@@realestate_atx Moved to Conroe, TX. I work as an Engineer and work from home, so I could live anywhere I wanted. I have traveled throughout Texas my whole life and the Lake Conroe area always called me.
The advantages to living here are:
Live next to the Lake so it attracts wildlife (hawks, deer, snakes, armadillos, foxes, etc.) and is heavily wooded.
      Very quiet.
      Low crime.
      Homelessness is not prevalent here.
Large international airport in Houston (I can easily jump on a plane and land almost anywhere in the world).
Cheap home prices (compared to Austin).
Area is self sufficient, so no traveling to Houston for anything (other than the airport), so I often forget I live in the Houston area. I rarely travel south of The Woodlands.
Away from Cedar trees, so I don't get allergies as bad as I did in Austin.
Area is very hilly (like in Austin) so flooding isn't a problem as it is in Houston.
It rains enough where I don't need to water my lawn very often.
      The bad things:
Tyrannical HOA (this is common in this area).
High taxes (despite the homes being cheaper, MUD taxes are outrageous and taxes are often more than in Austin).
Bugs are very prevalent (termites are a big problem here).
