Great video, but is that the normal tactics to shoot water through a hole in the roof? I thought if it’s an attic fire you first go in and pull ceiling then put the fire out. Because by the looks of it that made it worse.

Genuine question. I understand that with larger departments the fire ground roles are a lot stricter than what my small county department abides by, but why is there not a line on that yet? I get not entering, but couldn't that fire have been knocked down a little bit defensively? There's a lot of great critical analysis on the size up, but at some point, shouldn't you just go? To me it seems like figuring out how much hose is needed is initially trivial. There's active fire rolling over the roof, as long as we are the only company on scene, and no one is suspected to be trapped, put some damn wet stuff on the hot stuff. We can worry about line footage when there's enough people there to establish roles. I'm not saying by any means that my department would do better, because we have plenty of areas that need work. But while that company is doing a 3 minute size up, we would've had water on that roof for a minute at least already. for us, a scene size up of "engine 1 on scene, confirmed structure fire. The bulk of the garage on the a-c side of the structure has flames rolling 20 feet through the roof along with thick black smoke. Keep everyone en route. stand by for further." would be perfect. Then boom drop a line and put water on that thing.

You may be interested in the following report. Yesterday Boston Fire Department transmitted a box and within 2 1/2 minutes of that transmission the first engine company had arrived and had water on the fire. They typically use a 2 1/2” line on heavy fires and with easy frontal access to the fire, A, AB or AD sides, deck guns are typically used. I know, I was a photographer for them. Boston fire was established in 1678 and is responsible for setting many of the firefighting standards still used today. They were also the inventors of the electronic firebox system, which is still used in Boston and many cities throughout the US. Be safe all you Jakes.

This is more about how they BUild The house then How U fight it. It was more then Likely game over On arrival with The construction codes and materials Used today on these type 4 structures.. .. If youe ever walked thru a new development going up and the labor is all you need to Know. Yet people end up paying 3 4 5 800000 dollars on a shit hole That will probably have mold In it even if it doesnt catch fire behind the wall because the local code inspecter Looked past Some Minor details Like Nail Plates to protect plumbing.... And I know Ill be bitched at but I Actually Like PEX where needed. So IM not Old School. Its Just so Obvious that Homes today are not Built right. . Nor am I seeing code enforcement as a solution.. Its Just the standards that are ,issed. You pay all this money for a tinder box..

so 1 truck 90 seconds to get the wet stuff on the hot stuff not bad, by then you had a ladder truck there (waste of space) and a 2nd pumper and you can hear more coming in the back ground. looks like the house was empty why go inside? but that 1 hose stopped putting the wet stuff on to go inside! why? not shown but how long for second pumper to put the wet stuff on? why didn't the crew of the first pumper run a second line? nice try to cover up how you exacerbated the situation by going inside taking ceiling down creating a wind tunnel effect through the door, feeding the fire with more oxygen from below. no consideration was given for the amount of wind conditions. the Dutch volunteer fire fighter could show a thing or to.

  • @copethehagen

Correct me if I am wrong. This appeared to be a garage fire that burnt through the firewall then got into the attic and caused an attic fire? Then the fire started to fall through the ceiling and got the rest of the building involved?

These guys need a lot of training, first off, there should be two hose lines in there, one on fog, the other straight stream, fog stops flash over, straight hits the fire head on.

7 min into video before water is on the fire coming out of the garage? Wind or not, ordinary construction building (light weight) cannot handle that kind of fire for long. They go up like kindling, every second more and more material is reaching their ignition temperatures. One of the captions said 15 mins to get hose lines on the fire. Not much will be able to be saved. There is lots going on at fires for sure. I think it's the hardest job you love, I did.

Another comment at 3:17: it is not necessary to make a big whole with the chain saw. Just make a small triangle opening at shoulder level for nozzle access. Move it around and around on semi fog. Then open up the door for mop up and overhaul. Less water water less oxygen for the fire and less exposure.

  • @lizardfirefighter110

Upon arrival I think it is odd to have so much flame from the garage- thinking maybe there is a wind. At 2:47 I am convinced there is danger because an 1, 3/4 line hardly make a dent - something brine is feeding the fire - beyond what would be expected from a standard garage fire. Ok let’s see pressing play.

Where the HELL does he think he is going and what is he accomplishing? They could have hit this from the street and yet they AND their officers think this is a great idea. Walking inside the fire to fight the fire. Do their families know what they do?
