Television's First (and Lost) Color Cartoon
Переглядів 68 тис.21 день тому
Before Ruff and Reddy, before The Jetsons and The Flintstones, there was Colonel Bleep. Sitting down with Scott Schleh, the son of the show's creator and animation historian/Streamline Pictures co-founder Jerry Beck, we go over the birth of television's forgotten color program. Music: Seeburg 1000, Mood 6; 1959, transferred by @RaptorsVideos This is a video adaption of my article "Building Zero...
Where Did The Cymbal Monkey Come From?
Переглядів 103 тис.Місяць тому
You've probably seen him, the monkey that claps a pair of cymbals and has an unnerving grimace with piercing eyes. Ever wonder where he comes from? This is about as far as you can get. Also forgot to credit the channel Groovy Movies for their upload of Commander USA presents Devil's Chimp. ua-cam.com/video/Ud3_siVb-WY/v-deo.html
Introduction to Finding Lost Media
Переглядів 3,7 тис.Місяць тому
Over the past decade or so, the online lost media community has continued to grow exponentially. As I've been watching this, I, like others, soon noticed that many people didn't really know how to start. A lot of people went about things the wrong way, or didn't really know where to even begin. So, I decided to adapt The Lost Media and Research Handbook into a short video for beginners directin...

Check it out! ua-cam.com/video/mIXFTo54Z7s/v-deo.html Music by John Taylor was specially created for this doc free of charge and I'm forever grateful to him for t...
ROTTEN: Behind the Foodfight
Переглядів 167 тис.6 місяців тому
In 2012, the animated feature Foodfight! was unleashed on the world. It was given a theatrical release just a year before in the UK, Russia, and Dubai. The movie cost approximately 32 million dollars, starred Charlie Sheen, Wayne Brady, Hillary Duff, Eva Longoria, and Christopher Lloyd. Yet it only made back less than 1% of its budget and lives in infamy as the worst animated feature ever creat...
How Waldo was "Banned"
Переглядів 3,9 тис.Рік тому
Where's Waldo (or Wally if you're in the UK) is a sensation that took the world by storm when it was released in 1987. But for the past twenty years, it's had the reputation of being one of the most unexpected books to be banned across the United States' public school libraries. This is that story. Quite possibly my worst line delivery to date, so if it sounds a little lackluster, that's my bad...
Interphone: The Forgotten Ordering System
Переглядів 828Рік тому
This is the Interphone system, a way of ordering food that was a somewhat common novelty during the 1960s-80s. Instead of giving your order to a waiter, you called it in directly to the kitchen. Music is from the SeeBurg 16RPM background music record library
When Did Pete First Panic? A Popping Martian's Journey
Переглядів 3,8 тис.Рік тому
This is the short but somewhat strange story about Panic Pete, the toy you squeeze and his eyes pop out. All of my sources are from here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panic_Pete I wrote that article so in this case referencing Wikipedia is okay lol. Music is from the KPM music library. Thank you to my friend Max for aiding in research! This video is a little outdated! All of the info is still accurate...
Rock n roll Martians
I wonder if the writers for the late '80s War of the Worlds TV series saw this and decided to incorporate that plot point into it about aliens becoming interested in Earth because of nuclear bombs. 🤔 Surf Wisely.
1:04 He does WHAT to his *WHAT*
Electric Cheetah because of Cheetah the Chimp of Tarzan fame

"Guys, I'm down near the teleporters! Somebody throw a Monkey & revive me!" 🐵
Ordering through an app is essentially teledine.
0:37 FUTURAMA RAHHHHHHHHHHH 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
If you throw them the zombies chase them
I had one when I was a kid. I loved it. But I was also scared to death of it.
Does the organ grinder remind anyone else of Facade in Mother 3?
i have a special interest for historical toys so you can imagine what a pleasure this is. thank you for researching.
Reminds me of an old horror movie called "monkey shines" that toy was pictured on the VHS cover.
My parents bought a TV in 1967, of course black and white. When colour TV came out 10 years later we bugged our parents for a new one but dad said all he time colour is not yet perfect, let's wait. They waited 10 years!
"Crusader Rabbit" (1957) was the first cartoon specifically made for television.
YIPPPEE!!!!! so excited to see this come to existence!!!! ::- D
2:00 It's Beany and Cecil, not Benny and Cecil.
My bad
good

Wait, so they're NOT meant to explode?
Ok so...: where monkey ? All the Research: nowhere 😶
I didn't see a color T.V. in my family's apartment until sometime in the '70's. I didn't have my OWN until 1982 - I bought a Sharp brand 13" for $250. I had that for YEARS, until, eventually, the color went to purple. It even came with a remote!!! (which, as I recall, only had a power on\off button. But, MAN, I had a T.V. with a REMOTE!!!!!!
I loved Colonel Bleep when I was a kid.
Excellent work! The presentation is concise and straight to the point with none of the usual youtube fluff and the topic just really hits that sweet spot of familiar yet mysterious...
Hate to say it, but the Bellhop monkey connection is because of racism. Some of those old designs are also very minstrel inspired blackface type shit
Going to LQQk for Colonel Bleep on DVD
music too loud, please lower I can't hear you
Much ado about nothing. It always seemed to me that the Waldo books were based on a European sensibility, which is sometimes "scandalous" in the U.S., but really shouldn't be .
We had a restaurant in Tulsa that let you order by phone at the table. But if I remember correctly, it was called Ma Bell's, a much more obvious name. I don't know when it got started, but it was still in operation until the mid to late 90s.
Nightmare fuel. It’s the eyes for me.
This is what I watch UA-cam for--answering questions that nobody wants answers to!
It’s made by group 935, duh.
I've always wanted a Musical Jolly Chimp. They're so expensive on ebay, so I've never gotten one. 😢
50 bucks is ridiculous for that freak of nature
I had Colonel Bleep on DVD.
I used to have one of these. Shit was awesome.
The 102 Dalmations game music in the background was giving me flashbacks to a darker time 😟 namely the time one of the kids my mum looked after abandoning the game on that level and the music looping over and over and over and over…. like a… monkey… with a… miniature cymbal… It’s all coming full circle! What does it mean?! 😶
funny monkey, haha
It came from Hell
My grandparents had a bellhop monkey pottery lol
No one created the Cymbal Monkey. It simply manifested itself into existence.
Rock and Roll Martian!
Thank you so much for this. I remember watching Colonel Bleep (on black and white).
i unlocked the cymbal monkey in black ops 6 and cant use it, please help
> The intro clocks on all of the Colonel Bleep episodes have stuck in my head for 60 years.
The fact that no one knows who designed it makes me feel like it spawned straight from hell or was let loose in the human world by a mischievous mythical creature
This just goes to show you that we are in a Dark Ages 2.0 compared to 70 years ago.
You omitted the CBS system and the competing systems between NBC and CBS. And while Colonel Bleep was available in 1957, it took two years to go into syndication. While Hanna-Barbera's first entry, RUFF N' REDDY premiered in December 1957, it was in black and white, but was broadcast in color nine months later in1958. And while Colonel Bleep was filmed in color, local television stations broadcast it in black and white.
My only question is... Why.....
This is fascinating. I came across your channel by chance and im really enjoying it so far.
