Touring a Used "Luxury" Class B from Midwest Automotive: 2022 Promaster Legend FSL
Is the secret to getting a good, working RV that you have to buy it used? It's no secret we have been having problems with our Tiffin Wayfarer that we purchased brand new. Many have said we could have bought used and had all the kinks worked out prior to purchase. Let's take a look at the condition of a typical used RV and see if it's something we would want.
We visited the semi-annual La Mesa RV Show in West Palm Beach, Florida and immediately spotted this really nice Promaster Van which we thought was new. It turns out, it was two years old, but in very good shape.
In this video, we look at a preowned 2022 Midwest Automotive Promaster Legend FSL Class B van. We are specifically looking to see if it is close enough to new condition that we would be willing to purchase this rather than a new model year.
Many believe that with their small size and limited floor plans, Class B Vans don't seem to be worth their exorbitant price tags. However, used Promaster vans tend to be much more competitively priced while retaining all the features that those living the van life crave. These units may be perfect for those who are looking for a Class B Van, but are fed up with their ridiculous pricing.
Class B recreational vehicles have somewhat comfortable floor plans, and offer surprisingly larger living spaces than you might think. Because these vans are all shorter than 24 feet, you can live the "Van Life" camping deep in the wilderness while also being able to stay in hotels from time to time. As always, we make some comparisons to our previous RV, a 2021 American Coach Patriot MD2, and give some constructive criticism as well.
We hope our videos will provide helpful guidance to those who are looking to purchase a Class B or small Class RV, or who may be trying to decide which RV to purchase for their travels.

      I guess this is why many buy the van and build it out. These RVs have plenty of useless amenities that simply don’t need to be in an RV, like cable hookups and TVs, additional seating…showers…etc.

      Since we recorded this before the two recent hurricanes went through, we can say pretty confidently that this unit wasn't damaged by those. It is a good idea to have an RV inspection, which should pretty easily find water damage of that magnitude. On a side note, most of the flooding Florida is seeing in the Orlando and Deland/Daytona areas since Hurricane Milton is fresh water from the rainfall. Honestly, any flooding is bad.

    As usual, great video guys. We have a 2024 Wayfarer RW (no slides). We had the exact same issue as you with the lights over the cab. They were all installed too tight and every single one of them had hairline cracks. We had literally a few drops in the cab and the Techs at LazyDays Tampa were smart enough to figure it out. Side question we bought a Jeep to pull (you were a big part of that) can you tell us your toad set up. We are researching it on the net, but there are so many options and I’d love to know what you guys bought and your experience with all of it. Thanks for the informative videos guys.

      @@halffasttravelers2702 the advantage of the kb is you can use without using the slide at all, which is useful in cities or short stops where you don’t want to install stabilizer. Secondly, thé passthrough storage allow putting a bigger electrical system, either a powerstation like bluetti ac200L and extra batteries, dc-dc alternator module or d40 house battery 48v -12v charger, or a full victron system. It is good also for table, chairs, any long item. It is more lightweight so you have more cargo capacity which is useful on such transit chassis limited to 11000 lbs. Occc is 1577 lbs and with generator removal it is another 121 lbs that is increasing the occc. It is also capable to host a Cinderella incinerator toilet by adding a second 40 lbs propane tank at the place of the generator. With that you can remove the black tank. This is an extreme customization but it is faisable and it would save ton of water, and avoid dump station to empty the black tank. This are idea of usage of a 24kb.

      @halffasttravelers2702 3 дні тому

      Wow, thanks for posting this great information on some of the customization that can be done to enhance the effectiveness of these RV systems. We have considered some type of compost toilet in the past, but we never got around to making the swap. We rarely use the generator, so removal is a great option to increase OCCC. We appreciate your input.

      @CC-gt3ro 3 дні тому

      @@halffasttravelers2702 if you search a company capable to upgrade the electrical systems, just look at mytsolar, they have the experience in the thor compass 23TW already. The 24kb with the passthrough is even more simpler. They can install a full victron systems (16500$ with installation) -3 x 330ah = 990ah victron batteries -3000 plus 12v victron inverter -all victron lynx distributor, cerbo gx and monitor 7 inch - soft start a/c -4 x 250 ony rich solar panel with wiring. -dc-dc alternator charger orion. With that you can run everything in the coach My Bluetti solution is far less expensive but still capable. The difference is powerstation does not have self heating batteries so you cannot charge under 5C commonly. Victron system is capable to heat the battery before starting the charging. Discharging is less an issue. An incinerator toilet works with propane and a very few watts electricity ( for the basic running, button) it uses 130g to 180g of propane per incineration and you have a 40 lbs bottle that could be put at the place of the generator i think (need to be verified but highly probable as the generator is big. It uses special paper cheap (10$ for 500) to put in the toilet. The incineration start after each usage but can be stops in the middle by another person and will restart afterwards. The result is ash totally safe that can even be use for a tree root. The boil is easily washable. There is a connection for the propane bottle and an exhaust ti be installed up to the roof. The result odor is very mild like the odor of a candle. So it is not detectable by neighbors. The advantage is the economy on the water freah water. The system does not use at all water which can be used solely for dishes, showers. The coach also does not need black tank.

      Yeah, Tampa got extremely lucky during Milton, and they didn't get the storm surge they were fearing. There was some localized flooding, but it was mostly from the massive amount of rainfall the area received. As far as buying used, we would definitely consider it moving forward.

    I don't care much for the first van , second and third ..not liking them either , I don't want to sleep in a $100,000 tent, I want a non Murphy dedicated bed . The twin bed van was the best of the four but its not for me , when u can't put the driver's seat back as far as it can go and you can't stretch out your legs its not for me, and he said reasonably priced, I thought nope they are way over priced. Just my opinion, Winnebago needs to work on a few things, well really a hell of a lot of things..

We have gone to Red Bay with this unit 5 times for warranty work. HOWEVER we love Miss Corona. You are lucky La Mesa is doing you a solid. We didn’t trust our dealer as they didn’t fix the Swintek slide before delivery! We have had great service at Red Bay but not everyone can get there easily. Heck, it’s a haul from WV. You should be mad! They have had your RV for over a month and they haven’t done squat!!!! Your rig will never be the same! Water intrusion, as you say, is not GOOD! The first year of owning our MH, we spent close to three months (on 3 different trips) in Red Bay - but we were wanting it perfect! Tiffin will fix everything for you, but you have to be patient! So sorry for this! Getting Tiffin to give you a new RV or going to a different manufacturer doesn’t mean your new one will not have any problems. If at all possible, take it to Red Bay. That is a fair assessment based upon the videos that we have seen online. However, please keep in mind that there are many RV acquisitions that do not result in these disastrous outcomes. One of our previous commenters referred to an RV purchase as a "roll of the dice" that you will get a good one. This is true of any large purchase. Purchasers need to conduct a risk vs. reward assessment prior to making such a large investment. Thanks for your comment.

Top 2 are Tiffin and Fleetwood/Holiday Rambler/Renegade twins. I was a bit surprised when you bought the Tiffin after your review of the Fleetwood at the Orlando show. @@larrygray1557 , you can always swap the sofa. There is a great Amish store in Shipshewana that makes very comfortable quality recliners for RVs. We had the couch swapped out in our last RV, a Class C Winnebago View.

    • @larrygray1557
      @larrygray1557 7 днів тому

      @@karinwest919 True, and thanks...but should have specified not the freestanding sofa/recliner but the sofa position of a murphy bed unit. That would require a re-design and re-upholstery. If your View is the 24D will know what talking about with the rigid foam and aggressive, more upright, back angle impacting comfort. While that can be corrected, what ruled out the View (and Entegra/Jayco) was shrinking the bathroom width as they reduced Tiffin's 36" wide shower to 32" which also sets the bathroom wall width, causing knees to hit the wall when sitting on the toilet. Thor and the new Grand Design have adopted the Mercedes 4500 chassis which is a non-starter. Glad to hear that LaMesa has it indoors during the storm or it may have had the ultimate water leakage test. Six hours since you posted the video and a lot has changed on the weather projection, and suspect your home may now be included in the outer edges of the cone rather than just outside it, and Port St Lucie is well within. I am in Orlando and for the past day it has been a beeline for Tampa/Orlando exiting south of New Smynra with later updates dropping to Cape. However, the 6:00 update had a significant drop south (Sarasota), and as I type this at 9:00 a smaller but continuing drop south where now appears entering Venice/Cape Coral and exiting Melbourne/Vero Beach.
