Coin Peak Squamish BC
Переглядів 2164 години тому
Located between Pokosha and Coin Creeks at the headwaters of Ashlu River, Coin Peak is rarely visited thanks to its neighboring higher peak - Mt Jimmy Jimmy. We started hiking at 8ish am on Sunday and to our surprise snow started at very low elevation; and we had to put on our snowshoes at 730 meters elevation. Once we got into the forest with steep slopes, we removed our snowshoes and boot-pac...
Burnt Knoll EC Manning Provincial Park
Переглядів 231День тому
Located in EC Manning Provincial Park, Burnt Knoll is a great objective for this shoulder season. The parking area is plowed but gated. We had to park outside the gate on Highway 3, and started hiking at 9am. The Fat Dog trail is broken and we followed it for 6.6 kilometers before turning left into the forest with deep powdery snow. Soon we reached the last steep part, which was not easy to bre...
Face Mountain

Located in Semaphore Lakes Pemberton Valley area, Face Mountain is a great place with great views of glaciers and mountains. Compared to many years ago when I did Lacomotive Mountain in snow conditions with friends in Semaphore Lakes, it looks more beautiful in fall. On Saturday we followed the muddy trail to Semaphore Lakes, where we headed directly to the waterfall. We crossed the creeks easi...
Boulder Creek Forest Service Road

Located in Duffey Lake area, Boulder Creek FSR used to be an easy access to some amazing mountains. In the past 10 years, this “road” has changed greatly from good to bad. I was checking this road around 2 months ago, but fell into the creek and badly injured my leg. It was supposed to be a sunny day in Duffey Lake area on Saturday, and my friend and I would like to check to see how this unknow...
MacLeod Peak
Переглядів 1892 місяці тому
Located on Highway 3, east of Hope, MacLeod Peak is an interesting objective, which offers quite some scrambling fun as well as beautiful views. And it is unlikely you will run into other people in that area. I drove my jeep wrangler up 11 Mile FSR till 1320 meters elevation, right next to a big overgrown cutblock. The FSR is in an OK shape, but it does require a 4x4 with a high clearance. I dr...
Rocktip Peak via Brown Peak
Переглядів 1832 місяці тому
Located on the north ridge of Silvertip, Rocktip is usually a quiet and beautiful place. Years ago I went to Brown Peak true summit 2214m with my friends, and ever since then Rocktip has been on my list. This video briefly introduced our trip from the ridge, after the steep forest climbing and moderate bushwhacking, to Rocktip. I have my own GPS track to Brown Peak and a friend of mine offered ...
Shawatum Mountain

Located around 50 kilometers down Silver-Skagit Road on the boundary between Manning Provincial Park and Skagit Valley Provincial Park. Very few people have summited this somewhat hidden, yet prominent and eye-catching peak, probably due to the “horrible” bushwhacking. I injured my left leg two weeks ago in an adventure in Pemberton area. On Saturday August 31, I went to north shore mountains f...
The Old Settler
Переглядів 2564 місяці тому
The Old Settler, elevation 2132 m, is the highest mountain in the southernmost part of Lillooet Ranges of the Coastal Mountains in BC Canada, located between the Fraser Canyon E and Harrison Lake W to the northeast of the town of Agassiz. It is not extremely remote, but the access used to be difficult due to a locked gate at the beginning of the FSR. I met my friend in Coquitlam at 4am on Satur...

Ben Lomond is in a very remote area, standing immediately west of Loch Lomond Lake, and was named in association with that lake. This video briefly introduces our adventure from the alpine area to the peak. We started hiking at 50 meters elevation @ Seaview Drive Furry Creek, following a system which is connected with Furry Creek FSR. After around 11 kilometers hiking, we got to the creek, wher...
Mount Larrabee
Переглядів 3574 місяці тому
Mount Larrabee is called “the largest reddish rock in the North Cascades”, and it was once referred to as the Red Mountain. We know we will deal with lots of loose rocks and it will be a short day. To beat the heat and avoid any climbers in front of us, who might kick off rocks, I picked up my friend at his home in North Burnaby at 4:20am; and then headed to Sumas, where nobody was waiting to c...
Thornton Peak
Переглядів 2764 місяці тому
Thornton Peak is the highest point above Thornton Lakes, around 7 kilometres west of the town of Newhalem Washington. Thornton Peak is not officially named, but Thornton Lakes were named after an early pioneer of the upper Skagit River, William T. Thornton. The peak carries the name by default. There are three Thornton Lakes, all fairly large. The lower lake is the largest, spanning roughly 0.8...
Mount Urquhart
Переглядів 2345 місяців тому
Located in the East Harrison area, this peak used to be rarely ascended due to the locked gate at the bottom of the FSR for the active heli logging activities 7 days a week. Recently the logging business in this area seems to be finished and the gate is open, which allows our 4x4 suv to drive for around 20 kilometers one way to the very end of the road, after which we had to deal with the annoy...
Colchuck Peak
Переглядів 3015 місяців тому
Located in the Stuart Range, in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in Chelan County of Washington State, this is a popular outdoor destination, especially at the lake area. I left my home at 7:30pm on June 30 and met my friends at 8pm. We then crossed the border and drove to the direction of Seattle, before which we left Highway I5 and turned to the southeast onto a different road for another 2.5 hour...

Do you think the "true summit" would be do-able in the winter Tiger? Ie rappell into the notch and climb with ice tools to the true summit spire/pinnacle?

@@mountfairweather it may be safer in winter time, as compared to non snow season, it should be more reliable with two snow anchors for the rappelling. But you should wait until there is enough snow on the top.

Thank you for the writeup , I have been wondering just what the trail is like after the creek as I remember people driving up the ( what is now an obliterated roadbed ) and getting much closer to the lake. In the hood ole days before they banned anything by putting in those nasty gates at the bottom. That is quite the walk to do in one day , at 69 I would probably do an overnighter if I went.

    • @tigerlu8518
      @tigerlu8518 Місяць тому

The regular route is not technical. There are several routes to the peak. Regarding the couloir we chose, better bring your ice axe and full crampons at this time if the year. The couloir is an avalanche pathway.
