I know that this video is 3 months old but I recently found your channel and I've been watching your other vids! The book that got me back into reading again was The Priory of the Orange Tree shortly after it was released back in 2019! It's still one of my very favorite books, it had everything I was craving in a fantasy novel and it's just so dear to me 💖 Also, I highly recommend Samantha Shannon's other series The Bone Season if you haven't tried it yet! She just released edited and updated versions of the older books and they're even better than the originals, and it'll end up being a 7 book series when she's done (she's working on the 5th rn). 💖

So I saw this video when it first came out and immediately saw the Alien recommendation. Alien is my all time favorite movie. I read The Scourge Between Stars after watching your video and I EFFING LOVED IT! I want more books with that vibe. My favorite part is that the author, Ness Brown, is an astrophysicist. Fantastic reviews! I too, am an Adam Nevill fan. "No One Gets Out Alive" really scared me. I could not put it down. Also, his book "The Vessel" is mighty creepy. I love how his main characters are usually so downtrodden and desperate. This makes them more vulnerable. I will surely try some of your other suggestions for other horror writers as well.

This Thing Between Us was so deliciously bleak. It messed me up but the more I thought about it afterward the more I respected it, especially the ending.

I know this video is kind of old at this point, but I've been watching your backlog and just read "The Haar" based on this recommendation. Devoured the whole thing in two days, just finished it and I LOVED IT. Splatterpunk is not usually my genre, but this book was so SO good. *Feelings* is right!! 😭❤️

I love that list! Carrie is an old favourite, and I recently bought Slewfoot, so that's going to the top of my TBR. My contribution to the list is Jane Doe by Victoria Helen Stone, which features a sociopath out to avenge the death of the only person she'd ever considered a friend. She's in control 1000% of the time, and it's a pleasure to watch her work. There's a sequel called Problem Child, about Jane's niece, which is also really good.

Rosemary's Baby is a great book and movie. The apartment building in the movie is in The Dakota. Lots of famous and wealthy people lived there. John Lennon and Yoko Ono lived there and John was shot and killed in the entry. Ruth Gordon is a hoot. You forgot to mention that the pain she endured was the reason for her suspicion.

HER BODY AND OTHER PARTIES: I just dwnld the book. Loved The Vegetarian and Eileen. Grey Dog is up there. 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World (Elif Shafak). I can't find ANIMAL anywhere so I'll dwnld that soon.

Richard Matheson one of my favorite authors did many Twilight Zone episodes some of the best especially William Shatner in flight at 20,000 ft with the gremlin on the wing of the plane among other classics. He also wrote Stir of Echoes also one of my favorite movies. one of the scariest Haunted House movies in black and white directed by Robert Wise is the Haunting, the original book The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson check out that movie it's a classic

I love this concept for a video, and was excited to see that we like the same kinds of horror movies--thank you for these excellent recommendations! I think I'm most excited about Grey Dog and My Heart is a Chainsaw. If you haven't read Ira Levin's Rosemary's Baby, which the film was based on, I highly recommend it. I've also read the novel that the Ring was based on but I can't recommend that, unfortunately! Thanks again and happy autumn :)

The Woman In Black (Susan Hill). It's a good film, but a better book (IMHO). The original Dracula (Bram Stoker). After more than a century of pop culture doing anything it likes to the vampire trope, it's refreshing to go back to the Victorian era classic, and re-live the horror of Stoker's original vision. The Haunting of Hill House (Shirley Jackson). Besides a great read, it's great fun to see what each film adaptation took from the novel, and the different directions the films (and TV series) went in from there. Beloved (Toni Morrison). Perhaps an unconventional ghost story, but scary on a number of levels. Yes to Blatty's The Exorcist, also very scary. Rosemary's Baby (Ira Levin). Also an iconic film, but again, I prefer the book. The Little Stranger (Sara Waters). Here, I would ignore the recent film, it didn't do the novel justice at all, softened the supernatural element so much that is seemed more psychological thriller - but the book focuses more on the supernatural. The Turn of the Screw (Henry James). Again, some good TV and film adaptations, but nothing captures the on-the-line are the ghosts real or not tension better than this novella - and IMO, never will - James is the undefeated master of keeping the book on this line the entire time and never resolving it (unlike the loose adaptation, The Others, although this is also just fantastic as a movie, if you don't know it's an adaptation). I was not personally a fan of Ghost Story (Peter Straub) though a huge number of people really like it. I'll also put in a plug here for Ring (Koji Suzuki) - the films don't do it justice, partly because of the Americanization but also partly because they concentrate on gore/carnage, and downplay the supernatural/eerie atmosphere of the book.

One of the original female rage books from back in the day is"Female Man" by Joanna Russ. It helped me understand that I was not alone. Good video🎉

“Her Body and Other Parties” sounds up my alley! If you enjoy magical realism and female rage, may I recommend “The Change” by Kirsten Miller? In midlife, a trio of women develop mysterious powers and, while investigating the murder of a teenager, embrace their roles as seeker, protector, and punisher. I loved it!

I just subscribed too! I love horror. My favorite writer is Stephen King. I've been reading his stuff since Carrie came out, so I had a couple of years of him being my secret.LOL My all time favorite SK is The Stand. I get the creeps still whenever I read "Salem's Lot or The Shining. Ghost Story by Peter Straub is excellent (There is much more to the story than what the movie shows) I really liked Harvest Home by Thomas Tryon. There's many more that I loved, but I don't have my books here, so my mind has gone blank. (of course) Thanks for the recommended, I will get at it.

If you feel like delving into the small press, there's All Men Are Trash and Mother Puncher by Gina Ranalli. Both highly entertaining and positively rage fueled.
