Aww you could have just woven in the loose ends. In my experience frogged yarn(especially if frogged after a long time) has a lot of kinks in then and never fall as nicely as new yarn.

So, I really liked the look of this dress and am trying to make it, but I couldn't get the top portion to work for me, so I did modify it a bit, using a double crochet foundation stitch for just under the bust, then after you connect it, chaining about 22 stiches, and then SC in the back loop to create a ribbed bust. Should have the same look at the end though.
