I'm a search and rescue pilot with a sheriff's department in southern California. My desire is to highlight the difficult hoist rescue work we do to bring education and exposure to our operation that many in the public sector do not get to see. The rescue work we do is paid for in our budget and no one is charged.
Hoist rescue of hiker missing for two days.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office received a call where a male hiker stated he was lost on a mountain side near Corona, California, and due to the terrain, was afraid to move any farther. Inclement weather prevented search from the air the first day, so members of the Riverside Mountain rescue unit began a ground search. The second day the weather was not flyable until approximately 11 AM at that same time two members from the ground search team located the male hiker, and he was subsequently hoisted out to paramedics and treated at a hospital.

Here this 76year-old man had an unfortunate fall from a 10 to 15 foot ledge. He broke several ribs on the landing, and thankfully the air crew was able to locate him through his handheld GPS device. An emergency medical technician/rescue specialist was hoiste...

Why didn’t his climbing partners save him?
On devrait leur faire payer les frais de leur sauvetage à ces abrutis
What a badass crew! I like all the communication and gear checks 👍
Great catches! IT's an MH-60S Knighthawk however not a Blackhawk. Loving your channel!

Question, what happened to grounding the cable for static electricity? In the Army we always had to wait for the cable to hit ground before grabbing the hook
@@WorldsOkayestBusDriver hi good question. In this case, there was no expectation of static electricity due to the wet ground and dense brush. We use a grounding cable in dry, high ground particulate, like dust, sand, or snow.
Genuine question: How is this financed? The rescued person gets a bill in the mail? Where I’m from, we have heli-rescue just like this as well and it’s all financed by taxes. I’m just curious how it works where you’re at.
Same as you, we have an annual budget and it is the same if we rescue 1 person or 200, pre-funded as a law enforcement function. Per state law in California, the Sheriff is responsible for search and rescue operations in the county.
🗣️ So freaking cool! 🧐
Fun seeing the palms from straight above looking down! But then you gotta dodge them. It's nice to walk around under them--lots of shade under the wild palms. Too bad her hike got ruined by injury. Painful and disappointing for the hiker; I've had that happen while on vacation. Not fun at all. At least I didn't need a hoist out.
Excellent teamwork again! I am glad the volunteers were recovered. I remember one video where the lone guy was told he would have to walk out and it was getting close to sunset from what I could see.
This is the best channel on UA-cam. Thank you so much for letting us see it from your point of view
Big compliment, thank you!
Nice work from the volunteers
The ole screamer suit
Not supposed to call it that anymore 😂
I was watching this from an ADS-B tracker and was hoping I’d get to see a video of it on this account. :)
Our communities are so fortunate to have such a dedicated group of professionals.
is this you alls job or do you just go out for free when you get a cal?
his bio says SAR pilot for a sheriffs department it’s probably a rare non volunteer SAR crew
Aviation is paid but RMRU is volunteer
Hi thanks. We are all full-time aircrew members in the department air unit. Our LE patrol helicopter crews are out flying pro-active patrol in support of the ground operations. On the rescue side, we typically fly 1-2 training flights in our 4 day work week but only when called out for rescues.
👍👍
нема чого лазити, хай би і злазили самі раз туди полізли
👍👍
Does insurance pay for that?? This rescuers are the heros!
That looks much worse than hiking out. Look at her spin. :(
@@samanthacallebs5871 much better than hiking out.
I love what you guys do, my favorite thing is how you acknowledge the fortitude and decision making of those rescued - the stigma often associated with being rescued puts people in more danger than necessary - thanks again!
Do you have to become a sheriff and be on patrol to be able to do your position?
Hi yes with our department one must be a deputy sheriff first. I have attached a podcast interview that explains how you can make this happen. ua-cam.com/video/r6ahMtZVHcw/v-deo.htmlsi=ARX021_hk-wMu6LE
@ I appreciate this. Thank you.
While I understand i might be late to the party or maybe this is answered elsewhere BUT what bag do you use? Been in need of a small pack to hold things long-term
Hi thank you for that. Our guys carry the Mystery Ranch RATS Pack. They love it.
Wow you're on the side of a cliff and the rescuers having to put this contraption on this guy which is taken forever, why don't you just clip into the guy's harness and go on up. I mean you can clip into the harness and put a safety chest line around them but this contraption seems like something you'd want to use on the ground but not on the side of a cliff.
🗣️ I can't speak for the rescuers on scene but I can tell you this, as a first responder you never trust anybody else's gear but your own... Never! 🧐
How much will they have to pay?
Kept her head. Called for help. Walked the final distance to the ambulance. She did good all things considered. The absolute precision and teamwork of the Hook-in-Hand crew is a thing of beauty to watch.
She was tough!
At 2:46 how come he’ll get shocked?
Static electricity due to the particulate in the air that gets kicked up from the downwash. It's moderately painful.
@ oh ok thanks
She’s so calm
She was a rock star.
The harness that the climber wore was his own, right? The rescuer seemed confident, without checking, that his harness was sturdy and secure enough to hoist him. Am I wrong? He just hooked him up and took him. I NEVER get tired of these videos and it's amazing seeing the value of their talent and that helo. I love watching that helicopter overhead here in Riverside County. I feel safer knowing they are above.
Amazing as always!!
Thank you my friend 🫡
Outstanding work. Excellent channel.
Thanks for the support!
Pain meds so she doesn't get shocky on them
Great teamwork! Edit: I love this channel
You guys make this look easy with little to no risk. Incredible work.
Thank you!

I see the text about the constant communication.. could you shed some light on what kind of communication was occurring that put the ST on-hoist but below the objective from 2:10 to 4:50?
Hi thank you for that. If I recall correctly, they were discussing bringing him up to the patients. The hoist operator had to split his attention between the rock face and the rescue specialist, so if you imagine the OODA loop in this scenario, for every 5 seconds that passed, 4 of them were assessing my position against the cliff, only one second spent every 5 on the RS position for safety. A lot going on in this call, and it is the hoist operator's call as to the tempo he sets and the method he deploys the RS. Thanks for checking it out.
Why bother blurring Faces ?
Wow well done! This was intense! They both acted calm given the situation. Helicopter ride free of charge. 🎉 When I saw the man's ankle I could imagine the pain. Five days ago we were in wintertrekking in the French Vosges (altitude 1200m) with a group of five. I slipped on a small piece of ice and injured my ligaments at ankle, leg and knee. My ankle looks similar to this man's ankle. Very thick. My friends taped it. I could barely walk in the beginning, someone else had to carry two backpacks. We were in a remote area with no signal. I already imagined myself in a helicopter when I slipped and lay on the ground.. but we were able to hike back to the public road. We went to plan B, plan C and eventually plan D.. which meant we aborted the tour and found a great hostel and still had a great time together.
These people that take these risk should be forced to pay the bill for their rescue, why should we have to pay for it.
Have always wondered if the rescued ones get billed for the rescue work done? Or is it payed by the government? What about the woman - she got simply tired or accompanied the rescued one? She was so calm as if used to the procedure. Thanks.
ua-cam.com/video/r6ahMtZVHcw/v-deo.htmlsi=K5UPLKVDu2tG35nm Excited to add this podcast to help answer questions regarding how to do this job and what is the path.
statevene a casa a guardare la TV !!!! 😂 Complimenti al soccorso...
Excellent work by all involved. That harness had me worried about the safety of the horse. Especially that back strap. Might need a slight redesign.
Thanks the rescuers
Got the job done, but That’s not the way to splint an ankle.
Great job. Better to rescue live hikers than recover dead bodies.
