To me the compact is more focused in the mids, while the big Recto 2x12 is more scooped in the mids with a little deeper low end too.

Dream guitar, special semi hollow with 57/08s
Do you notice any unbalanced feel between bottom and lower strings on the hybrid set? What's your choice? Thanks

When mic'd speaker. Makes no difference between these two. In the room matters
Wonder which 57/08's. I have an original set that came in my sunburst 22 in 2008, way less DC resistance than any 57/08 since. Specially the off the shelf ones. I haven't found a later set that sounds like what came in 08 guitars.

@@Kroysong Yea, even the ones in guitars in later years are a little different. Still a great PU. For me the new 58/15's are a bit too scooped in the mids.
@@Kroysong Don't understand Paul's obsession with TCI to make a humbucker sound more like a single coil. I play humbuckers cause they don't sound like single's.
@@Kroysong Yea, the stated dc resistance on the new ones is bass 8.5k treb 8.9k, I believe from web site. mine are bass 7.75k and treb 8.15k. for awhile they sold limited "endorser" sets to a select few. Buddy of mine came across a set and it has a treble of 8.58k treb 7.8k. The TM's that came in later guitars I'm not sure but from what I've seen used are around bass low 8k treb mid 8k. I also use a couple of sets of 245 PU's that sound close. Touch hotter n touch more mids. 245's n Mira PU's were same just 245 had cover,Mira no cover. Later the sold Mira's with the rectangular bobbins. If you already knew all this then never mind.😁

Ca sonne super bien, ça réagit bien au potard volume, le son clair est magnifique, et en saturé c'est plein d'harmoniques ;) en même temps quand je vois ton matos , y'a que du bon derrière, mesa, vox , t'es habitué au bon gout ^^. super jeu aussi ;)

sounds like the mark v is tighter when overdriven, but the lone star cleans up nicer

Man i wish more demo vids were like this. Skip the overwrought talking and get straight to the comparison. And the comparison is to the point, low and high register playing, dynamic, both pickups. Just a great vid man 57/08 for me btw, and great playing 🤘🏼🙏🏻

They both sound good, to my ear the Area 58 has a bit more sustain and fullness, just a little less treble. Close to the end 1:39 ish demonstates this.
Wow the drop in bass was huge when changing to the compact. I want that bass!
I have a 2x12 compact. This video is exactly how I'm sounding and how I want to sound. Changing my cabinet.

I don't have the recto, but I play with the band thru a Laney 212 which is basically a copy of it (measures and V30 speakers, not Mesa V30s tho) and I find it very directional and boomy... Do you happen to have the same issue with the rectocab?
Thanks for this comparison! I'm building myself a new mesa, basically a IIC+ with more channels and "mods" taken from other Mesa.. at first I was into the mark V, but now I think that the Lonestar will be my "channel 2" (and maybe also the 1). I'm getting older.. :)

Glad to help! 😊 For me the 57/08 has more "clarity" in the sound and sings a little more but both are great pickups

Do you get noise with the V-Mod? I have the N3 on my Deluxe, want to change for V-Mod but I use high gain, I'm afraid it to be have lots of noise.

I recently got a Road King 2x12, have previously played through Recto 4x12 and 2x12, but also have a Recto 1x12. Though all have V30 speakers, the cabinet depth makes a massive difference in how full each cabinet sounds. The cabs with less depth definitely sound more peaky, nasal, or midrange-focused than the deeper cabinets. Your video does a great job of making this apparent.
I can totally attest to this. I recently got a Roadster 2x12 combo and by biggest complaint is the nasal, honky no balls tone. Whereas when I mic a my 5150 412 it’s super thick. On top of that my V30s are from the not so great era of production.
