What?! Skall & Shad are the two biggest sword tubers? Skall is Ok I guess. Shad doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground, and less about how to actually use a sword. Matt Easton would wipe the floor with either. Either one of the Thomas brothers would make Skall and Shad teamed up look like total noobs. Rawlings (London Longsword Academy) could beat them while sleeping. It is a shame that these guys aren't bigger on UA-cam I do think Skall at least has a HEMA rating.
Having fought Shad once myself I think this is a fair assessment. His footwork is a bit static, and he really likes his high strikes. He's not creative in combat at all he's very mechanical. If you have a decent amount of experience and good movement, you're very likely to take the win on Shad. (though I'll admit this was many years ago, I think being a mechanically minded fighter is very hard to unlearn, and he never expressed an interest in learning to adapt).
@@StoneweaverEnt when and where did this take place?
Also Bohur/ACS don t do thrusts lol
Fencing mask btw lol
Does anyone take Mormon David Brent "Shadiversity" seriously?
That hema creator clash could be really good for the sport, but i don't think having two beginners as the title card would be a very good showing for it. Perhaps having them face of earlier in the event, and then following it up with the title fight being Sellswordarts v Robinswords (I would suggest Matt Easton for the title fight, but seeing as he's a bit more accomplished than most comparably sized youtubers in the space, it might not get the biggest draw, or may be a bit unbalanced)
Wow, this was very diplomatic lol. Instead of saying Shat is overly confident and incompetent, he just says the match would probably wind up in too many double because Skall would be anticipating intelligent actions from his opponents 😂
I understand the audacity score you gave Shat, but I think a better word for him would be "arrogance"
Considering Shat's footwork reminds me of an overweight preteen struggling to survive in a game of dodgeball, I think this match up is a no-brainer 😂
Fairly confident that Shat's hit rate is so high because more often than not he's basically just playing whack-fuck with people that are either less experienced or entirely inexperienced. Same goes for his high initiative rating
Great Video. Skall would crush him. Skall is much more serious, disciplined, and experienced relative to Shad who has none of those things.
I feel like the fundamental question is "what is the most over all nimble sword of a reasonable length" of course a 1 handed sword is faster in one hand than a two handed sword. but i think it comes down to which is more agile; two handed swords ie various longswords vs various one handed swords. intuition would say the leverage of two hands would make for something more nimble, however the different wheeling motions and potentially greater hand protection using one hand might cancel this out. I'm curious what tends to edge out in the highest levels of hema-excluding the gross reach advantage of rapiers, longswords? sabers? sideswords?
I feel like reverse grip as a dedicated style is pretty limiting, but grip switching is definitely a way to be tricksy with mixups grip switching is a weird thing in modern fencing because if youre fencing at full speed you really want to be wearing full hand protection. And if you have full hand protection grip switching will be much more awkward. Historically many people would be fighting with fairly minimal hand peotection and relying on their skill to protect their hands and not die.
7:07 Shad’s use of his front foot looks a bit like an apel from foil fencing, used as a feint or to distract the opponent typically before lunging.
No to be rude when asking this, but Would you say these gentleman are in or have hit their prime in terms of swordsmanship I mean, a swordsmans prime is likely alot more late than boxers and wrestlers due to the fact that we deal with less injuries in hema. But also swordsmanship is more reliant on skill and practice than strength or speed meaning that theoretically, you could grow as a swordsman even in older age
@chainsawchanselour5452 no. They could both get much better. Modern Sword fighting is typically a one touch endeavor. Having sharp reflexes is more important IMO
@Apperceptive_Swordsman makes a lot of sense. Thank you very much Ive wondered about this for a while
Learned quickly that sport foil tricks and evades don't work against longsword von tag
"Sensei, how do I learn to stop flinching?" "I will hit you in the head until you stop flinching" Beauty in simplicity
NOT THE SELLSWORD ARTS CRINGE COMPILATION 😭😭😭
Who would win, Shad vs anyone else. Answer: anyone else xD. Then shad would make a 3 hour video about how his opponent was wrong and he really would have won had the opponent used proper techniques.
I'm trying to open a gumdo school in my area, and I actually reached out to a HEMA school to see if they'd be interested in bringing me on (or allowing me to use their floor space) to teach Gumdo during an open time slot. LOL, they didn't go for it, and understandably. It's hard to say you're a HEMA school if you've got a dude teaching Korean sword there. That, and I'm a new teacher, so I can understand my credibility may have been called into question during their deliberations.
@itamiyouji4057 it's valuable to learn the perspective or training methods of other disciplines, I think.
@Apperceptive_Swordsman I agree.
Are we talking aids thin Skal or THICCC skal?
Shad is as good a fencer as he is at AI Art
Shat for the win?
shat lmao
Robinswords would destroy them both 😂
. I really like Death Battle because it is simplistic and just numbers. I also Love Deadliest Warrior because it really introduced me to looking deeper into other cultures. I will agree it is a bad show, but without it I might not have ever looked into the Ming dynasty... among others. Also, if you guys did have a tournament it would be fun and amazing. Though it would need to be more like a tournament with Some famous UA-camrs... so, noobs, practitioner experts and everyone in-between.
. So as an analysis video this was very insightful and fun. As a fan of both I enjoy watching their videos and collaborations. I thought you did an Excellent job at remaining impartial and simply pointed out your observations. Glad I stumbled across this and hope this is another channel that will join the UA-cam Sword Community.
Depends, they’ve both fought very different people. Smalls fought some actually very well trained masters, not so sure about Shad
I think shad might have a more encyclopedic base of knowledge, but skallagrim seems like he could actually win a fight.
2:17 the moulinets
This is great! This is very funny! These guys are not athletes at all, they are probably well-versed in theory, but the way they move, the way they take positions, the way they move and hit... I would love to see a fight like that
What is this crap?
Shadiversity spends more time thinking about Homo than Hema
Skallagrim sleeps with a troglodyte.
Fatty and hurt Skall vs fatty and stamina depleted Shad. Hard take.
They can fight ?they kind of , missed out of training for a long time.
Feel like Alber, or the Fool, is the German equivalent for Boar's Tooth.
@macavitythemysterycat Nah Alber is the equivalent of Fiore's Middle Iron Gate
Skall feels he has more skills id why
Skall. Skall would easily win.
Yes Skal but mainly because Shad would gas faster as he's got chronic fatigue syndrome. Still funny video 😄
If only Shad defended himself with his sword as hard as he defends himself online 😂
"Facing the most experienced larper" LOL. Maybe shad should just train in swordsmanship instead of larping as a swordsmen and causing drama..
Interesting... interesting. With this video, coupled with the rare, but existing cases of people making spinning attacks work for them in sparring or HEMA, I'm starting to wonder what would happen if you took the "Hollywood swordfighting" tropes: "(Reverse grip, spinning attacks ect.) took what has been shown to work for them in real life, and tried to build an actual functioning fighting style out of it. What would this Reconstruction look like? What would its uses be?
Sword fighting is a game of lies. Anything to deceive your opponent is useful
Skallagrim, because Shad would be winded due to his condition
Whaat? Respectfully pointing out weaknesses of your peers and teaching how to train those? I can't watch this, where's the blood sports? /s
the music in this video was great
This might be random but would you be able to make a pinch grip work. Being able to swivel into the attack as an alternative opening. Just some thoughts
Hmm didn't think of it. I can try it sometime
That is a like.
