Everything in Japan is just a little bit short of half the price just because of the yen, but lots of things are also cheaper anyway, possibly due to differing patterns of government subsidies, culture etc for example, to get to the capital city of my island from the other end, it costs about 15 to 40 pounds depending on how fast a train you choose. In the UK that costs 150 pounds to go from halfway up! 100 yen is about 60p now, and 60p in the UK gets you like two Freddos (very tiny candy bars) Even outside of textile districts, craft stuff in Japan is CHEAP and PLENTIFUL. In fact, all hobby stuff is much more easily available than in the UK. People are allowed to like things here in Japan haha
Hi Amy can you please tell me what being a member of your channel gets
Sure thing! At the base level (tackers) you get loyalty badges, live chats and priority comments. The next level (basters) you get all the previous perks plus Member shout-outs, Photos and status updates, Members-only live streams and extra Online Shop Discounts. One day I hope to add early access to videos but I think we all know I'm not that organised...
I'd like to add that free items can be gifted through local 'Buy Nothing' groups. I recently put a call out for denim and received about 6 pairs of no longer wearable jeans to refashion. I was also gifted some doillies and a beautiful, though stained, white Indian style flowing dress that I'm going to try tea dyeing. Thanks for your channel Amy, it's great. I'm in WA, love Melbourne. ❤️
@@ActivistAustralian fantastic suggestion, absolutely yes! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge ♥️♥️♥️♥️
When he said half a day, I was just laughing. Like Nooo. There’s more than the main road. There are good stores in the back streets as well. I agree that one day would probably be spent just the main tomato. The one beside it is Tomato arch shop is where they have ALL discounted fabric, most of them are ¥100 per metre. I can easily spend half a day there.
@@jeenah2956 right?! Half a day!!!! Lol!!!! I think I could spend a week, maybe longer 😍😍😍

Alrighty...booking a trip to Japan then! 😍Amazing husband you got also! Thanks Michael! 😃
I wonder if in Nippori Fabric Town there is a place to buy inexpensive rolling luggage to carry all my purchases, because I'm only bringing one rolling suitcase and one big backpack.
I'll ask michael and get back to you. I know he bought a suitcase over there
Its because they have a great train system hence not many cars.
Would it be possible to see wool and cottons from Japan in future videos? I love anything Clover makes.

Thanks for making this video! I appreciate that you pointed out that the front pattern piece is bigger than the back. I was attempting to clone a simple dress that flatters my plus size figure. Only I realized that the front piece becomes gradually bigger than the back just below the bust line, so the original dress doesn’t lay flat. I pinched up the ‘difference’ and saw that it begins at 1/2 inch bigger and becomes 3 inches more by the hem. I am confused because I can follow the seam line to trace the back pattern piece, but don’t know how to incorporate the extra fabric of the front. I think the reason I like this dress is that extra fabric…lol! I also wanted to thank you for the tip about pinning the flounce to the top portion first and THEN gathering!
Such an awesome travel sewing roll. I like the way you showed your planning process. Thanks for sharing. 😃

That shirt you're wearing in the intro is soooo cute!! What is that type of bodice called?
@@cklein907 ooh good question, honestly I'm not sure, maybe a panelled front bodice? This is the Duplantier Dress/top from Elbe textiles and is my favourite pattern ever!
@@amyofmelbourne Oooooommgggg!! Yes, that's the best news ever! Thank you! I will for sure be making one for myself.
It's super reassuring and validating to me when so many alterations need to be made. Unfond memories of school sewing classes where if a garment didn't fit it was always my fault, not that the pattern wasn't my shape
@@dawnmoriarty9347 yeah I had that same struggle for years!!! Watching costuming and historic recreation costuming helped me so much (lady Rebecca and Nicole Rudolph especially) they focus so much more on getting their individual fit rather than on the pattern itself

Fabulous video Amy. Thanks for showing my Teatime stall. You’re so brave camping in the cold.
You are so welcome Bali! Sad I couldn't say hi properly but you were so busy! I hope you had a glorious time! ❤️
Hi! I just subscribed to your channel. I'm a fellow Australian UA-cam podcaster and mine is about knitting. Do a search online for the Eucalyptus Dye Database by Sally Blake. While Eucalypts do dye brown, deep shades of rusty browns are beautiful and hard to come by from hand-dyers who seem to prefer wild colours. I'm in Melbourne for a conference today and if it wasn't for my excessively heavy luggage I would absolutely want to come by the dye store you recommend. I shall have to try them online.
Amazing!!! I will check out your podcast and the dye recommendation! Thanks!!!
This is what I was afraid of watching her video too, the way the sleeves and neckline would sit on my wide shoulders. Yeah ok.. Tapering them it is then.
@@karebear3152 I'm glad I could help ♥️♥️♥️
Hi, I had trouble getting onto your shop page as your link isnt working. Realised its because the 'e' in 'thecraeftywitch' was omitted, just thought I'd mention it. Enjoyed the video, was informative, thanks.
Ooh thank you, I will fix it up now ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Well that was great Amy! What an adventure! And what wonderfully good spirits you maintained through out. I had a ball seeing all the other parts of the show I don’t get to see. Thanks so much Amy for your great video ❤ it’s the first one of yours that I’ve watched 😊 I’ve often wondered what the show is like and you answered lots of my questions! I’ll certainly be checking out lots of the stall holders and their websites - many thanks from Elizabeth in Hobart 😊
@@elizabethrutledge8182 that's awesome, thanks so much for taking the time to watch! ♥️♥️♥️
Oo your yarns turned out pretty! I've been playing with ice dying on clothes and it's so fun and addicting.❤
It's so fun! It feels like it's own gateway craft, first you tie dye, then ice dye, and all of a sudden your researching mandalas 🤣
Looking forward to seeing more of your dying adventures! I don't dye yarn but I find the process super interesting, and I do really enjoy chemknits' videos. I am particularly interested in your idea of a dye garden that is suited to the australian climate but also conscious of not using invasive species. hopefully you can find some great resources! i am not a gardener myself so can't offer any advice. I have bought naturally dyed yarn from Nomad Farms in the past - they are south australian based and all of their yarns are naturally dyed.
That's a fantastic suggestion, thank you! I love watching dye videos too, the transformation is always so fascinating! Thanks for watching ♥️
The best coverage of The Sheep Show. I couldn't be there this year. You nailed it 👍👍
Awe thank you so much!!!!
@@amyofmelbourne I moped around the house all weekend, because I couldn't go. But I don't know how you fitted all that in 2 days. I stop talking and catching up with friends. Even some farmers I know.
@@jygood3718 one of the great parts of being super introverted is that I can get around a show pretty quick, deciding which yarn to actually buy however, that definitely took the whole 2 days and I'm still dreaming about some of the ones I didn't grab 🤣
@@amyofmelbourne Yes, I understand that.
Bendigo WOW! All that yarn for spinning, knitting, amd crochet. A happy experience seeing all the beautiful colors. And sheep and a dog trial, too. And raw fiber to tempt the spinners. HEAVEN.
@@deweygraham2432 and that's why we call it #spendigo 😂 so many lovely things!!!!! Thanks for watching ♥️
I use a lightweight umbrella swift (it is a bit wobbly but it works) to wind yarn into skeins. The one I have has a little handle on the top so you can spin it. I set it up so it is almost at a 90 degree angle. I have tried a sturdy wooden swift but you cannot change the angle and there is too much friction to freely wind. Good luck with your dyeing project, that green color is gorgeous (and I've done that to myself too! 😆).
wow just found your chanel and what fun to see the wool show and you are epic as well
Thanks and welcome, that is very kind of you to say 😁
Thank you Amy for your video showing us around the Sheep and Wool Show. As a vendor I don’t get to see most of the Show, but your video made me feel as though I got out and about. So glad that you survived the weather, it was one of the most changeable and challenging years: wet, windy and cold (but no defrosting the windscreen this year!) 😊💖
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video! I can imagine it would be impossible, I spent 2 days there and still missed heaps so working and seeing it would be impossible
@@amyofmelbourne I really miss watching the sheep dog trials 😊
@@jamboyjr it's so good, I wish I could have watched more but the weather wasn't with me on this day. Have you seen the tv show Muster Dogs? It's one of my comfort shows

Thank you! I'll have a look for one
Thanks Amy for walking around the show. Loved it when I went a few years ago but ill health etc etc I haven’t been back. Good to see how many people were there and so many people I’ve bought from. Thanks again😊

Thankyou for showing us, you've inspired me to want to attend next year's show & l will drag along a friend who also loves to knit. We love all the fibres & amazing colours. Blown away by how big the expo was, why have I never been before??? Crazy. Might have to be an annual trip. Again thanks for sharing & all the names which helps.. I live in a very small regional area - Sale and closet woolshop which I am grateful for is Rosedale & we go there often for supplies, aww & arrr at what the owner is creating. Also nice shop in Traralgon & next good one would be Drouin but bit of a drive for me, unless going that way then easy to make a pit stop. But always nice to know of other shops for different colours. We might need to make a trip to Bendigo as I've been told by a local here that there wool shop is awesome with great selection of different fibres & colours. We only have spotlight in Sale for wool which they have now stopped stocking sock wool! Blasphemy I say.... might even go online & have a sqiz. Cheers have a great weekend ahead. 😊 ❤
@@leighthornthwaite911 first of all, definitely head online for some sock wool, there is so many! Second, I think you have outlined my next crafty roadtrip, thank you!!!! I'm originally from near Shepparton so I totally get what you mean about the lack of nearby physical stores, let alone ones that stock indie brands. Thanks for watching and for the recommendations 💚
As a fellow sock obsessive with a similar propensity for second sock syndrome, I’ve found that knitting two at a time is the best way to get around it… I’m not into magic loop, much prefer a 25cm circular or even dpns, so I just have two identical sets of needles, split the skein into two balls rather than one, and literally do each step on one sock then the other. Overall it takes a bit longer to see the payoff but when you get to the end of one, all you should have left to do on the other is the toe! Huge game changer.
@@Musicat806 I'm currently using magic loop but I think I still prefer my dpns, Ill try your tip for the next pair and see if it helps, thanks so much!
@@amyofmelbourne may the sock gods be ever at your heels! If you’re interested in trying tiny circulars, I reckon the best ones are KnitPro Symfonie, the Nova ones are also not bad if you don’t mind a metal needle. I usually use 2.5mm because I am quite a tight knitter at sock gauge, but they do them in all sizes.
