  • Both Oleg and I wanted to have a short hike before Xmas, which was why we chose McKay Peak, located in Mission area. Weather was supposed to be nice, but we started in light rain, which later turned into snowing. We followed the trail to St. Benedict to the col between McKay & St. Benedict, where we turned to left into the 2nd generation forest with moderate bushwhacking. With the help of our GPS, we got to the peak 3 hours later after leaving our truck. It was nice at the top, but unfortunately it was very cloudy. On the way back, we followed a ridge to an abandoned logging road, which made a nice loop. There were some intense bushwhacking and steep slopes; but with vege-belays we had no problem getting down safely, even without wearing our microspikes the whole trip. C2C 5 hours 50 minutes. Totally 12.72 kilometers with 1116 meters of elevation gain.
