Btw if your sleeping on Del valle then I wouldnt. Cheaper housing. And I personally out of traffic can make it from Del Valle to downtown in 10 mins. We also have a Tesla super charger out here at our gas station so I don't need to have one at home when I barrow my moms car. The bus system is vast in this town. You don't need a car. It will take you forever to get anywhere. Took me 2h to get downtown and when I drive its 10 mins.......

I lived in Austin for 11 years and moved out about 40 years ago. I used to really love Austin. I left when I found some affordable land on which to build an organic farm. Now, I can hardly stand to drive into the city whenever I have to. Austin used to have so many cool things to get involved in and it used to be an affordable place to live. That's no longer the case. I was a member of a Food Co-op, I lived in a 3 bedroom house in South Austin that cost me all of $85.00 a month. Barton Springs cost about 10 cents, there were air conditioned dollar movies around town, the Fog Foundation was always pulling off outrageous entertainment on "The Drag," the University of Texas (from which I graduated) had lots of free programs to take advantage of, the Lakes were available for recreation...etc., etc. The list just goes on. All of that is a thing of the past or the hassle of finding transportation and parking and struggling with the crows just became too much for me.

It’s amazing if you’re rich. It became untenable for me way before the pandemic and now I live in Lago Vista which isn’t cheap now either because of people fleeing, but much more doable than Austin. A lot of old Austin is gone since I moved there back in 1983. It was great for many years and it hurt to see it destroyed, but it’s over now and I haven’t looked back.

Overcrowded, overpriced, limited housing inventory, way too far of commute from available overpriced outlying suburbs that have crappy, overcrowded, insufficient highways that are always stopped up with traffic. This city will be great someday, but they have to build up infrastructure to accommodate for the population growth.

I wouldn't count on CapMetro to get anything done regarding transportation. I worked there for 25 years and they've been talking about trains since the late 90s and they've gotten nowhere. The organization is poorly run and the higher ups squander money like it's their job.

Austin is nothing special. I've been here 3 years and I've tried my best to make it work for me. It's hard for me to be connected here. I'm still here because I bought a house in late 2021. Just waiting for the day when I can rent it out. I need a city with a little more flavor, better weather and a better airport (there are very few direct flights to anywhere).

I'm a single 30 year old so I don't fit in those spectrums. 300+ days of sunshine is great but this heat hits different. I remember in dec 2022 we were getting 90 degree temps. I appreciate that Austin is safe relatively, it's just not working socially

No, the numbers DO NOT ADD UP. Prices still need to drop quite a bit. Sellers are still in denial. The time will come. Be patient. And no, I still would not buy right now. This is going to end badly for a bunch of uninformed people and people that were greedy etc. It's a sick situation. Another 40% down to go before a bottom. People are starting to understand, better sell now and rent for a few years and THEN we'll buy back in at a major discount. This market has a long way down to go. People's salaries did not stay even close to the increases in housing. It''s out of whack and extremely distorted. Don't be fooled.

The low interest rate keeping people here is more of an argument if they’re staying local. But if they can get way more house in another city/state, they may not be quite as interest rate sensitive.

I moved about 1 1/2 hours outta Austin after really loving the city for 20 years. My rent went up 75% over a few years, the crime has been rising, the culture has started to rot, and the traffic/parking make going anywhere stressful. I'm enjoying small-town Texas now, where you know your neighbors, and folk are generally polite.

Why are human rights political? Not wanting to misscarry in a bathroom in pain because the hospital won't admit you shouldn't be political. Wanting access to healthcare shouldn't be political. Its the reason we are leaving. Its not safe here, letting woman and children suffer because they can't get healthcare is a safety issue.

Left 10 years ago to the country. Hate traveling through what was once a beautiful town. The best decision was to get the hell out and happier for it. Last time I stopped in, I saw more graffiti where it was not present before. Those that are running that town don't know how to run it. Tolerating criminals and top dollar to live there, I say forget it. I love the country and the people. Goodbye Austin.

The silver lining is that the rents are INSANELY cheap there in proportion to purchasing price. You can rent $750000 condos for $2500 a month downtown. Buying that would be like $7000 a month. Thats alot of disposable cash to invest elswhere and make More than 7%

Austin always had the culture in live music. It used to be very big here. Until the out of towner start flooding the city and complaining about the Music venue were to loud so they shut it down. Black culture left due to they were forces out or brought out their homes for new building construction and etc. Old Waterloo has great history to what is left to it. You have to found a real Austinites for truth information and good luck with that it’s like looking for a needle through a hay sack. This folks that is online can only give you what they see in what ever year they arrive but not the ones that lived Austin and breath Austin stories that will make you cry.

Even increasing cost of living, rising property taxes, housing costs, inadequate infrastructure as compared to other comparably sized cities, traffic congestion (related to infrastructure)... As long as Austin keeps growing, all of those things and more will continue to get worse. It's worth noting that the city has been keeping growth statistics for well over a century; they reveal a growth rate of 2 to 3% per year, with only very short intervals during which minimal growth occurred... So it should have been painfully obvious to anyone that growth would likely continue, and yet no efforts were made to adequately inform the voters or to prioritize infrastructure so that it could keep up with growth. When you have a population that's growing at 2 or 3% and infrastructure that's growing at 1% or less, it's a formula for disaster, for both economic and quality of life issues. In addition, the longer infrastructure expansion was delayed, the more expensive it got! Other factors to be considered in long term planning involve essential resources like potable water, with that particular one being likely reach critical levels within this generation. Ultimately, the wide range of problems we are seeing, things that make cities less attractive for example, it's related to a phenomenon that biologists and Biophysical Economists refer to as Overshoot... but that's a deep rabbit hole; more important than anything, but better to seek information on that topic from other videos.
