Am happy to say that my first experience buying a vinyl record online that I really wanted was at Amazon’s … and oh boy what a surprise when I got a CD instead. Not even the same album I ask for. From that day on. F Amazon never again would I even look or consider buying from Amazon’s sellers

I personally try to avoid Amazon as much as possible just for the moral and ethical reasons, but I’ve been tempted a few times. Luckily my local record store more often than not beats the Amazon prices and I prefer to support local independent so it’s a win win for me. I know people in remote places don’t always have local stores they can go into tho, so I understand why people would use Amazon.

Really you want to buy by region of the artist. While the Japanese pressing is usually on top notch virgin vinyl, they tend to get Multi generation masters and have to goose the top end. In trying to bring back in the loss of the top transients by eq you loose much of the bass & lose the balance or beloved warmth in the midrange. Bass and treble loss is also common with analog tape transfers with increased SNR ratios. Especially if they copied to a lesser production tape like going 30ips to a 15ips. Even the highest quality 1:1 comes with loss. Thanks for the comparison but without comparing to other pressings you haven't really done a "vinyl" comparison. Much of what you said here about the loss of the brilliance of the sound or detail can be chalked up to inferior sources used on Japanese vinyl pressings.

Love the M50 poster in the background. I would think using a streaming file against Japanese vinyl is an odd review. Wouldn't it be a more accurate comparison to use say an American press not a thin compressed digital file that would have lack of bass and mids too. I've heard bass is lowed in Japanese pressings because of close living quarters and a cultural thing about noise.

Speaking of Weird Science, one of the best tracks in that movie is NOT on the soundtrack. General Public's "Tenderness" (think the scene with the boys in the girl's driveway with the Porsche 928, and the Ferrari Mondial) is on their first, self titled release, and that would be my hidden gem (US pressings sound great). My guilty pleasure *will* be Styx's Kilroy Was Here 🔥🤖 🔥...will be because I ordered a minty Japanese pressing w/obi so I am not sure how much more of a guilty pleasure that pressing of that album could be (it was the first album I bought with my allowance at 9 yrs old)? LITERALLY just picked up 100% Pure Poison and it is brilliant. Excellent panel and topics - highly entertaining and informative!
