Long time no see guys. Not even sure what to put for a description anymore so... just let me know your thoughts in the comments?
Excellent video, I asked the question about timing in your previous video about how characters are generic and we should focus on the game instead of character. Subscribed ❤
Thanks❤
Frames, ranges, dmg and ch/heat properties are prone to buffs/nerfs. So we don't really know if he's going to be strong/weak, once ppl lab him and learn to play him we might expect both outcomes. Or neither. He seems balanced in many aspects and his gameplay reminds me of Guilty Gear Strive Nago gameplay. You have space control, some risky mixups and weaker poking. Strong dmg too. Very unorthodox of Tekken devs to add a character with such strong space control. Tekken devs like small Tekken more than they like big Tekken.
This video still remains true to this day, if you’re bad at fundamentals and general poking you will struggle against Clive.
U sound like ltg's nerd impersonation

Opponent Time is a too generic term can you kindly example what opponent timing entails? Somthing like whether he is quick to take his turn once you go in negative, does he attacks even when you are in plus etc?
Absolutely amazing. Another winner tutorial!! I owe you getting to blue ranks with Bryan in a few weeks vs being stuck in mighty ruler since about 2 months after the game came out. Thank you again and keep up the great work!!
were u stuck or just didnt play ranked cause i bet you can hit mid blue easy if you simplified your game plan
@@JBlxckkI’m at the middle of raijin now and I don’t play very often. Before about a month and a half ago, I was stuck with Bryan in mighty ruler. So this guys advice in the last video helped so much. And yes I’ve simplified my plan by using moves that are 16 frames or less, no on purpose launchers Poking a lot more and waiting for counter hits to launch if it happens. I’m sure you’re far superior in ranks and I appreciate the interest! So thank you too.
Ayee welcome back to the scene bro
You have great content.
No ckive ever rematches my Bryan, and i'm not that good at Bryan
He may not have good small tekken but his big tekken more than makes up for it. Add in his installs and he can easily come back from most situations.
i just discovered your chanel big up good video and thanks for begin here c:
Yea because tekken 8 is homogeneous, that’s why everyone can play everyone now. Back in tekken 7 you weren’t seeing everyone with a dragonuv or Steve.
I can't help but feel like you really downplayed just how cancer this character really is. It's already known that F 1+2 is literally safe and hits on range 3, so how exactly does any character close that distance if they're all going to get clipped by a move that hits them from almost full screen, activates heat, activates a heat rushdown that can be combo-ed, and is a pseudo-homing. Second, his Phoenix stance into the mid-mid option is safe. That, partnered with a low poke and a hellsweep option boils down all his unsafe options in phoenix stance to be a mixup. His running 2 having horrendous frames is completely understandable, since he shouldn't rely on that move in the first place. Yeah it puts him into phoenix, and yes it's incredibly linear, but it also covers almost the whole screen. If it does hit, then onto a mixup he goes yet again. If Clive can cycle between a +14 into mixup and a safe heat activating almost homing mid-mid move with BOTH of them hitting at range 3, then he's simply broken and disrupting the game. I haven't even mentioned his almost range 3 hitting powercrush yet. His whole kit doesn't even revolve around hitting and playing at mid range, because mid-range gameplay is Bryan Fury. He gets punished for mistakes with spacing and being stepped. This character doesn't get punished for fuck all. I really can't respect anyone who plays this dog ass character.
Your caption on the vid tab says it all. I have been saying this ever since Day 1. When I saw what AK and Shadow could do with Shaheen and Claudio in the tourneys, that further confired it. Tekken 8 is a 3D fighter with the aggressive mechanics of a 2D fighter. Granted, there are some characters tools in certain areas that work out better than others, BUT overall, EVERYONE in T8 can be aggressively OP and apply crazy pressure. Once you learn the fundamentals and mechanics of T8, you have already won more than half the battle. Once the T8 community really understands and gets this, there are going to be many more characters getting love and play time and not just the same Top 7. Great video!
This video is really helpful for me since my main isn't in Tekken 8 yet (Armor King) so I hop around a lot of characters. Really helpful to think of the game as interactions instead of character specifics 👍
okay but i want to ewhf my opp to death any advice on that one mr fundamentals

So your Mathematical Tierlist is based on the perfomance of individuals?
@@sketch820 Yes! 0:22 explains it.
So my take away from this is #buffPaul
@@IAMOP #buffPaul
Mathematical tier list would be analyzing every move, it’s properties, and damage output both individual moves and combos, tracking, sidestep, etc… then you’d have real mathematical tier list.
I was expecting this to… I didn’t expect to be based of character presence and win/loss ratio in tournaments
@@paradiseb5950 that's one way to do it! I might tackle that one day
The problem with Clive isn't that he's busted. He's strong but not OP, he's just CRAZY annoying. F1+2, B1+2, strings into PHX or just rawdog PHX are frustrating to play against. On top of that, he's the new kid on the block, so EVERYONE is playing this obnoxious ass character and people get tilted.
Dragunov now is Low tier char 😢 he is very linear
Thanks man! Clive has been ABSOLUTELY cooking me when I go against him. I’ve only ever beaten him with luck or if the opponent is very predictable, especially in the lower ranks. This will really help
I was skeptical of this at first blush (and still am, somewhat, but I'm not a data scientist), but I appreciate that you not only explained your methodology but also emphasized the viewer's responsibility to interpret, not merely regurgitate, the results. Personally, I'm curious to know how much this metric of character strength is skewed by this being the first year of Tekken 8. It is clear that the game is markedly different from end-stage T7 and I suspect that some pros adapted quickly and some did not. That notion, combined with a seeming general reluctance for players to swap characters, does compel me to ask if some characters are tiered lower than they "should be" in this metric because their main pilots did not adapt well to T8 or chose to pilot a perceived stronger character. Essentially, my hypothesis is character strength may not be the only factor influencing this metric. But I lack the expertise to investigate that, so that's just me spitballing. Regardless, thanks for the interesting video!
@@maple.leaves. You make excellent points! The data is definitely skewed by factors such as the newness of Tekken 8. That's why I plan to do every other season as well, so we'll have an all time ranking as well as a season by season comparison!
Yeah, no. This tier list is completely wrong and useless.
Give me a single tier list that is useful? If you use tier lists as a Bible you probably suck at whatever game you're playing
@NeverAfraid7 there are more or less informative tier lists. For example one that tells you that drag and Yoshi and Nina are top tier is informative . One that does not is bullshit.
@TheOneAndOnlySame I disagree I think that tier lists are heavily subjective by nature and differ greatly depending on skill level and rank. Most tier lists are built for people who know the game inside and out and I'd argue that that is only about 10% of the community if that. The fact of the matter is that tier lists are only possibly useful for the top 25% of players and the top 25% of players don't need tier lists.
awesome ❤
your point system makes no sense when a lot of pros use multiple characters but if your applying the points equally even though they did not use those characters equally ie perhaps they picked hwoarang 9 times out of 10 but used shaheen 1 time out of those ten it makes zero sense to apply the points equally this is a complete waste of time.
@@RichiePajooh-r8i I initially wanted to do that, but that data is super difficult to acquire. I'd have to individually watch every single match of every player that used more than one character throughout the entire year and then distribute the points accordingly, which is too much to ask of anybody. If I had a dedicated team, then sure, I would 100% add this. However, at the moment, I'm doing this all myself, and that's just too much for any single person to handle.
So for example, if two hwoarangs placed at 90th and 100th, that could mean that Hwoarang is a better character than the character who won the tournament? I think your point system is a little questionable, tbh.
@@irvin_2711 That's a great point! I see where you're coming from, but I think that scenario makes sense. By this system, 90th and 100th (this means this is a Masters+ event) would give Hwo 216 points. The champion would get 192 points. If the champion placed anywhere past 169th, they would have passed Hwo in total points. To me, this shows that the champion is more so a result of a strong pilot more so than a strong character. I think it's also important to view this as "more successful" rather than stronger. In this case, this is just one tournament showing. The champion has a whole season to outperform Hwo.
You should make a list post patch 1.05 since the current chars in no way reflect pre 1.05.
Not a tier list. It's a pick chart for TWT.
super cool video, ty! This confirms Yoshi needs buffs
Aren't the points completely dependant on character usage? You could factor in the character usage to place the points on a curve to how much the character is used.
@@THR33_Dizzle They are! Character usage is intentionally a big part of the data. I will make sure to include that in future videos.
@AbsolutelyAbsurDDD right on, yeah, I was thinkin, if everybody ONLY picked one character, then that character would get all the points, only measures character usage tier list until you factor that out
Surprised that Lee is higher than Yoshimitsu and Kazuya. Which tournament has he won outside of Hadouken Fight Festival?
@@laurencevicar5798 Lee hasn't won any Masters events. He just consistently placed around top 33, mostly via Super Akouma

I apologize for the audio issues and inconsistent video quality. I was doing as much as I could to fix it but couldn't get in completely done in time for the end of the year. You should go sit with themainmanshill and shillX
You're crazy. He absolutely OP.
I literally fought Clive one time. I never see him lol for whatever reason. People are probably still ranking him up.
Nice downplay
I think an obvious elephant is not addressed: his power crush as keepout. You can punish it if it is spammed, but when it is used defensively with the right timing, Clive will break your poke strings and then you're miles away from Clive with lots of HP lost. So poking against Clive carries a great inherent risk.
no Ling huh?
4:29 he can just do the 2 option from the stance by itself. Which is safe on block and knockdowns on CH.
@@CosmicVoid420 very true! I know a lot more now than I did at the time of recording so I plan on releasing a better video soon.
If you trying to play "small Tekken" with Clive, you playing Clive wrong. 😂 And on the hands of a good player, good luck getting in. Part of the reason people put Asuka so low on the tier list is because she has to be so close to the opponent to be effective. Never underestimate the power of RANGE in a fighting game with little to no zoning. If he had a bunch of safe pokes AND the best range in the game, he'd be top of S tier. Making his pokes unsafe (some should even be less advantage on block, because minus nine/ten doesn't get you a good punish anyway) was smart on the devs part to NOT make him OP. But he's still very strong. Very far from mid.
Just because somebody has counterplay doesn't mean they are mid. He's top ten imo ESPECIALLY in the right hands. He's already won a tournament and there are SO many people that have gotten him to GoD already. Dude isn't invincible, but mid is downplaying.
@@saviormonroe-lh7oh I definitely have a more favorable opinion of him after playing him more. Will be posting a video soon of my updated thoughts
getting him to God means nothing when they're already god players and its day 3
@zzzzz333-z5x that's what I'm saying. There were GoD players within the first few hours. A mid character wouldn't be able to do that in the abundance that Clive did it.
