We like to focus on the Experience of getting outside and adventuring with our cameras! I’ll share what I’m looking for when composing a shot, and sprinkle in the occasional tidbit about settings and gear, but the main idea is to Immerse ourselves in the environment we’re exploring together. My goal is to Inspire! We don’t need to travel to exotic locations to create beautiful works of art. Sometimes, all we need to do is step outside our door!

Shoshone Falls Awakened | Niagara of the West
Shoshone Falls is one of those waterfalls you wouldn’t expect to see located amongst rocky cliffs and sagebrush. But, winding it’s way through southern Idaho, the Snake River drops 212 feet to create this magnificent waterfall lovingly referred to as the Niagara of the West! It’s a popular tourist attraction for obvious reasons, but not all visitors are lucky enough to see it at its peak flow. Late this spring (May 2024), Steve and I happened to be there on a bright blue-sky day when the falls were at their best and caught some beautiful drone footage of the falls, and some photos, too!

Capturing Fall Color in the Park 🍂 PHOTO ADVENTURE
Hi! I love the way you project your passion for photography. How do you handle the weight and size of your equipment? What strap do you use? Thans for your answers my best wishes for you.
Thanks so much! This is definitely some pretty weighty gear! I try to be very selective in what gear I bring with me to manage the weight. If I'm doing street photography, it'll be just the camera with one lens attached (I leave everything else at home). I use a BlackRapid camera strap like this one (my exact model has been discontinued): amzn.to/3Z3XrAu This is my favorite strap, the sling style allows the camera to hang at my side, taking the weight off my neck. It's definitely my go-to. If I'm wanting more lenses on a longer shoot, say a hike or a landscape shoot, I try to keep it to 3 max in my camera bag. This routine has worked out for me so far! Here's a link to my gear page if you're interested in finding out more: lovethatshot.com/photography-gear/
I love my D850 I will never sell it. Picture quality is impressive
Wow, what a magical place you visited! Thanks for sharing your art and passion !! Love it
Excellent choice, I also purchased this gear recently. Comparing to the previously used D610, the D850 image sharpness and performance in low light situations is mind blowing!
Hoping you will be continuing your D850 journey as I am joining the ‘club’ (well almost) - I’ve just ordered a new D850! Initially I won’t have a lens for it but hey, one step at a time 😂
honestly, I don't think that D850 is in general a good camera for street photography ... it's not a coincidence that best street photographers use kind of smaller and more discreet cameras than a huge threatening dslr with big lenses ... I am saying that as an owner of D850 (and previous owner of D810 and before that D800) .. for this purpose I was trying a lot of other cameras for my street photography of which I shall give a honourable mention to Fuji's x-t20 and x100f, both are fantastic cameras for street photography ... I use currently for my street photography an old Nikon Df with primes (20, 24, 28, 35, 50mm .. all old nikon af-d, af-i or af primes which can be bought second hand for a bargain)
For whatever the reason, your video came to my timeline, and I was surprised to hear someone else had been using the D7000! I love that camera and still use it. Like you I also jumped to the big leagues, but with a D800, which I also love as my current workhorse. So glad to know that there are still other Nikon shooters in YT. Thanks for your time.
Beautiful picture, thank you for sharing.
I'm sorry, but 16MP is twice the mp needed for 24" prints... In fact, you could make billboards with 6 megapixels. Yoi view them from 100+ feet away. Similarly, you're not going to stand 2" from the canvas of a 24" print, you're gonna stand a few feet back, and you will not see a difference.
The D850 is a great camera, but for me it would be too heavy and too dominant for street use. I like to be more discrete in the city.
That's a stunning waterfall. Nice to see you posting again!
Congrats! The D850 is an iconic camera
I got my d850 yesterday
Misty, where have you been? Thought we’ve lost you. Please don’t stop posting.
Love the view so beautiful. Thought you had stopped posting. Hope to see more
Thought this was another dead channel but apparently it's still alive after all. 👍
Yeah, I had a job opportunity pop up this spring that took me away from video-making, but I'm still here! I'm still out taking photos when I can. I don't know when my next video will come out, but it will. 😊
@@lovethatshotadventures Good to hear. 😀

Thanks, glad you liked it! 😊

Glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
Hey hi, Misty. Thanks for posting. I am so glad you could post. Powerful images of Shoshone falls. What a powerful display of nature.
@@AliasJimWirth Nice to see ya, Jim! Glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Very nice! Awesome to see the falls from a different perspective.
@@kevintracy177 It was really fun (and a bit nerve-wracking) flying the drone over the falls. I wanted to get closer but that big puff of mist made me a bit nervous! 😁
Is there a big difference in image quality btw the Nikon d850 and the D810?🤔
I can't really say as I don't have experience with the D810, but I've seen mixed reviews.
I shot with a Nikon D810 for over 8 years and loved it. I purchased a Nikon D850 in 2022 and have no regrets. It’s an outstanding camera! I can honestly say that there is a slight difference in image quality and sharpness probably due to the megapixels. But there is a lot to be said about what determines image sharpness. I can honestly say that I believe the white balance on the D850 is way better. Happy shooting! 📷
Congratulations on D850 it’s a great camera! I still own mine and find situations where I prefer D850 but, if you make the jump to mirrorless one day, you’ll see quantum leap forward in technology and image quality. I’m enjoying your videos and passion for photography! (The Z8 would be a great companion 😊)
Thanks so much for your comment, glad you're enjoying my videos! 😊
Quantum leap? Really? Please elaborate. I've seen reviews where some people claim that D850 pictures look better than those taken with the Z8. Thanks
@@gertwallen that’s nonsense. You need to understand the technology. Z cameras use a different size lens mount. The F mount is 44mm and the Z mount is 52mm. Why is this important you ask? Because Nikon wanted to design a whole new generation of lenses to allow for the lens to be physically closer to the camera’s sensor. Thus virtually eliminating chromatic aberration and lens flare with their newer design and coatings. The rendering of these newer images are actually sharp from edge to edge even wide open and not “soft” as their F mount counterparts are. There really isn’t much comparison between D850 and Z8 or Z9. It’s an entirely different camera. Nikon has already announced that they are discontinuing DSLRs. Nikon is selling what they have to be rid of them. Nikon’s future is in mirrorless. The old DSLRs can create wonderful images but, it’s not mirrorless and even the older F mount lenses render better on Z mirrorless bodies with the FTZ adapter. I just don’t understand the mirrorless bashing from Nikon users who either never owned a Z camera and are diehard DSLR users. You don’t need to take my word for it, just watch it happen before your eyes. I’ll take my Z9 any day over the D850.
@@jorsetti Thanks for your reply. First off: I'm not bashing, I was just asking since I really see many reviews where they compare D850 and Z8 pictures taken in same conditions and they say (of course it's subjective) that color rendering looks better and other comments. I never owned a D850 or Z8., my last camera was a D800E many years ago. Now I'm planning to return to my hobby and evaluating which camera to buy. The price difference is really enticing. The Z8 as you say is technologically more advanced and futureproof, but not considering video, just landscape photography mainly, the D850 which is a tank can last a lifetime with proper care and probably if you show same picture taken with the Z8 and D850, most people would be unable to discern which of the two cameras was used for the shot.
@@gertwallen you have consider the Nikon D850 has a mechanical shutter and eventually will break. When it does break parts to replace will be scarce or not available and likely a used shutter from a previous D850. On the other hand, the Z8 has no mechanical shutter (like the Z9) and no one knows how long a camera will last without a mechanical shutter, it’s too new to know. If you’re only doing landscapes, the D850 is more than capable. I’ve never been disappointed with the color science used in Nikon sensors, even in their DSLRs. It’s all good with Nikon. I suppose if you only shoot JPGs instead of RAW, you have some options otherwise you get what you get out of the sensor. However most photographers (eventually) shoot RAW to adjust the dynamic range and color grade in post with software. It’s kinda the way of the world these days.
Congratulations!! Well done!!!
@ullybleil Thanks so much!
Thank u for your review on the D-850 Yes your Video is a year old... I will follow your utube site kudos to You Boston ❤️ Massachusetts
Hello to Boston! Thanks for following my channel!
Thank you for your review.! On the. ---------------------- D850 Boston ❤️ Massachusetts
Loved Idaho (from the little bit I saw of it) on a recent road trip. I basically dipped into Idaho when heading back to UT via Grand Teton, and loved what I saw. I need to explore Idaho and Montana much more in the future. Great channel, keep the cool vids coming!
You dipped into a very beautiful part of Idaho! You'll find more of that mountain scenery in Northern Idaho, too. I love living here... I drive north into mountain terrain and southeast into dessert. It's quite a varied state as far as scenery goes! Glad you're enjoying the channel!
Very nice!!!
@ullybleil Thank you! 😊
I enjoyed your street photography work and what you had to say about this beautiful beast of a camera. I've had mine since 2018 and love it, I also bought the Nikon Z7 at the same time and both are wonderful. They have very similar features which makes for a great backup. I was teaching a class when the clouds decided to piss on us and the D850 which was on the tripod got quite wet and I can tell you (wetter than a waterfall spray) it handled the rain perfectly with the Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8e. I've got friends who has sold theirs to go with the Z9 and regret getting rid of it (not because of issues with Z9) they just felt they should have kept both. In my opinion it is one of Nikon's best DSLR and will be for some time.
Thanks so much, I sure appreciate your comment! I have been extremely happy with the D850 and will most definitely hang on to it for a long time. 😊
only camera that beats it in pure raw photo quality is the GFX.
Cool content, I just did not get your statement that you are trying out your new D850 camera in 2023? I am still using my D850, but only due to nostalgic reasons to remind me on the real art of photography.
Some of us buy a still great D850, because we cannot chase more expensive options. It is still a very capable camera. A bit heavier but still a great camera.
It was never in my budget until now! haha I'm a little old school anyway... I learned photography on a film camera, so the latest and greatest tech hasn't been my main focus. 😊
Just upgraded from D7500. It's certainly heavier but yea the dynamic range and image size are just perfect 👌
Whos the voice in the background your husband?
Yep, that’s my husband, Steve.
Im looking to buy one, how is the auto focus on it? And work done in low light how does the Camara hold up
I’m very pleased with the auto focus. I’m also very pleased with its low-light capabilities. In fact just a few weeks ago I was able to capture color from the northern lights that weren’t at all visible with the naked eye in my city location (light pollution). I’m so happy with the D850! If you do decide to purchase, I would be very grateful if you used my affiliate link (amzn.to/3ZfWBih). It helps me keep going with the channel! 😊
Hi there! Just discovered your channel here in Belgium. Your excitement over the camera is nice to see. I do have a question though. Why did you opt for the D850 over Nikon's new Z-line? Thx a lot and greetings from Belgium, Pascal
Nice to have you here, Pascal! I talk about my reasons for choosing the D850 in my unboxing video here: ua-cam.com/video/TEbLy2SbcS4/v-deo.html
Hi guys at Love that shot, hope all is great with both of you... Looking forward to your next video. Mark R.
Thanks so much for your comment, Mark! I’ve had a job opportunity pop up that’s taken us away from video making recently, but I’m out taking photos whenever I can.
That sounds awesome, I look forward to your new video, and you guys have an awesome holiday weekend.
Hello, i remember one of your first video with d850 ... I don't want to spend budget for a z8 and a few z lenses! So i wanted to upgrade my d780 .main reason was resolution. But now i bought one d850 secondhand, and i descover much more reasons. Even live view with ais lenses. It folow head of subject so you can check sharpness easily on eyes! (So i don't have to buy zf) and this weekend, i was surprised by efficiency of 3d af tracking.... I wanted to thank you because your enthusiasm made me open the choice... Best regards ☀️📷☀️
So glad you’re enjoying the D850! I sure appreciate your comment. 😊
What did you shoot the video with?
We used the iPhone 13 Pro to shoot the video, the overhead shots were with our DJI Mini 3 Pro drone.

I’m glad you enjoyed the video, Micke! We have the DJI Mini Pro 3 drone and I’ve really liked how user friendly it’s been for our first drone. Thanks for sharing great photos .I love the fact iv never had to edit a photo out of the camera , nef raw in the menu has plenty of options to change /fine tune your images into what i pre visualised as i took the shot .
Oh yes.... I'm a wedding photographer in about 30 minutes before we were getting ready to shoot the ceremony I pair of black dress shoes from the heel forward did exactly what yours did started flopping around I wasn't sure what I was going to do I found some very cheap duct tape, from one of the maintenance men, but that lasted about 15 minutes and then right before the ceremony was gonna go on one of the other maintenance man brought some heavy duty glue, and some real duct tape, and we glued and taped it together round and round and round where the toes were, and that's how I shot the whole wedding. But you ain't seen nothing yet about two years before that my black belt that I wear with my black pants because I'm a wedding photographer broke and because my black pants are not as tight fitting as my jeans I was having a hard time keeping them up, so my assistant grabbed a couple camera straps, hooked up to my belt loops and basically cinched up my pants for me. That's how I shot the rest of the wedding you gotta keep working.
Oh my, what an experience! Yes, you gotta keep working... duct tape and all! 😁
Beautifull real dslr , the last one nikon made , its a tough hi def beauty , you enjoy your next ten years , your photos will come alive now , everyone that hated full frame fans ,(because they felt inferior) daft , always love the d850, mirrorless is disposable , they have mk 10 and 11s now 😁😁 you will be taken.totally serious withna Dslr , mirrorless users arent keen on learning ,
I got another this feb (2024) couldnt bear a diz poz able camera , every Z camera has a mk¹ or 2 or 3 z5 z6z7z8 ,, mk1 2 3, something says they hant got them right yet , plus having used z9s up scotland not impressed batteries went before climbers came over the ridge , hah so much eviewfinder !
10:47 I would not mind living in that gorgeous brick apartment. Top right.
8:30 That "selling point" of mirrorless being lightweight is such a scam from all camera brands. Because when you look at the majority of Z lenses, they're three times as big compared to the D lenses (which I use) and the same size if not sometimes twice as big compared to the G counterparts. Even micro 4/3 cameras and lenses are no longer compact like the first couple generations from 2012. BTW awesome video! Glad to see people out there are still buying new Nikon DSLRs. I primarily use Nikon film cameras, but I had D200 since launch 2005 and sold it in 2021 for a Nikon Df. It didn't perform how I expected for weddings, so sold it and picked up three Nikon D700s instead. Before choosing the Df however, I contemplated between it and the D850. I skipped on the D850 because it lacked three features I depend on: close subject priority AF, pop up flash and AF assist beam. Features that are crucial for low lit reception venues. I thought I could get away with the lack of those features with the Df, but nope. So I had to go back one generation with the D700.
Thanks so much for your comment, you make some good points, and glad you enjoyed the video!
Love your video. I lived in snow. It is pretty but I would not want to be in it. Enjoy your 850 in good health. Ready for a Z8 or 9 ?
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! I would definitely be open to the Z series... when the prices start coming down a bit. 😉
Got myself a brand new used one last year - and am still discovering it. But would never EVER used it without a strap. Never did with any NIKON - and never will. Sometimes you want both hand s free and always you want to be safe to NOT drop the camera!
This is the best in the hand feeling camera I’ve ever tried. The grip is fantastic.
Agreed!
