Are you still using an Ana Vance planner this year?!
That’s amazing!! If only the polish could go on so quick and easy too haha
Right?!
Are the charter schools secular? I have no knowledge of charter schools, they sound interesting.
Could you link the simply charlotte mason math? Sounds interesting
Here you go: simplycharlottemason.com/store/your-business-math/
Do you feel like your kids frequently re-visit their notebook journals (e.g. @5:13) or are they more like rarely or one and done?
Mine do every once in a while because they like to see the difference in their writing and illustrations!
Thanks for sharing your curriculum choices! What online live writing course your daughter took through IEW?
@@Keeplifesimple0000 It is through the IEW website!
I wonder how this approaches other faiths. I'm having a hard time finding history, both religious and secular, that don't have a certain bias. It's a huge turn-off. I fully expect to have to dig on my own for objective history but it's incredibly disappointing to do months and months of research on curricula, then purchase it, only to find the ones you chose aren't nearly as good as you thought they were. Continuing that bias, I'm noticing only specific atrocities are mentioned and those atrocities are painted in one light or another. For example, people eating people in one culture is covered and looked down on (likely because it's so widely known they did this that it pretty much can't go unmentioned) but not another (likely because it's not nearly as widely known, despite the fact that it's fairly recent history!). In the latter, it's painted as W people being meanies to the other group. No mention of *WHY.* Groups being pushed out in some sort of way is also painted as simply W/Europeans/Christians are big ol' meanies instead of the *actual* reasons they wanted to push other groups out. One goes so far as to actually say, and I quote, "for no reason." Bologna sausage. You might not like the reason but there IS a reason. Often multiple. I am in no way supporting bad things in history. Not at all. I just want objective, true, FACTS. No opinions. No purposefully manipulative adjectives and adverbs. (Such as sadly, fortunately, horrific, etc) Or, at the very least, more than one side of the story. Not only that, but it irks me how shallow history curricula tend to go. I can understand why, especially in grade school levels, but come on...three very vague paragraphs on the War of 1812? Really? SIGH. Yes, we can dive deeper on our own. Yes, we DO dive deeper on our own. But that's not the point. Sigh. I'm thinking of just completely revamping history in our homeschool, skipping curricula, and just putting my own together myself because this is ridiculous. However, Generations does intrigue me. Thank you for going through this. I'll have to rewatch on a bigger screen so I can read the text better.
Great points! No perfect curriculum to please all, so I think it’s really smart of you to put together your own. Would love to hear what you find that you value!
The Draw the World series is great for map work 😊
Thank you for the suggestion!
Great choices! I have a 7th grader too. ❤
So glad we’re in this together. Excited about 7th grade!
😂😂😂Not homeschool mom jail 😂😂😂😂! We actually read the Little House series in 2018 while my kids were in a charter school (building). Then in 2020 we watched the whole tv series and we are we watching them now 😂.
Ahhh that is encouraging! I forgot about the tv series. Thanks for the get out of jail card!
oh I love that no screen from Mon-thurs
you gave me some great ideas for years to come.
It has been the most freeing thing :)
Looks like it's going to be a great year for both of you. We are starting high school and looking forward to it.
Excited for you! =)
I also have an upcoming 7th grader! These look like fabulous options. 🤩
Nice! 7th grade, here we come!
So… we haven’t touched school for two months (that's fine, welcoming a new baby is more important). Just added "How The World Runs" to my list, thanks. And don't worry about 11th grade coming fast, you can always hold her back. jk
I love this line up. And yes the guide is a lot. Keeps me on always busy planning and I’m thinking next year we might add in an online curriculum to bring a new resource/outlook of learning. As always I love your videos mama. Thank you for always blessing us with your knowledge .
Absolutely! Love being on this homeschooling high school journey with you!
Your charter seems very similar to ours. We are allowed to keep books up to $20 which is nice. The only problem is I have all these books piling up and no more shelves to put then on. 😬😃
Haha, that’s kind of a fun problem!
Second year using a Charter in CA. I was so surprised to have such freedom. Our school library is close so I do use a lot of their books/manuals and saves my funds for enrichment and lots of consumables. My daughters are entering 1st and TK and man they go thru markers 😂
That is amazing that you’re close to the school’s library! I miss your ages much!
I can relate to you on so many levels! I have an upcoming 9th and 6th grader this coming school year as well as a 3 year old, and a 19 year old who has moved out. Finding time mentally and physically for it all is just a lot! Thank you for sharing!!😊❤
Wow, I'm so glad you shared this. You have kids of ages across the board!
I feel lucky, we get to keep anything under $75 🙌🏼 we get legos and building type of things too. I’m so grateful for the charter we have! It sounds like you are too ❤
That’s a great deal! Yes, it has been pros and cons, but enough pros to keep us there!
Yes mama, totally agree and so relatable . I’m so happy you made this video . I use the guide too 🤗
I’m so glad! I hope others feel more informed so they can make the best choice for their family whether with or without a charter!
We also homeschool through a charter in CA. It’s all we’ve ever known after pulling our kids out of in person public but I’d say it’s been a great experience for my kiddos and myself over the last 4 years. Our HST is very close to us after all this time and more like our friend. 🩷 The non consumables were definitely overwhelming at first but we have very strict rules on those items in our home. 😅 We have bookshelves specifically designated to school owned books/materials and now after 4 years, I even place a label with our school name inside all of the books and things that don’t belong to us just in case I forget down the line. Fortunately for us though, when we’re finished with our items we can return them to our Lending Library van that comes to our school designated park days once a month. If I had to return with shipping, I definitely wouldn’t bother with the hassle like you. 😂 Thanks for sharing your experience working with a charter. I think it seems intimidating to other people but it can be a great experience too. 🩵
Yes, so grateful for our HST. We really hit the jackpot with her. Separate bookshelf and labels - I would do the same! :) Thanks for sharing your experience. I am glad there are others with positive experiences!
What a wonderful video Trisha! We are excited to start HS so I appreciated this review! Also honored you've listed Simple Studies in your links - naturally a favorite of ours for K-6! Blessings friend! 🥰
Absolutely! Thank you so much!
With any turn of grade levels, there is always something to tweak. I know you mentioned a few bumps in the road- You made it through!!! Yay!!! I hope you are enjoying your summer. Best wishes for the new school year. 🌻
Awww thank you so much for the encouragement! Sometimes someone coming along and saying, “You did it!” is exactly what is needed. :)
I really respect your curriculum picks and style. I'm excited to have you as a resource!
Thanks so much, Abby! Love watching your channel!
I think you’re in California and I know that you can get that W removed at our local community colleges. You have to file an appeal and explain your situation 😊
Really! Thank you for mentioning this!
I did the living generously last year. I found them at convention and the young man that created is so inspiring for his age. It was such a great curriculum. Def worth the cost.
Agree! Drew is so insanely purposefully driven. Love this curriculum!
Can you explain how you work the Taking Jesus series into your school day? Especially if you have a history already?
Sure! I will read the text with her (1/2 chapter) and she will work through the workbook independently. I don’t think you need the workbook, but we wanted to give it a try this time.
Loved this!!
I’m so glad! ❤️
How do I know what level my son should do? He would be going into 3rd grade but is on a 1st grade reading level.
For Fix It Grammar, I would suggest waiting until 4th grade or higher depending on their reading level. For IEW curriculum, here is what they suggest for levels: Primary: K-2nd Level A: 3rd-5th Level B: 6th-8th Level C: 9th-12th+ For example, my almost 10 year old (4th grade) will start Level 2A in the fall.
The note booking you’re speaking of. Is this in addition to a student “workbook”? If so, I’m thinking it would be along the lines of them adding in information that they’ve read that they found interesting/important with illustrations?
Which curriculum are you referring to? Either way, yes that is how I use notebooking too!
Love your shirt!!! So glad you had a wonderful year. But could you share which notebooks you use for notebooking, please and thank you?
@@fab5bailey369Just linked the tee in the description! “JUICEBOX” for 10% off. I use the Ruth Journals from Anna Vance Paper Co for notebooking. There are also some simple ones on Amazon. Here is a blog post: juiceboxhomeschool.com/?s=Notebooking
Me too!

What great plans. What online asl do y’all use?
My high schooler is dual enrolled at a college for ASL (online), but we will trial Homeschool ASL for my middle schooler next year!
I dont see this layout!
I believe it is called Vertical Priorities!
This is awesome, Trisha! Thank you for sharing.
Absolutely! I love supporting smaller businesses!
Love Christian Bookstore. They are my go to. They currently have 25off $125 for the month of July
I love that! I feel like bigger retailers have become the go to, but we have to support the smaller shops.
This is soo sweet!!
Thanks so much!
New Morning Mercies is excellent!
Ooh thank you for sharing that - I’m looking forward to giving it a try this year!
What language arts curriculum do you recommend for kindergarten?
I have really been enjoying Learning Language Arts Through Literature, but we have loved IEW Primary Art of Language in kinder/1st. Hands on and game based. I have a blog post on this!
I love the idea of you continuing the tradition every 10 years. They get a new Bible at 10, 20, etc.
:) Thanks!
I love the small lettering ❤ i want to write in my planner like this. Which planner is this?
Thank you! This is the Simple Homeschool Planner from Anna Vance Pqper Co.
Welcome to Houston. ❤ You’ll have to take another trip here! There’s sooo much more to explore. This will be my first year homeschooling, so thanks for sharing some of your field trip ideas! Great video!
Yes, I would love to! I’m excited for your journey!
Such a fun trip!!!
Yes! Onto the next one!
One question one comment: 1. How was the heat? 2. Dang, I really want to go to the space center.
Not too bad in May! Humidity for sure though.
I'd love to use A Reason For Handwriting.
It is really nice!
Love this!
What are your thoughts on using the taking____country Bks in upper grades? Do you think they are too grade specific?
So far, I have only used Taking Asia (Level 4), and I think it would be appropriate for grades 4-7, but it really depends on the child. I have seen samples of the writing of the Level 1 book, and you can tell the difference from that to the Level 4 book.
@@juiceboxhomeschool ok. This is helpful! I'm finding it hard to find things to do "as a family" bc I have a 5yr gap btwn my first two kids and last two kids. 🤪 I don't want to get anything to young for the oldest. . .
Would you say this is a living book?
My daughter Loves the Cajun Kids series!!!!! I hope y'all enjoy them. They are such a precious couple.
Is it Christian based or secular please?
I was there and I thought that was you at the apologia booth. Lol
