Born and raised in Mississippi (Houston to be exact) most of my life I grew up in poverty and life was a struggle here in rural MS. Lived there by the time I turn 29, and relocated to Illinois not too far from the St. Louis area (not Chicago) in 2021 with only $400 and the clothes on my back for better opportunities. Mississippi will always be my home and i still go down there occasionally to visit family but financially, and to have better healthcare, I had to leave. Fast foward 5 years I bought a house, paid off my car, have more things and money than I did when I was living in MS. I just wish they would focus on helping rural Mississippi because my homestate is more than just the coast and the Suburban counties.

I live in the Fondren area of Jackson. It's vibrant with great restaurants, coffee shops, Whole Foods market, banks, doctors and anything else you want within a three minute drive of your house. When you get tired of spending most of your time at stop lights and heavy traffic, move to Fondren. I've never even heard of these places.

The city of Jackson is a dumpster fire! Get out if you can get anything for your property! It’s NOT going to get any better!

I am a bit paranoid to say this due to not wanting to jinx myself, but so far I have had no problem with water and trash pickup. I am actually excited that it comes twice a week. Something that is unheard of in most other places and I have never had in other places I lived. However, I have only lived here a little over a month, so we will see if it continues.

As a Cypress Lake resident, I think one of the best things is the trail to the Middle School and separate trail to the High School - which makes walking or taking a golf cart to school the most commonly used ways for 6th graders & above to get to school. (skipping 9th grade - which is a different school.) The middle school trail connects with the Madison Cross-Country trails which is a great shady wooded trail system.

The good things about living in Jackson: If you want to give someone your stuff, someone will help you with that usually via a mugging or break in. If you are depressed, you probably won't have to unalive yourself someone will help you. If you feel you are not giving enough money to the government, not to fear a corrupt agency will come up with a fee or a special tax to help fleece you. If you are over weight, drink the the water it is quite toxic. If you don't like the police, again Jackson has you covered with a seriously low number of police and zero support for them from local government. If you don't like stop signs and red lights thanks to the previously mentioned police shortage and the chances of getting car jacked, most people take lights and stop signs as suggestions. And a bonus plus, property is cheap! Though there are some sticky high prices in North Jackson especially eastover. :) Edit: I forgot an extra bonus if you hate your car, Jackson roads are a literal torture test to really punish your vehicle or reward your chosen mechanic with lots of extra work fixing the assorted problems our 3rd world roads will cause you to have.

I had to to Flowood this morning. I was gone for an hour and spent 45 of those minutes sitting at stop lights on Lakeland Dr. Jackson is much more convenient, it takes me three minutes to get to Whole Foods Market.

Hi. Do you know which neighborhoods in Madison do not allow rentals?

I'm originally from Colorado, but I currently live in Texas. Texas is nice, but there are too many people here. The traffic is outrageous and almost unbearable. Not to mention, they cannot drive! 😤 I have lots of family in Mississippi, but my children and I aren't used to experiencing racism and being treated unfairly. Is that something we should be concerned about in Jackson?

MURDER per capita #1 The Mayor and District Attorney are both being watched by the FBI. THe roads are a disaster, the water is a problem, and crime is insane. Rankin and Madison counties have tough law enforcement while Jackson serves as a shelter for criminals with the backing of corrupt losers like Stokes. Jackson also has an 8% sales tax compared to 7% outside of Jackson :)

I live in Jackson, I never leave. To mention the water system in Jackson is old news, our water is great now, the reason I live here is convenience. I can get to Whole Foods, coffee shops, great restaurants, my bank and anywhere else in two or three minutes. When I'm driving around half of the license tags here are from Madison and Rankin Co. A couple just moved to our street from Madison, they got tired of driving around and spending half the day at stop lights. The title of this is really offensive to those of us who live here which is a lot. Please take this down. Thank you, Dr. Roger Parkes.

I’ve been living in Mississippi for 20 years and this isn’t a state you’d want to live in, it’s about 30 years behind on everything. If you get sick and have no insurance you’re screwed. If you lose your job and need to get some type of government assistance you will starve. Mississippi does not take care of their people, they are very corrupt and steal and hoard government funding, just to spend it with their rich friends like Bret favre. If I didn’t have family here I’d be long gone. Every time the weather gets bad we don’t have lights or water for weeks and I live in the metro area , I’m only a few minutes away from Madison.

You're right. The state of Mississippi gets a bad rap. I think that it's beautiful. I'm looking to buy on the Gulf Coast where it is a-mazing!
