I read ACOMAF in October which was great. I loved it. I'm currently reading ACOWAR and i'm having the best time. I also read The Blood Stones by Tori Tecken. I think Robbie might really enjoy it
I'm looking forward to this month, I heard you guys want to read The Poppy War and I'll love it if that's the case.
@@MariaOzienedeOliveiraOliveira yes! I (Robby) will probably have it be the next series I read once I finish the Powder Mage trilogy
not surprised, tho very happy to see u again! <3
@@xLaz21 happy to be back!
I'm rereading The Diary of Anne Frank, it's going to be quite a journey. As much as I love the Riordanverse videos, I'm not upset about this month-long break, I can wait until you guys start The Kane Chronicles ^^ If you have no idea what to read this month, you could check out the book "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" and then we could get Robby's reaction to the book since Liz has already read it.
@@lucasoliver2571 o wow I haven’t read the Diary of Anne Frank since I was a kid. A powerful story
What a fun video, you can see how passionate you guys are about Percy Jackson
❤❤❤❤
What a great video as always, I can't wait to see what books are next for the channel
Coming soon!
I really don't understand books like this gaining fame when there are better books out there that deserve the fame of this book.
I agree, this book had some serious flaws. I hope the author manages to turn it back around in the next one, or if not that something new comes along of higher quality that people can latch on to.
Commenting here to help the algorithm
Great video ❤❤ I never miss a video
Thank you!
This is one of my favourite books. But mostly the Rand scenes. Or Rand and Min. Or Rand and Cadsuane. I would never include this book as part of the slog. A tip to those fans who read and reread the story and still complain about the slog: There is no rule or law in reading that says you have to read the parts that don’t interest you! ESPECIALLY on a reread! The slog disappeared for me the minute I finished the series, because now I only read the pages I want to. So now, none of the books are bad. Just shorter. 😉
I really like this take, definitely started skimming parts while reading WoT myself.
If you want, there are short stories that crossover between The Kane Chronicles and Percy Jackson that you can read after finishing TKC.
O cool! I didn't know those existed, thanks for the heads up.
What a long journey, and we're not even halfway through lol Next up in the timeline is The Kane Chronicles, just to be clear (this new trilogy that's currently being released is set before The Trials of Apollo, so don't worry about spoilers). PJO > HoO > TKC > MC > The new trilogy > ToA > The Sun and the Star
I know, it's wild how many of these there are. I think we may take a little break from the Riordan verse for a minute, but I know we'll be back to continue on. It's too good to pass up
I loved this book so much! Part 1 is just so heartbreaking with Tamlin and everything. And then part two with the cozyness and the found family and Velaris 🥰🥰. And then the end got intense. It just worked for me and it was exactly what my brain needed right now and i love it
Yea, a HUGE step up from the last book IMO. Really enjoyed this one.
I love you guys’s vibes and this video idea is so good !! Happy to have discovered you as creators !!
So glad you found us! Welcome!
Saying she really likes a character that most people probably don’t like: names the character many many many many manymanymany people rate as the best character of the entire series. 😂
Holy #&@$! Found your reactions this morning, interesting to hear your perspective, but I actually had a “WTF?!!” Stopped my work cleaning, had to go over to my phone to comment when you said Rand and Nynaeve are “pompous brats”. Are. You. Serious?!!! Rand is the furthest thing you can get from pompous at this point in the story!! Which is why I DON’T find his relationship with Aviendha fun or balanced. She is mean. He tries to be kind to her, tried to understand her and she constantly cuts him down and calls him ignorant. Which is the big issue with most the women around him. Rand is so filled with self-doubt, scrambling to APPEAR as a tough, knowledgeable leader, but his inner thoughts tell us he is pretending as hard as he can. Elayne, Aviendha, and especially Egwene keep trying to take him down a peg, when he’s already at the bottom of the pegboard. And even if he was self-assured, he IS the Dragon Reborn, a ruler of the nations (nations he tries hard to help), and a powerful channeler. The way they treat him is beyond disrespectful. I love these books, and am impressed with character like Nynaeve, Min, Birgitte. Well written female characters written by a man are rare. Too often men, (and women) write women like Elayne, Aviendha, and Egwene.
Right after watching this video, i ran to the attic to grab one of my childhood favorites and i just reread it. It's a series called Martine. It's a Belgian children's book series about this little girl who has very ordinary, slice of life little adventures and i loved them. My two favorites were the one where she is invited to a dress-up party and has to find a costume (that's the one i just reread) and the one where she goes to ballet class. That second one is the whole reason i did ballet as a child. I loved them so much and rereading one of them was just wonderful
That sounds beautiful! I always love hearing about the books people loved when they were younger
This was so beautiful and it made me want to reread all of my favorites. Happy anniversary!!!!!!!
@@thefairylibrarian3282 ❤️
This was nice! I’m a rare fantasy-loving millennial who never read Harry Potter, but I’m watching the movies now and realizing how great it is.
@@tayking1256 o my god you’re a unicorn, truly the rarest of fantasy fans
It wasn't a book but an author who encouraged me to read more was Jane Austen, she helped me get into reading and she shaped my taste for books.
@@MariaOzienedeOliveiraOliveira you have very good taste, Liz loves Jane Austen
That was really beautiful!
@@cozydayzandnightz thanks!
The book that encouraged me to read more was Coraline, I already loved the film and when I discovered the existence of the book I had to have it right away. Today we are in a strange situation where the author of Coraline is surrounded by controversy and we don't know the truth of everything, but I am grateful that one of his books pushed me into the world of books. Honorable mention: Percy Jackson, that's my "Harry Potter" 😂😂
@@lucasoliver2571 absolutely, you can still be grateful for the work. I feel like there is a whole generation of readers who would say Percy Jackson is their Harry Potter and I love that
Happy birthday to your channel ❤
Thank you!
Happy anniversary! 🎉
Thank you!
I really need to continue with Heroes of Olympus. I was doing a reread of Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus so i could read Trials of Apollo, but i fell off and i really need to get back to it. I'm currently reading ACOMAF. I'm really enjoying it, but the subject matter is intense
@@thefairylibrarian3282 yea ACOMAF is very intense a ton happens. Interested to see your thoughts!
There is a trilogy that I would like to recommend, but these books are quite heavy. The first book is called "The Poppy War" by R. F. Kuang and it takes a lot of courage to face the heavy themes in it.
@@lucasoliver2571 the Poppy War is pretty high on my (Robby) TBR. I think I will probably start it sometime in the next few months
It's Halloween month! I hope this month is more productive than September. I'm looking forward to the next books.
@@lucasoliver2571 Happy Halloween month!
❤❤🎉🎉
Great video, you guys are really hard working
I loved this book! But I am also annoyed with Nesta and don’t care about her much. I care more about Elaine
Yes!
Completely agree, her being mean to Elaine is where I draw the line
I’m still on KOA from throne of glass and I’ll be reading ACOTAR next. Still wanted to watch this video though in the hope I won’t remember any spoilers 😂
Is this Acotar "novela" like an extra book? I only think about that Percy Jackson extra book, is it in the same vibe? If I "skipped" this book, wouldn't I lose any context? Great video by the way
Thanks! There are some important plot points that happen in this book so I think you should definitely read it if you are reading the whole series
I’ve been reading the series for the first time. I’m actually on the same pace as you guys which makes it awesome to go watch these videos right after I finish a book. Just recently started winter’s heart and so far the prologue has been great.
Awesome! So glad you are reading along!
By the way, a moment that also left an impression on me: Percy poisoning the goddess of poison! It gave me flashbacks of Katara bending blood in Avatar
@@lucasoliver2571 oooooo I love this call out! Didn’t think of it that way, that’s really cool
Easily the best book in this series, and from here on things got more intense (both in the other sagas that continue the stories of Camp Half-Blood and the sagas of other mythologies) "Bob says Hi" left me feeling quite affected for a while 😂😂
@@lucasoliver2571 yea Bob says hi is gonna stick with me I think
Coming back to watch this after I just finished TOD . I definitely enjoyed some parts of the book however there were alot of moments i was bored with the elaborate descriptions etc. I really enjoyed Yrene and Choals storyline however found myself bored with Nesryn. I pretty much agree with everything you said in the video. Was not a bad read, just a little drawn out. Bring on KOA!
Totally agree, I think the bones of something good are in there, there is just too much padding around it all.
Could you start with the second book? Im 30% through the grace of kings but just struggling to keep interest, and i keep hearing how amazing the second book is and how great the series is, so my interest is definitely there
I think it would be really tough to just jump into the second book with this series. I know book 1 can be a challenge, but it does so much set up for everything that comes after.
I loved this week's video ❤
@@MariaOzienedeOliveiraOliveira thanks!
I don't find it as common that people who love novels also speak about manga, which is unfortunate, but also a pleasant surprise for me to learn about you.
@@cozydayzandnightz glad you found us then!
I can't believe it's September already. Wasn't July like last week? My favorite read of August was Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert (the second book in the Brown Sisters trilogy). I really recommend that series to Liz! I feel you on the library roulette. I suddenly got 3 SJM books at the same time: Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows and ACOMAF, so at least one of those will happen in September. Also, it might finally be time to read The Wall of Storms. It's really calling to me atm.
@@thefairylibrarian3282 do itttt! Never a bad time for more dandelion dynasty
Oh, and I support a video with Robby giving his opinion on Evelyn Hugo
@@lucasoliver2571 I will get to it at some point, just not sure when yet
@@bookwormcouple take your time
I KNEW LIZ WOULD LIKE TAYLOR JEKINS REID!! Another recommendation of her work: Daisy Jones and the Six I'll be waiting for the review of The House of Hades as always. ❤
I found that reading Assassins Blade after Heir of Fire was the most enjoyable way
Agreed about the pacing issues in this one. I thought there were some momentous events (Bowl use, Elayne’s unweaving explosion, and obviously the Callandor debacle), but since none of these were Forsaken battles at the end of the book, a lot of readers finish this one feeling it was anticlimactic.
@@mcina001 yea I also doesn’t help that most of the big stuff happens right at the beginning or end leaving a lot of the middle to flounder a bit.
Great to see you back on WoT 'Express' Too bad you're now in the part of the journey that falls into dark territory, both in terms of pacing (like being on a Stops All Stations Clacker just after you've ridden on a Bullet Train Express) and content (Perrin/Faile; Elayne's Travel Delays; Egwene's Politically imposed tiptoe towards besieging Tar Valon; No MAT!... etc) Coupled with these obstacles you have two fundamental changes in what Jordan is trying to accomplish... And actually managing to complete. For the first time in the Series the 'Try' and the 'Do' don't mesh. At all. And the book suffers for it. Greatly. The Prologue heralds Jordan's heedless redirection into plotting nebulously while introducing additional and new characters alike. Where before he had been content to have antagonists simmer vaguely about 'What' they were up to, their motivations and thus their overall intent were always clear. Starting with The Borderlanders, then Moridin, then Verin later on, Jordan is now desperate to bury a whole lot of plotting nothing, in layers of obtuse innuendo, confusing his bloody minded authorial douchebaggery with 'masterful plotting.' For me, it was tiresome, not masterful at all. Until Aviendha's unravelling web, Path of Daggers was working well enough. After that, both the structure and the nuance Jordan chose to colour between the lines with, ranged from inevitable boredom to deliberate authorial disdain. Most glaringly, the book is incomplete. The only way it could have ended more abruptly would have been if Jordan had inserted the old faithful 'You Woke Up And it was just a Dream' trope. It basically reads to me like, 'It's been over two years since the last book. You're nowhere near finished. Pick a Part. End it. Leave the rest of it sitting in a heap for the next book And to me, that's what characterises the 3 books spanning Crown of Swords and Knife of Dreams. Incomplete Narrative Arcs. 9 years of reading and waiting, while wallowing in deliberately incomplete Narrative Arcs. It's much easier to come to terms with now, since it's all available... And in multiple modes of media consumption. But the rank feelings have stayed with me these 25+ years. And reflecting on the books involved just brings them boiling up to the surface. Once we finally get to Rand (and it took almost 300 pages in my old original hardcover IIRC) the dynamic of distrust is blatantly clear. However, what made it worse for me then was how clear it seemed that Jordan distrusted his readers and was being deliberately diffuse, in all aspects of what he wrote. He was tying himself into a pretzel that made the Gordian Knot look like a simple loop the loop shoelace by comparison, all so he could ensure readers knew that so many deep and meaningful things were happening, but he would be damned if you could access any directional crumbs at all, in order to develop any sort of authentic idea of what those happenings were, and what they might then presage. On the surface, the concept of The Fog of War was entirely valid. But Jordan wrote most of it with such a mean spirit, I didn't really care. While it was interesting to actually see a character we had long suspected of being sus, like Weiramon, being blatantly exposed, it didn't add up to anything in the end... Probably because the narrative arc wasn't halfway done when the page count ended. Rand's practical hubris (entirely separate to any taint associated madness, as you tried to emphasise in your video) was nicely introduced and developed, but didn't actually get anywhere, because of the book's arbitrary ending. In talking about the nebulous conclusion of the Battle with the Seanchan, you touched the basic markers well, but completely ignored the nature of the weapon Rand was intending to replicate. In The Shadow Rising, Book 4, after The Stone withstands a Trolloc and Darkfriend Assault, Rand uses the added boost of Callandor to wipe them out completely by creating a vortex of Power that could surgically target Shadowspawn after Rand brings it to singularity with his channeling, then releases it. He tries to adapt this to something more nebulous (his enemies) thinking to focus on The Seanchan in this book, but the outcome - where Bashere has to tackle him to actively stop it ('You're killing us man!') because he was seemingly killing his own people - actually makes explicit (imo) that Rand has enemies everywhere, not just those he regards as such in that moment. So, despite the newly revealed flaw in Callandor, the reader should be able to understand that it actually worked well in terms of overall effect. The Seanchan considered themselves Defeated, whether Rand saw it as such or not. Unfortunately the subsequent willy nilly ending detracts from any further room for the reader to contemplate that, never mind the author actually explicating it artfully... Although in that particular mood, maybe it's doubtful Jordan would have been so kind. The rest of the book is basically covered by 'this is going to take longer than I thought ' plotting contrivances, ranging from Egwene's careful politicking, to Elayne's Weather Change and Incomplete Unravelling Web One Power Associated roadblocks. And sandwiched among all that, is Perrin. And Faile. And Masema. Hated most of this storyline... Mainly because of how diminished Perrin is as a Character. The best redeeming feature is definitely Rand's relationship with Min. I also enjoyed everything written from The Seanchan pt. of view, be it through the eyes of Lady Suroth or the occasional Seanchan Soldier/Officer. These parts were largely untainted by Jordan's determinedly diffuse writing elsewhere. I terms of Rand & Min's relationship, I enjoyed it most because unlike the cultural and hierarchical intricacies inherent in any relationships Rand develops or might develop with Aviendha and Elayne respectively, his relationship with Min is what Rand always happily thought of it as, and occasionally explicitly analysed it to Min herself as such... The last dregs of normality - where what is left of what Rand truly associates as Himself resides. And he's never needed that more than during this book. That's quite the forgiving score you gave it in the end. I hope those vibes remain just as positive for the next two books... And I have no doubt that just in case you lose them in the meantime, you will have no trouble reclaiming them once you get to Knife of Dreams. However dark the territory may seem in the meantime, my heartfelt best wishes for great WoT reading experiences ahead!
You always have great points when evaluating the books you are going to read, I wish I had the same critical eye as you both 😂❤
