    The most important part was totally left out . . . from what we could see . . . your cutter might as well as been a screwdriver . . . you need an over head shot to show the configuration of the cutter bar.

    That’s the price of 24 carat gold. It’s only £24/g for 9 carat gold. I found the eBay seller, but they didn’t say what grade gold it was salted with so I’d assume 9 carat.

      Hey modelling mark from the research I have done raw gold like this labelled Placer gold can be resold at 24K price to other gold paydirt companies. Plus the two nuggets I found have a slight premium above scrap value. Don’t get me wrong these shouldn’t be seen as investment but they are a bit of fun and can always get some money back. I think the ROI on this came in at about 65%.

    Lotta videos about this round column mill problem. Here’s what I do: extend the quill down, put a mag base on the table and zero up a travel indicator on the side of the quill, go up or down with the head as needed and bring the head back to zero before you tighten the clamp bolts. It’s kind of a hassle, but it does the job and avoids all of the mods that people are doing.

    A flanged bronze bushing and a broze washer on the other side would have been a better solution. In fairness to the manufacturer, they probably make better finished versions of the same vice made for other brands / resellers at a higher cost aimed at the professional market. The average buyers of 6 inch milling vices are mostly professional users who wouldn't go for a bargain basement version. Vevor is filling that little niche for hobbyists with small budgets and big dreams.

    Just to add , I had their GH mill which was B****y horrible. I bought a krv 2000 for commercial work which was great but weighed 900k. Watching you set the head up. Machine DRO sell a trammel gauge which takes 60secs to set the head up vertical. Money well spent if you keep moving the head.

    I've recently bought one of these. If you are a model engineer ,it's very good. Mine's an r8 spindle. Disassembling is dead easy. I had to move mine from the garage to workshop up the top of my garden. I put it back together and clocked it up ,the machine was spot on. I fitted some digital scales £35. If you need something more substantial , buy a KRV , a better bridgeport.

    Thanks for the heads up regarding the sale prices. I treated myself to a GH-18. Specifications say that it's a single phase motor, however mine arrived with a three phase motor and a VFD mounted in a box behind the column, so very easy to modify for variable speed as well as the gear selections.

    Well done it looks like you've got yourself a good machine there, I have a Super Major which Ive had for 16 years and Ive just rebuilt the gearbox after one of the shafts broke in two so I would be interested to see what happened to your old mill. When tramming or checking the nod make sure the head is clamped to the column if it isn't the the head will lean forwards giving false readings I use a brake disc for checking mine it is worth buying a new brake disc just for this and reduces any errors that might occur when lifting the clock stylus onto blocks or parallels. One of the big failings of all of these Chinese mills is the rigidity of the base castings so don't bolt it down tightly to the top of your bench and if necessary shim under any corner that has a gap before bolting it down, finger tight is enough. Id also suggest you invest in a set of finger collets these reduce the overhang from the spindle greatly improving rigidity and increasing working height. Keep up the good work and enjoy your new machine.

  • @Techno0908
    @Techno0908 2 місяці тому

    I’m going to say the ‘mud’ in the gearbox is what caused the failure not the other way around. Here is Australia I’ve repaired many hafco machines which are the local brand equivalent to like Grizzly and I think these Warco machines. Nearly every Chinese machine I work on you end up cleaning that sort of brown or black sludge out of the gearboxes. It’s usually any combination of casting sand, grinding dust, swarf and paint all ground in with the oil, it usually even persists after several oil changes if you didn’t tear down the machine previously to clean it. Unfortunately nothing really gets cleaned on cheaper machines, we had a radial drill that literally had 5mm of sand in the bottom of the gearbox oil and then clumps of casting sand just painted over. 😬

    Good but still no information on the minor but important details like the Jumpers.. I still have no instruction on whether I use PWM or Freq for my Stepper and the 3 choices of Frequency.. Also you don't point out that if you don't connect the ENA cable then the button switch on the Pulse PCB doesn't work.. I am looking for explanations/consequences.. not just descriptions.. Thank you

    As a time served turner so much of this fills me with horror. Long sleeves, chucking measuring devices onto a bench, rubbing freshly turned metal with your hands, the tool post locking handle over the chuck, get a centre in when you are knurling . Mate I wish you well but accidents waiting to happen. If your metal fits face off as close to the chuck as is safe ( especially with soft metals) to get a good square finish.

    • @MachiningwithJoe
      @MachiningwithJoe 3 місяці тому

      Hi Ruud glad you enjoyed the video. So the table is actually a table I fabricated. It is mainly made from 2” steel box section with a 5mm steel top. When I made it I ensure the weight would be on top of the uprights so no weight was directly held up by the welds.

    Very good video Joe, thankyou. I think you and Ade have picked very well. Good Prices at Warco, tested and configured. I'll be joining you in the next few months, hope I have the luck you have had. You got a good un!!!!. If you get the time, it would be good to see you fit a 2 axis DRO. Is a 3 axis DRO out of the question ?. As that little LCD thing I would assume would not be ideal for reading.

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video. Hopefully when you come to buy yours there is still the good saving that there currently is. So I’m going to be using the DRO that I removed from my old mill. For that reason it will be a 2 axis and also as I have done a video on DRO installation I probably won’t be doing one with this mill as this mill is easier to do.
