 9 днів тому

      @daygersden yeah I've never had a metal lathe either I've worked a wooden lathe. I had wood shop in high school but we moved and I couldn't get into the automotive nor could I get into metal shop cuz they were full. So is the wood shop. And they had a class about melting lead steel etc. My father worked at a gray iron foundry so I took that class. I knew about gray iron I knew about melting metal

  • @MoeLarrycurly1
    @MoeLarrycurly1 9 днів тому

    Many many years ago I read somewhere if you don't have the money put new Pistons and you've got loose pistons were you use a file and I guess you give some kind of knurling effect to take up and make the piston skirts stand out more so they don't slap. I guess this was the last ditch effort if you don't have any money for new Pistons. I remember reading that

      @daygersden Well I've been trying to get a tire off a rim and after I get the new tire on the rim it wouldn't go on it wouldn't pump up all the way or something I mean it wouldn't fill the rim correctly so I've been wrestling with that. After several hours I gave up. I'm finding another tire to put on that rim. It was like I was putting a 15-in tire and a 16-in rim..

    • @daygersden
      @daygersden 18 днів тому

      @MoeLarrycurly1 rim damage?

    • @MoeLarrycurly1
      @MoeLarrycurly1 18 днів тому

      @daygersden no I don't think so there was some paint and rust in there and I've gotten rid of that which I should have done that before I started trying to stick a tire on it. This is the one that I had to loosen all the spokes on one side by 10 turns and tighten the ones on the left hand side seven turns to move the hub over so things lined up meaning chain brake rotor and positioning it in between the fender rails. I found another tire out there in the garage still on a rim. I broke it off the rim I did the bee breaking sometimes that's the hardest part but I made a bee breaker.. So tomorrow I'll try and take that tire off and you reuse that tube because tubes are so expensive today. And take that tiring tube and stick it on the other rim which I already have and working well with that bike. I'll keep trying

      Very funny story….as I just got back from hf with camera…the sales lady asked me if I wanted a 2 year warranty, I said no as I’m probably gonna use only once and then not for a long time! Well after that statement her eyes bugged out and then she clicked the cash register and she printed a receipt with stated **restocking fee if returned** she even verbally told me and highlighted it! I guess people have been doing this to them! Thanks again for your good video!

    put a coat of oil on the tensioner shaft and a little on the spring tang that goes into the backing plate. Helps with pressing the tensioner on.

    New bearings and cups ' the base cup on my bike broke ' sheared ' in half the base bearing cup takes a lot of stress ' i was told ' and its worth replacing all.

      According to the manual, doesn't look like you can get the race out without drilling a hole in the back of the cup. Removal tools won't fit under the race. I ordered two new cups.

      The triple trees seemed really tight and rough once I took the front end apart. Bearings didn't seem worn so it might just have been torqued wrong. Either way it's all being replaced.

    62 dollars on ebay for that tool. I was going to do hydraulic conversion but after pricing I can't see where it's worth the money

      Only ones I saw were around 66 bucks made in China. Didn't really go thru the whole list. Mines is a V-Twin product, if you can get it for 62 bucks scoop it up, never know when down the line you'll need it.
