    LG comparo was a great feature. As a fan of the smaller Gibsons, I couldn't help but wonder how the 40s LG2 would sound alongside the L-00 that was also hanging on the wall. I'd take either one.

    You are right on the logo. The modern logo started in ‘48. I have a script logo ‘47 J-50 (identical model and year to the one Bob Dylan used on his first couple of records). One year only because they had the “Only a Gibson is Good Enough” banner until 1946.

    Great lesson dude! Im wondering on an acoustic, most times the upper frets are unaccesible. Are they just asthetic? Can they just be lowered and polished a bit to get them out of the way?

    Beautiful guitars. I’d have bcc hard time selling your light sunburst model over one of those new fangled Telecoustics. Those cardboard cases are awesome, too. I didn’t realize the higher end old acoustics originally came with that style of case. I still own my first guitar, a 77 Takamine F360 (D28 lawsuit era clone). It’s in amazing shape; plays and sounds on par with my real D-18. It came in a black cardboard case with the alligator print. I still have it as well. When I was younger I got a nice thick hug bag and considered throwing away the original case. I’m glad I didn’t.

      @@harpethguitar I’m telling you Scottie those old lawsuit era Taks are still amazing. About 20 years ago, I also bought a 1978 340, D-18 copy. Got it with its original hard case for $200 at a pawn show. It’s really great sounding and feels just like my real D-17. Also, people can say what they want about “plywood” top, back and sides, but they don’t crack. And those Japanese luthiers knew what they were doing. Really great quality instruments.

She also has my dads old Martin New Yorker he traded my late uncle for a paint job on his truck in the 1970's. I need to call aunt Marilyn lol.

    Watching the struggle that was separating the fretboard extension from the top, it occurred to me that if you used the longest of the palette knives from StewMac, and attached the heat blanket to it, you could let the knife conduct the heat and gently slip the end of it under the fretboard extension. That would put your heat where you want it and be easily monitored while you are working.

    I love that guitar, single coils in an SG, never thought I'd see that. I have a question about how to go about fixing a crack in a Peavey JF-1, theres this crack in the cutaway that leads upwards a bit and caused the clearcoat to crack around the heel, i can barely get my nail into the clear coat near where the crack started some I'm not too worried about the heel, but how would I go about glueing the crack, its kind of hard to tell which direction it goes and how to clamp it, have you dealt with this before? I'm a player who likes to tinker and wouldn't mind slightly damaging the guitar since it isn't worth much anyways and cannot afford a luthier. I appreciate it in advance.

      Watch my playlist on lacquer finish repairs and polyester finish repairs and see if you can determine what type of finish peavey used. That would be a good start. Thank You 🙏

    Herb; Joe Pass’ sidekick. They did amazing duo work. Those strap buttons on the neck heel give me the willies. I wonder why people do that?

    • @rubiera58
      @rubiera58 16 годин тому

      Hi - Not sure I'd describe Ellis as just a "sidekick" since his recording career pre-dates Pass by quite a bit and arguably much more distinguished . While he was certainly not as "virtuosic" as Pass, Ellis is on so many Norman Granz Clef/Verve sessions with Ben Webster, Roy Eldridge, Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Ella and Louis, with Oscar Peterson years before Pass. Also, not sure about your strap button concerns -- is it because of installing the button or its placement? If the latter, it's safer than making a hole in the heel itself where the wood can split or in the acoustic body, and the angle works quite well.

    • @vayabroder729
      @vayabroder729 16 годин тому

      @@rubiera58 Yes I agree they’re both equally distinguished and sidekicks to each other. My concerns with the hole there is the placement. Seems like a sure fire way to split it.

    I bought a new black ES 165 back in the early 90s and it had a typical Rosewood saddle and not the adjustable metal one like this one has. Not sure the one on this guitar is original. Could be I guess on the Herb Ellis signature.

    it's out of stock. Good. I can't afford it, anyhow. _ "Kiyosaki also notes that saying “I can’t afford it” creates negative feelings like sadness and helplessness. When you change that into a question, however, it creates possibility and that allows positive feelings like excitement. Everything that you want is now a call to action, not an unattainable goal. Essentially, it’s the basis for a total shift in thought. Stop thinking of your current financial state as permanent, and start thinking of ways you can alter your current methods and afford the things you’re after." _ It doesn't work: "possibilities"... right.
