Loved the post. I was a big collector in those days and really collected from mid 60s to the early 90s. Hand assembled a 75 set finishing after buying a lot of packs. My 74 set was done the same way but I'm 4 cards short, 3 of the Aaron composite cards a common I just never got. I started just buying complete sets and stopped entirely by the mid 90s

The '73 Topps set was, unfortunately, the oldest set I was able to complete. I actively collected from 1976-1990, and bought the 1992 Topps set complete. From 1979-1990 I bought complete sets from dealers, mostly my cousin Scott and his father, my Uncle Don. I was never crazy about the look of the 1973 set, but it was the oldest set that I completed so it has some nostalgic value for me. In terms of looks and eye appeal I always liked the 1971 Topps set.

Outstanding review of this set. The most valuable card in my opinion was the Roberto Clemente card. He had tragically died in the off season but they still released a card of him.

Great video! I collected between 1969 and 1972, then moved on to other interests; returning to the hobby many years later as a parent of two card collectors. All my original cards are long gone, probably thrown out. Did manage to keep one item, though- a Willie Mays 1971 Topps coin pulled from a pack one summer evening (Mays was my favorite player)...

How do you know it's 100% them 5 hours is not bad $10 but I wouldn't spend $75 450 when you're not 100% sure it's them I used to send years and years ago I used to get the address book with all the baseball players in it and years and years ago me and my friend used to send so many every week and we will always told some of them were phony we used also send it was much cheaper baseballs to get signed I got a lot of Meatball league players back then there were a couple players back then rumored that people signed for them

I really liked this video it showed a lot of stuff that none of us really thought about. I did notice through the years that these cards were a little messy. A lot of the action shots were somewhat random and too many people in the shots. If you were not a baseball fan, you might have a hard time determining which player in the photo was the actual player for the card. This year cards was the first year I was not buying the packs at the store. It had nothing to do with the cards themselves as I was 13 years old and kind of grew out of buying baseball card packs. I will be checking out some of your other videos I really liked this one.

Many people have forgotten about this story, and so well presented here. I wonder how this would play with baseball rules today. With the pitcher having limited times to throw over, and step off. This could give the runner like Washington, a clear advantage which could upset the balance of pitcher runner. I am NOT a fan of all the new rules, (I am a boring baseball purest) and MLB doesn’t care about us in their fanbase anymore.

A love your videos but this one is just stupid. Not everything is racism. Mantle has the huge advantage of the Yankee fan base AND the fact that his 1952 high number has been THE card everybody wanted since the early 80s. It doesn't hurt that Mantle always gave off the vibe that he'd be a fun guy to hang out with while Willie Mays always seemed to be in a bad mood. Ken Griffey Jr has been one of the most popular players over the past 35 years and I'd venture that at least 90% of his most dedicated collectors are white guys.

At 25:35 he's pitching to Bob Bailey I believe. Ron Hunt had a very severe choke up batting stance and the batter appears to be down near the knob. Hunt also stood more upright in the box. The batter is in a crouch. ua-cam.com/video/gDDQdIXsUMs/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ForeverExpos

Hey man I just discovered your channel yesterday and I watched a bunch of videos about the corruption in the card business and the alleged collusion between graders and bulk sellers. I have a lot to contribute to that conversation although I don't want to do it publicly. Between 2009 and 2015 I sent in about 3,000 cards to PSA. I have also bought from all the major auction houses and consigned with a couple of them. I've also used a prominent ebay seller to consign with that you mentioned and discovered that they allow shill bidding. I didn't shill bid my card up and subsequently it's sold for about 40 to 50% less than the other examples of their sales. I did bid on it when it first posted just to see if I could bid on it and was shocked to find out that I could. I also spent 3 days at a major grading house a little over 10 years ago interviewing for a job as a greater so I have been inside their grading dungeon. I've had suspicions of some of the stuff you alluded to with my card grading submission experiences. Since I get catalogs from all the major auction houses they have great photos of the cards they're selling and I often wonder by looking at those images how they get the grades that they do compared to cards that I sent in that graded lower. Not sure if you want to discuss any of this. I'm not getting very specific because I don't want to get in any trouble. If you want to discuss further let me know and we can figure out a way. I really admire and appreciate your detective work add statistical analysis. I'm not sure how you're getting your autographs signed but I was dabbling in that about 15-20 years ago through SCD and it turned out that many of the autographs were forged. That's just an FYI. I haven't watched this video yet but I did spend a couple hours last night watching many of your others. Thanks Gary

Since the hobby tanked in the early to mid 90's and people gave it up (I did), could be after 25 - 30 years more cards are coming out of retirement or found laying around that were forgotten. OR for sure for the last few years, PSA grading is certainly a bigger thing that from 2000-2018. MORE AND MORE cards are graded at a staggering rate. Great points to think about for sure.

You commented on the airbrushing and wondered why they couldn't have included better pictures in the later series, but, I belive that 73 was the first set that wasn't released in series. This was the year that all cards came out at the same time so there are no hard to collect high numbers.

I started collecting in the early 80’s when I was about 10 years old. Buying 4 packs for $1 was the best. One of my fondest birthday present memories was from a family friend who bought me an entire box of ‘83 topps. I savored it, opening a few packs at a time over the course of days. Nowadays boxes are ripped through in a few minutes. Loved your video, thank you.

WOW! I did not have a clue about all of that using old pictures over so much. Sure I did notice some players had the same picture like Aaron and Banks but I did not know about the issues the players were having with Topps. Marvin Miller was their friend for sure and he got them extra money but his best work was yet to come. Thanks for posting this video. I just recently finished my 1969 set and now I will look at those cards again in a different way.

Good Afternoon, There are 314 comments before me and I am not sure if someone has asked this question OR the reasoning for my question is "obvious" within the hobby/industry. The questions are: 1) Why would PSA population control this card? If the answer to question #1 has something to do with aftermarket value of a card then my next question would be 2) Why would PSA care about the aftermarket value of any card? PSA's job is to grade a card within PSA's own grading standards. I would have thought that once a card has been slabbed with a PSA label and shipped out... the card would no longer be of concern to PSA. If anyone could help me with the questions above and/or any other related thought.... it would be deeply appreciated. Thank you.
