It seems putting GoPro cameras on New Zealand heritage trains then forcing people to watch the videos is what I do! Enjoy!

This bogie is fitted to one of Steam Inc's Heritage 100 year old wooden clad passenger cars. Here it is doing its thing on the Wairarapa line during the 2024 Daffodil Express, departing from Caterton heading north bound. The wheels were fresh from the wheel lathe and the rail head had just seen the rail profile grinder, hence the unique sound. Gauge 3'6" or 1,067mm

Thank you for an awesome cab ride over familiar territory, it was a privilege to ride 608.
DC #4375 has a nice 645E prime mover. It doesn't really look too good though. She was driven in on her own power. She's operational though but she requires some work before she can be put on the mainline. Fruit Salad livery has been chosen for DC #4375. Its expected to be in service in 2025
Currently it is non operational. The cab has been replaced with one from another loco, among many other parts. It should be close to new when done.
She was driven in, and I'm sure once she's finished she'll be driven out. Great video.
It's gonna be nice when DC #4375 is unveiled in 2025 wearing a fresh coat of paint and joining the DAs in mainline excursions
Indeed Sam!
Nice video, likes from me.
Your next project. Its basically a DA in drag isn't it?
It was originally a DA from Canada but it was rebuilt in Australia by Clyde Engineering with a completely different carbody and the newer at the time 645 prime mover
@@OfficialSEIC2K6 Nope same carbody from Da1540.
Yes it's the current project. Slightly "modernised Da" yes!
Clyde built DA1431's 567C prime mover roars to life
Love it.
Wait I thought Phil retired back in 2016 or 2017?
Very nice was cool to see the old Da down. hope to see it again maybe later this year or next year if she comes back :D
Brilliant, one of the great engineering feats in NZ if not the world 🙂
I might be going on The Big Tararua Day Out. What Da do you know??
so when do they open or close?
how do they switch tracks on the boat deck??
This would have to be the best cab ride video that I've seen. No music, no interruptions just the sound of a steam locomotive working hard with driver and fireman going about their business. Awesome thank you.
Why did they put a bloodie DFB on this?
Fascinating!
Love this, that cutting at 4m42s sounds good on video, but i bet its better in person....!!
Great Video, fantastic that such an old engine can perform so well thanks guys
In the hands of a good crew there!
This is neat, 608 working fantastically.
Yes!
Good aye?!!
Nice one Peter, certainly worked Dave’s ass of
He sure did Robert, another day at the office eh..
This is probably the best crew you could ask for
Great Video, love the POV
Glad you enjoyed
It is wonderful. Where are these locomotives going? Does DEV Aratere still carry freight trains on a daily basis?
They were heading to CHCH then onto Invercargall and return. Yes the Aratere is a important part of the rail system in NZ. Thank you for watching.
Was this The Daffodil Express?
Sure was young fella
@@trainfixer1981 If I were to come to your yards sometime would I be allowed to get a cab ride in 1431? Tommy is gonna let me in the yards and let me do a job so after the job I thought maybe I could get a cab ride around the yards?
Now thats the proper way to travel
Ahh, Troll Rail wagons!
Tommy Secker said I could come have a look in your yards next time I come up. Would there be an opportunity to blow 1431 or 1410’s horn or possibly start them up?
Like a music to my ear
Aah... What a beauty the G12 is... Especially one with the A-1-A bogie...
4:11 nice horn 1410 has.
Yes it does Cairo! Genuine Da horns.
Cool
What an awesome sight :-) Interesting to see the tank containers with Toll written on them....Toll ' using' KR a.k.a "NZR" the proper way 👍😁
wonderfull locomotiva EMD G 12. Very good.
Yes indeed!
Muito bem locomotiva. você é uma guerreira.
The view from that bridge is nuts. To think it's supporting a million or more pounds of dynamic load, plus the tractive forces from the locomotives... Don't look down!
Is this Loco based in Feilding?
This loco is based in Paekakariki
Beautiful video
Thank you! 😊
What was Pushing the cars the locomotives ?
A small locomotive is coupled to some bespoke flat runner wagons, you can spot the wagons on the front of the steam locomotive.
Hearing that V12 roar brings back a lot of memories. We have the same locomotives in Sri Lanka under the M2 classification. One of it got toppled during the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. It’s now restored and back in service.
I would like to visit Sri Lanka one day to see the M2.
@@trainfixer1981 Definitely, you should! There are very scenic railway journeys to enjoy. Here is a video of the M2 that was affected by the Tsunami. Notice the blue line of the livery having a wave on the side - to mark that it was a Tsunami victim. ua-cam.com/video/KWrZdPya7Io/v-deo.html
Here's another video compilation of EMD G12 (M2s). YOu can check out his channel for more sri lankan train videos including Cab rides :) ua-cam.com/video/m_iyQ7morL4/v-deo.html
Hi Peter, although JA 1271 is in light steam, i take it she's braked via the two DA's as she's part of the train?
Yes the brakes are setup to function like a carriage on the train.
@@trainfixer1981 Thanks for the info.

Nice👍… somewhere near the top of the spiral. There used to be an over hang called the “mantelpiece”…. I don’t know much more except the old man saying the you looked straight out the drivers window.. down in the a river way below.be great to find out
Is this locomotive an EMD GM G 12? Uau! Increadble machine! I lked so much!
Yes it is a Clyde G12 which is based on the G12's built by GMD & EMD
SOUNDS LIKE A 16-567 to me!
12 cylinders
雖然EMD567引擎的聲浪很像台鐵柴頭引擎的聲浪,但台鐵柴頭系列是用EM 12-645E系列的柴油引擎。
Thank u Peter for this video I was on the steam train that day. such a fantastic way Of celebrating railway history in New Zealand

Those jacks would have been great to have when we put 1271 back on to its driving wheels (we had to use pigsties and 30-ton loco jacks - hard work, and took all day). Steam Inc has a well-deserved reputation for professional standards.
