What is Religion?
The psychologist Carl Jung once wrote "the religious function is an essential component of the psyche and is found always and everywhere, however undifferentiated it may be.'' Therefore, when discussing the nature of religion the first thing to note is that it is not simply an artefact of human inventiveness, a creation of the mind. Instead, it is a naturally occurring function of the psyche, that is, it is something inherent to the soul.
Jung’s research revealed that religious feelings and ideas are one of the primary forms through which the psyche expresses itself and has always expressed itself. Evidence of religious activity stretches far back into our prehistoric past, as far as our Neanderthal ancestors and likely even further.
This evidence includes ancient burial sites where bodies have been found buried in a ritual manner, together with tools, personal possessions, and even animals, suggesting belief in a soul separate from, and which survived, the body. This belief in the separateness of body and soul is not just a relic of the past. Recent studies in the cognitive sciences have shown that children have an inborn tendency to form such a belief. As the religious scholar Reza Aslan declares, “That means that we enter the world with an innate sense - untaught, unforced, unprompted - that we are more than just our physical bodies.” All of this lends support to Jung’s fundamental insight: Human beings are, by nature, religious beings.

    Zen as Science・・・ my hypothesis. Japanese Zen js a philosophy about life and nature. Who am I? it's obvious. I can answer confidently. What is myself? I can't answer confidently. For true ZEN prctitioners, it’s the most serious and important purpose to find that. So' let me show you my hypothesis. Myself is unknown something, isn’t mortal, repeat physical lives. It’s myself that gave my physical lives birth into this world, my parents only helped that. All my physical lives are mortal, don't recogunize each other usually. All physical lives leave somethig (spiritual?) after their death. Every physical life has some influence on following lives. All physical lives have some influence on myself, then, my present destiny is not free from unrecokcgnized preceding lives of myself. miself=S(Σalllpreceedig lives of myself.) milife=L(miself, Σalllpreceedig lives of myself) What are these function S, L? Whoever intersted in this hypothesis, look at my blog below. Insightful summary🙏 The idea of rebirth is found in some schools of zen. Perhaps thought of us as energy which can dissipate when we shuffle off this mortal coil, or that energy can be more aligned, coherent, retain aspects eg through practices such as meditation which can bring a stillness, a calm, insight and awareness.

    Being is equal parts Thinking, and Doing. All Animation in the universe is Opposites conspiring Together. This is not Good and Evil, this is the Harmony of Life. You walk putting one foot in front of the other, one goes forward, the other goes back. You swim by waving your arms apart outward, then pulling them back in together. All of Nature behaves this way. I was raised in a Western tradition. I understand Christianity and the way of Rational Thought. What I am coming to realize is that the difference between East and West is that the West Loves the Creator, but Neglects the Creation. The East Loves Creation, but Neglects the Creator... These two things have to be Reconciled... The East NEEDS to come to Jesus and embrace the CREATOR. Christians need to stop being blind, and understand the CREATION. So now im on the journey of doing. I am well on the way of thinking, now I must do...

      Jesus said: You are the Creator. 'I Am the Son of God'. 'I and the Father Are One'. The speech and life of Jesus seems to me One with Eastern Wisdom. The Church, an exercise in suppression and distortion of His being? Veneration and worship of the Crucifix the first, and most obvious give-away.

As for the Crucifix, first you have understand what it represents in very tangible terms. its clear to me that you dont. do some research on salvation and resurrection.

    I don’t know where all of these videos about zen try to present it as not a religion and that rituals and rites play no part. Zen teaches the same cosmology as any other sect of Buddhism aside from the secular Buddhists in the west. Zen teaches the karmic rebirth of the 6 realms of existence that a being is reborn into before they escape samsara. Chan/Seon/Thien/Zen is very ritualistic. Ritual, rites and chanting all play an important role in zen. You’re all regurgitating the same nonsense. Step foot into a temple or zen center and experience it first hand before spewing nonsense like this.

    • @ElFerna182
      @ElFerna182 Рік тому

      I practice zen for about 13 years and not even once my master mentioned rebirth, karma, or anything related to that. I guess there are a lot of Zen styles. I tend to believe that zen focuses far less on rituals and writen teachings, and much more in practice of zazen. Even though when we practice in the zendo we chant the heart sutra and all of that. Shunryu Suzuki said maybe zen it´s not a religion, since it doesn´t depend in dogma o doesn´t talk about god... or maybe it´s a religion previous to religion ;)

    • @BS0L0
      @BS0L0 Рік тому

      @@ElFerna182 Zen is a generic term in the west for Chan. Chan spread from China to Korea (where it became seon) and Vietnam (where it became known as thien). From Korea it spread to Japan and this is where the zen pronunciation came from. In all of these countries where chan is practiced ritual is important and practiced daily. Are they necessary to for one to practice chan/zen? Absolutely not. But to make an assertion that it’s rituals aren’t important and play no part is ludicrous.

    I was devoted christian for over 25 years and did it with my whole heart and all the might I could muster. I was quite good at appearing to be a good, happy Christian as I assumed everyone else was doing the same. I couldn't and still don't understand why it worked for them but not me no matter what I did or how hard I tried. Now I have discovered that the Bible has lots of changes and additions, not to mention all the missing books that were recently found that drastically change the message I have lost faith in humanity also. Not to mention a God that could have kept the book pure if desired. I have no idea now what to believe in and I guess it doesn't really matter because it doesn't work for me anyway. It just seems like we should be angry at whatever or whoever put us in this human experience. In my opinion the plan sucks and there is a lot more pain and suffering in this world than need be. And to have to be certain kind of person with just the right kind of faith to be able to get any kind of relief is deplorable to me. 😢

    I'm often given to profoundly disagree with Jung. The man dabbled in scientific inquiry as he scrutinized what is man always with a mind to psychology, given his training. However, the earliest fount of much of his work remains corroded by vague appeals to mysticality and ineffability. Never once did he consider, I fear, that language would do. The result is an undermining of otherwise noble investigation and explication. This was a great video, even if Jung was assuredly not a scientist of the same distinction.

    Enlightenment seekers, here's the deal from a very old monk. Two steps: 1) Understand the concept of Sunyata, translated as Emptiness of all phenomena, conceptually and intellectually. 2) Realize the consequences of Emptiness psychologically until it sinks into your unconscious. You will then be liberated without having to think about it or notice it. It may take seconds or decades, usually the latter. Everything else, although potentially helpful, is irrelevant.
