Plus more regional matches for teams that are isolated geographically, easier away days for those fans and easier travel expenses for those teams
Fuck MLS being scared of relegation. When USL implement relegation they take over US soccer. End of Story. Go Hartford Athletic!
ein Beitrag des Freitages, 20. Dezember 2024 My greetings from the State of Schleswig-Holstein, the Northernmost state of the united Federal Republic of Germany! ° The "Krauts" are the main contributor, to the current US population! ° "German North America" ^ Alaska; Saskatchewan; Manitoba; Washington State; Oregon; Idaho; Wyoming; Nevada; Wisconsin; Minnesota; ^ North Dakota; South Dakota; central Missouri; amish parts of Pennsylvania cup tournaments "Yeah, baby!" promotion and relegation "Yes!" Climbing upwards the social latter, is the essence of the "American Dream"! In advance, towards y´all: Merry christmas and a happy new year 2025!
Any idea what this will do for scheduling? Last season, USL1 cut its season down to 22 matches to accomodate this tournament (which only involved USL1 teams, for anyone who didn’t know this tournament already existed). I would assume USL1 is increasing to 26 matches with its expansion, but can USLC stay at 34? How would they adjust the schedule if they don’t? The 34-match format they’ve been using the last two seasons is as fair and balanced as you can get with 24 teams in 2 conferences. I also think MLS has way too strong of a stranglehold on American pro soccer for this to have a serious impact on them. I started following RIFC at the start of the year, but I will continue to follow the Revs through their current teardown. That being said, I would love for the Leagues Cup to be dissolved and for MLS to rejoin the USOC. It is absolute garbage that the majority of MLS teams don’t field their senior teams, yet it still awards a CCC spot.
I am sorry but pro/rel isn’t coming.
*Union OMAHA fan from VA*
I LOVE THE BATTERY AND USL IN GENERAL
People do NOT want pro/rel. The only people that want this are the loudest fans. The majority of soccer fans in this country do not care about pro/rel. This idea that MLS is going to feel threatened by USL because they pro/rel is delusional. MLS is just a higher quality league, is making hand over fist more money than USL and has larger fans bases and more eyeballs actually watching than USL.
Why not add another cup for Division 2, NISA, and the amateur leagues? This will help as well.
Respectfully pro/rel makes 0 sense in America. If they adopt pro/rel then get rid of playoffs and any sense of fandom from the casual American sports fan
Im hoping Greenville gets promoted to to Championship
USL is not a real league. Attendance and profit shows it.
I'm sorry I'm gonna have to side with MLS in this supposed war. As an American that became a soccer fan kind of late I know all about how casual American sport fans think about sports that Aren't their first sport. Which is how it is for more Americans than not. And they aren't interested in non-American sports ideas. Like Pro/Rel. It's a foreign concept that Other countries use in their soccer leagues. (And Maybe other sports? Idk.) America has never used such a system and it would be a total FAIL to try it and expect that somehow it will make soccer the Number One Sport in this country. It might please super diehard soccer fans and people from other countries... But not most Americans... And just like them I HATE the idea of Pro/Rel. No casual American sports fan who is a fan of the NFL, college gridiron football, NBA, and whatever other sports league first... Will want to give an MLS team; and soccer in general, a try, just to have that team get relegated into irrelevancy a season or two after starting to follow them. That fan will go back to their original sport in a heartbeat. And I know MLS hates Pro/Rel as well. And logistically it won't work for a Lot of teams either. Several MLS teams would probably go bankrupt and fold if they got relegated and their fans left and the money stopped flowing in. And MLS isn't having that. And I'm not either.
@@SuperSirianRigelwow someone who actually understands! The only people who want pro/rel are the loudest people on the internet. USL can implement this into their own league, but they are crazy to think this is going to peel away MLS fans (and other soccer fans) in droves. The average fan does not care about pro/rel nor do they want it.
@wadeflores6978 Cause fans can't evolve, ya just like every other sport struggling in the states. Perhaps doing things the americana way isn't the way forward....
@@wadeflores6978 Thanks. Glad to hear there are other normal American sports fans out there that might love soccer... But see the reality of the situation as well. lol.
More ratings in the USL final than the MLS... What exactly? The MLS Cup? I doubt it. Maybe higher than MLS regular season games. And really truthfully the main reason MLS is struggling with ratings somewhat is because of being tied to Apple TV and the fact that they don't advertise themselves worth a crap on regular television. If MLS would get their act together this wouldn't be a contest.
Notice how he only mentioned cable tv and not Apple TV subs.
@@wadeflores6978 Yeah. lol. And he didn't really say What Games he was comparing exactly either. lol.
@@SuperSirianRigel it seems obvious hes comparing the usl and mls finals cable numbers. hardly surprising, mls cant market itself
@@wadeflores6978seems to everyone else that he made that clear in the video. Were you not listening?
@@yesteryearatl Nope. Didn't sound like that to me. Sounds like he was picking and choosing whatever comparison he felt like to fit what he wanted to say.
People are not going to be fans of a leagues or players they are fans of teams. You want people to follow USL get them to follow their local team. Then they start to pay attention to the other teams.
A very positive step, and definitely a path toward pro/rel. Next item of business... organizing the leagues within the pyramid to a workable number of clubs per league. USL Championship is already too large (24 clubs in the most recent season), and plans to bring on a ridiculous additional total of 14 more within the next 2-3 years. USL1 lost two clubs, but is adding 4, bringing it to 14 clubs. I believe there are future plans for 2-4 additional USL1 clubs following this coming season. There are furthermore 10 NISA clubs (also 3rd division, like USL1), and two independent (unaffiliated with a parent club) MLS Next Pro clubs. This is stupid on several levels. First, bring all independent clubs under the USL banner, thus eliminating the confusing structure of multiple leagues on the same rung of the pyramid. Second, get good with the idea that 16-20 clubs per league ought to be the maximum, and that all leagues should play a standard home and away schedule. No more thirty team leagues, or conferences, or unbalanced schedules. Once the field is set, and future planned (as of today) clubs are up and running, use the Jaegermeister Cup to set future leagues. IE, if you finish in the top sixteen, you're automatically in the top tier, plus 2-4 determined by playoff. Remaining clubs are organized by league according to finishing order with the usual tie-breaks (points, goal diff, total goals, away goals, fair play, etc). Sixty-four clubs over 4 leagues - that is perfect. Beyond that, there are 150-200 USL2 clubs in regional leagues. That's great. I'm sure some club owners would love a shot at breaking into the fully professional ranks - there's your fifth tier. They're not eligible for the JM Cup, but they are eligible for promotion, provided they meet minimum requirements (grounds/facilities, finances, etc). Let MLS do its own thing on the traditional North American league model. We'll do our thing on the traditional European model. For the record, I support Union Omaha. We have three Shields, two Cups, and numerous USL-C and MLS scalps nailed to our wall from Open Cup play (in five years of existence). I'd say that we have earned our shot. Come On You Owls Up the Union
This will never happen and is completely delusional.
Excellent!!! MLS is terrible. No accountability whatsoever. Promotion/relegation is only sollution. Good vid! Thanks!
“MLS is terrible”…what team won the US open cup? What teams are in the FIFA club World Cup? What league has higher evaluation than all USL teams combined? MLS
Even though I'm an Orlando City fan i still follow Tampa Bay Rowdies
What worries me is USL is looking more and more like a MLS Lite. Their decisions are similar to what MLS would make. MLS is at least planning to change their calendar to Fall - Spring in 2026. USL is "still looking into it". Maybe they're waiting to see how USLSL does in their first season. We've got to get rid of this "league mentality". USL is not going to make MLS irrelevant with this current path. The best move for them to make is to push for an open pyramid and organize every club under that umbrella.
I hate european set up, justvstick to what works, a regualr season, and post season.. havibg cups in between isnt gonna work
I’m fine with cups but pro/rel isn’t for the American sports market
Yall speaking about one offs on tv, USL got the tv time because of arrogant MLS
Lol😅
ML$ keeps putting teams in existing USL cities, and it kills the USL club, in order to hurt the MLS you need to get some teams in ML$ cities and hurt them where it matters, their pockets. Even if 10% go to USL games instead of ML$ then it could make some teams viable. I wish the Portland metro area had a second team or Seattle. Just can't be too close to the existing stadium, better off on the other side of the city, lower ticket cost, lower priced concessions, and it could get decent crowds
VAMOS AV ALTA!
cheers to Jägermeister
Having local TV access is vital for growth to build enthusiasm.
I love having both leagues participate, it will expose fans to a league they may not have access to. Bring on pro/rel. The more I learn about the MLS the less I like it.
@@DavidRilmy dude, no one is following USL because those don’t have access to it. These fans follow these teams because they live in these markets and they want to support US Soccer. If you are from Mexico and you live in Omaha, you are likely not going to support these clubs USL One team because you and your family have been supporting Chivas your entire life. And these fans see US soccer as a joke. I also don’t think you have seen any MLS games, you should try. The quality is miles apart from USL.
I’m not surprised that not everyone in each group is facing each other. It seems kinda similar to the new UEFA tournament formats in that sense
Great step in the right direction. Make sure you support your clubs and watch! Put the cup games on 10 different computers if you can!
BTW - The sound on your video is very muffled. Sorry to say - content very good !
Jager seems to sponsor all of the right initiatives: my drunkenness, based soccer tournaments, etc.
So dumb, why should I have to pay for a subscription (Apple TV) to watch mls,I get that I should have it pay but,the mls is so hidden,1-2 games a season on antenna,so dumb,I hope the mls doesn’t exist in the future
I hope we get promotion 🤞
I hope we don’t
@@UptheBlackCatsThe majority of fans in the country don’t care about pro/rel. this is a pipe dream that will never come to fruition at the top level. Even if USL implements pro/rel it is not going to have the impact that you think it will.
USL (MLS Cup Final too honestly) Final should be in Vegas ever year. Seeded hosting rights for a knockout format tournament feels corny/archaic American
MLS fans prefer to have the top seeded team host the final. Fans did not like the neutral venues in the past.
I don't know man. I am not a fan of sponsored cups. I always hated that shit in europe, always thought it was cringe. But we will see what it is like next season
This is gonna be awesome! Lets go Chattanooga!
It would've been better to have a straight knockout instead of the group stage IMO but good luck to the USL.
Loving this!! Can’t wait for next year!
Love this! So proud of the USL for forging forward... I am looking for investors to bring USL League 1 team to Ogden, UT... hit me up!
Hell yeah, datz wud be awesome
They should do a preliminary round for USL 2 teams to fill the final group spots!
I agree but the problem is most USL2 teams are just d1 college players so their season is super short
sounds like a lot of extra games, but I don't see why you couldn't promote from League One and relegate from USL Championship. I don't see MLS allowing it or any semi-pro team like USISL or NISA being viable for promotion
Funny how you mention that on Garber & the USOC. Word is the schedule is gonna be tight. Leagues Cup will play and this time no pause of the MLS & Liga Mx seasons on top of the new Club World Cup & Gold Cup.
I stand corrected on part of this. MLS will pause for Club World Cup.
I like this. Gives more matches for USL clubs to play in after exiting the US Open Cup (depending on the clubs). This is good for USL. Kinda hoped they would even invite independent clubs in USL League Two to test who on possibly having those clubs go pro. Mainly like Little Rock Rangers, Vermont Green, West Virginia United, Inter New Hampshire, Christos FC, San Francisco City, FC Tucson, Mississippi Brilla, and Des Moines Menace. Test the waters.
I was thinking the same thing, not those clubs specifically but it would be exactly like the nisa nations cup just much more organized
@ I only said names of some clubs as an example for clubs that could move up. I know USL has been trying for a pro team in New Hampshire and of course Des Moines is coming but it’s still unknown if that club will take the Menace name or be a total new one. And of course invite ones that don’t plan on going pro but looking to get some playing dates in
@@bigjoeofthe707 makes sense
We gotta stop making teams named inter and United it's so silly. Give me American sports names again over artificial copies. "Vermont vultures" is cool "New Hampshire huntsman" or something like that, maybe the watchmen like a lighthouse
Vermont green is a good name too though
Oh FUCK, this sounds awesome!!
Im sooo hyped about av alta fc!!
mls’s was 468,000 with way more backing, huge growth from usl
