I have always shied away from shirring. Thanks Amy for your enlightening and informative (as always!) video 💜 I am tempted to give it a go now.

I've been sewing for almost 45 years now and had no idea i could make that fabric myself with a machine. I thought i had to keep doing it by hand. Thank you!

I learnt about shirring when I wore and sewed the Japanese street fashion Lolita. Shirring in either the bust or waist (or both)is an absolute staple in those dress designs to get around the one size fits all problem of japanese sizes, and to provide extra space for the many layers the fashion involves. And just for comfort in general even if you easily fit in the standard small japanese size. It also can be a design choice, some dresses look really pretty with a full bodice of shirring the entire way around.

@@hooray4pie145 I LOVE Lolita fashion, I could never afford a dress back when it was super popular but I still want to try my hand at making one ♥️

Great tutorial Amy, I haven’t heard of winding the bobbin firmly, I’m going to do some testing to see what my machine likes best, thanks Deb

@@dbdesignsandsewingaustrali5668 thanks for watching! It was so strange when I got a new machine, I had to do so much trial and error to work out that the elastic tension was the issue.

I have been sewing over 50 years now and I have never hand wound the bobbin! Used a Brother mechanical machine, now a computerised Brother sewing and embroidery machine and never had a problem! Sometimes you just have faith in your machine!

This looks so cute! Ruching looks so good in all the garments, and especially interesting to see in the traditional plaid, tweed and other patterned fabrics. Blessings! from Canada 🇨🇦
