Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909). A couple of weeks ago, I decided to try playing with no nails on my right hand. It has been rough going since then, but I finally have a short piece that I can play well enough to post publicly. Right now, I am happiest with the sound I can get from my ring finger, so my playing here makes heavy use of that finger for the melody line. Let me know what you think.

      Thank you, Juan. It's part of a set of three preludes that were published as a second edition in 1971, but I think at the bottom of this first prelude I can read the date 1954, so I would guess that is the date of the first edition. I could only find a few facts about the composer, but it seems that one of her guitar teachers was Maria Luisa Anido, and she studied composition with none other than Alberto Ginastera.

I've actually had a lute for a few months now and I've been trying hard to embrace the thumb inside technique and everything. It's quite different than I expected but I really do like it. Been very busy lately so haven't been able to grab a recording - hopefully soon.

    • @ericphillips7057
      @ericphillips7057 28 днів тому

      Thanks for listening! I would say the renaissance lute is comparable in difficulty to learning classical guitar. I've been playing it for a couple years now, but this summer I am being a bit more intentional about it. The left hand technique is virtually the same, but the right hand is challenging. My right hand technique is still very much in progress. I am also sorting out the issue what I want to do about fingernails. I much prefer the sound of the lute without nails, but having played guitar with nails for many decades, I don't want to give them up completely. First world problems, I suppose. 😀
