Hello and welcome!
My plan is to dedicate this channel mostly to fountain pens, drawing with ink and showcasing the fountain pens that I make.
I might also start reviewing dip pens, pencils, some art supplies or even ball point pens if I get the opportunity to do so - but my main focus will be reviewing, making and drawing with fountain pens.
I am planning to upload at least 1 video per week, specifically on Saturday at 12:00 pm EST plus additional "Shorts" showcasing the fountain pens that I make sprinkled throughout the week.
GIVEAWAY
Planning to do giveaways with the fountain pens that I am making whenever I will be reaching 500 and 1000 subscribers. So please subscribe if you want to have the chance of winning one of my fountain pens.
If you need to contact me, see "Details" section below.
Thank you and I wish you a wonderful day or night, wherever you are!

HongDian H3 fountain pen
Felt like the right thing to do after the MUJI video from last week is to follow up with its little brother the HongDian H3 fountain pen.

Making BE6 fountain pens - part 1
Переглядів 11214 годин тому
Finally got around to put together the first part of how I am making my fountain pens - by not so popular demand, at the request of a few of my viewers. So here is part 1... from a bird eye view... long and probably boring... sprinkled with some comments here and there trying to describe what I am doing. In this part I am cutting the blanks, drilling, tapping, making threads and turning the raw...

Sailor F-9 desk fountain pen

A pretty cool desk fountain pen. Like most good things coming from Japan, a simple, clean and functional design that is maybe a little understated. Had some issues with the ink flow - because of the ink or maybe converter, but no fault on the actual fountain pen. Overall, love it :). Hero (!?) Ox Horn fountain pen

A very unique and interesting fountain pen from my perspective. Not 100% sure that this is actually made by the Hero brand (hence the question mark in the title). Nevertheless it is a pretty well made and fun fountain pen that I did enjoy using. Photo Session Pt.2 - Breakdown and photoshoot with final pictures
I picked up one very recently and noticed perhaps some differences. The carbon, although small, is actual carbon. It is very similar to the carbon in the interior of a Porsche (non-matte version). This is easy to perceive in the sunlight where it has a brownish grey contrast to the black parts of the weave. Also, the cap does not feel rubbery, but rather plastic. The grip still feels perhaps rubbery and I'm hoping it will endure over time -- I had a battery bank that was coated in similar anti-slip rubberized plastic and it is gummy to the touch as you mentioned). The nib on mine is a Broad nib and writes buttery smooth. I cannot however store a second cartridge in mine (or it's jammed with a second blank one that usually comes in Faber castell). Weird this Essentio came with a blank cartridge and no spare cartridges unlike my Hexo.
The cap feels rubberized - it is plastic yes, but it is covered in a rubber like coating. That coating over time tends to get mushy and sticky. That is the issue that I am having with mine. I have worked with carbon fibber a few times in my life and I also wrapped cars with vinyl wrap - I can tell you that some companies can make a pretty convincing vinyl wrap that mimics carbon pretty well. Usually looking at the edge of it is what gives it away. Vinyl will always be very sharp - carbon will tend to fray a little, especially weaved CF. On this one, I could be wrong, but based on the edge that I see on it is too sharply cut, almost vinyl like. Again, I could definitely be wrong, the only way to know for sure is to break it apart and see how is built. Something that I am not willing to do with a perfectly working fountain pen :D.
The construction errors are disappointing. I love the Black Forest pen they make. It was one of the first ones I bought. The ink provides a good enough glow to add depth to the drawing. Looks like a dark scene in a horror movie where you don't get the best look at the the baddie but enough to give you the chills. I like it.
Black Forest is not a bad fountain pen at all. I have one as well. My little one made me buy her a rainbow version for her birthday - she loves it as well. If it give you the chills I guess something was accomplished :D - thanks Pete!
Thank you for recording that. Always interesting to see how things are made.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Im a big fan of Hongdian. Great pens for an affordable price. That pen is too thin for me. Great review as always.
Thank you! :)
Eugen, thanks for sharing this wonderful "making" video. A small suggestion - on screen display of tool size and measurements (for e.g 9mm drill bit, 75 mm depth) would be of a great help. Eagerly waiting for the next part. Thanks again.
Thanks for the suggestion. The problem with showing the actual sizes that I am using is that they only fit my fountain pens and design. So unless you plan to do the exact fountain pens I am making, you are going to have to do your own measurements and use your own drill bit sizes that fit your design. Basically, the measurements are not universal - is based on the design that you have. I can share the measurements I am using, that is not the problem for me, but I don't see how it will help with your design since you still need to do you own plans.
@@eugenborcan Yes, quite agree - the length and girth of the parts (Cap, Section, Barrel) may vary according to design, but there are some measurements which we can copy or refer, like internal diameters and drill depths, which are more likely to be unchanged for a specific tap/die setups, nib units or filling system.
I always find the creation process interesting. Thanks for showing us how you create these. 👍🏻
Thanks for watching Pete! :)
very interesting, thank you for recording and sharing! 🙏
My pleasure!
I’ve been wanting to see your process for a while. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry for being late with it - I hope you enjoyed it! :)
Thank you for putting this out! I've been starting down my path of making custom pens with rollerballs, and it's awesome seeing others' processes. I think I remember you saying in a previous video that you cast your own blanks, as well. What resin(s) do you use for that, and do you pressure cast them? I've been doing my own epoxy blanks, since I do not have a pressure setup for urethane like Alumilite Clear Slow, but I haven't been super happy with how it takes threads or polishes compared to the acrylics I've worked with so far.
I hope you were able to pick up something useful from it :D. I know the video is not the best quality, but this is my first time trying to take a video outside my more serious setup that I use for my regular videos. I will try and make more videos in the future - if people ask - and break down things even more with hopefully more close up shots - if I get a good setup in place. Bottom line, I hope that at least you were able to pick up some useful information and that not everything was pointless in the video :D :). For resin, I am using Deep Pour Casting & Art Epoxy (2:1) resin made by MagicResin - a Canadian company. Is a little cheaper than the Alumilite for me since is basically a local company almost (especially on shipping since is free within Canada). It takes about 3 days to cure to the point I can handle it, but I leave it additional 3 days after removing it from the molds. I still pressure cast them during those initial 3 days, even though is a slow curing process. The way I work with it is a little bit different... So basically this resin has a 6 hours working time. I usually mix the colors in separate containers and then leave them to rest for 5 hours. This gives it some time to partially cure and becomes more like gelatine and if I have to mix other things that I want in it with heavier particles is perfect state. Also when I mix the colors they will stay separated after the 5 hours mark - based on my conditions and tests. But because I pour them so late there might not be enough time for all the bubbles to come out and as such I still put the blanks under pressure to be on the safe side. I'm a slow person :D and I don't like the 40 or 60 minute work times... too stressful :D. I tried a lot of other resins but for me this one has worked the best - also the smell/fumes it produces are considerable less than Alumilite for example. MagicResin has considerable lower VOC and Odor - to me at least and my nose :D. But, as everything, that is my experience and what works for me and my work flow. Might not work for you or your needs.
@@eugenborcan Thank you so much for such a detailed reply, I appreciate it! I have been using some "normal" casting epoxy resin with the 40-60 min working time, and I get what you mean about feeling rushed sometimes. I have definitely gathered some good info from this, and it's great seeing an unedited video to get a good idea of where I'm at in terms of the speed and efficiency of my process. I've been struggling a bit with getting a glassy polish like your pens, but I'm not sure if that's down to the compounds/techniques I'm using or the material itself that I've been working with. I'm looking forward to your next video and seeing your process there! Best regards!
It might be just technique when it comes to sanding/polishing. That is one area that I am pretty decent at - I have previous experience in sanding and polishing from working on cars (that was another hobby of mine) - so I might have more helpful information in there for you. As a fun fact - for me at least - the sanding and polishing process takes just as long as cutting, drilling, tapping and turning a fountain pen. It is that involved... for me at least.
@@eugenborcan Yeah, I have a feeling I'm either rushing a bit, or just doing something a little bit wrong. I've definitely been putting some time into it, but possibly not enough. Can't wait for the next one!
Great calm video! For how much did you buy this pen?
Thanks - I got it about a year ago and paid around $68 CAD.
I've never seen anyone demonstrate the balance of a pen, like that. Very interesting review.
Thank you - glad you enjoyed it!
Always fascinating what comes out of your drawings! It's very relaxing to watch, the filler itself is a bit narrow for me, but kind of pretty 😊
Thank you - glad to hear you enjoy watching them! 💗
I've never tried this pen, as popular as it is. I might one day. The drawing looks great. What is that little guy holding in his hand? Looks like a blade or ice pick of some sort. Lol. I like the straggly scribbles around the outside, it makes it look more grounded. Nice work! 👍🏻
If you ever get the chance, give it a try, is not a bad fountain pen. As for the little guy and what is holding in his hand... don't worry about it... just go to sleep ;) :D. Might be something pocky and pointy :D. Thanks Pete!
Ganglion with alien figure? Quite imaginative!
Thank you!
Rotring, for people that like to spend a lot of time cleaning their pens....Just get a decent fountain pen.
Not sure what you mean by that... doesn't take long to clean. Is quite a simple fountain pen. Is a decent pen in itself - but in the end each person has their own preferences and that is OK.
Nice pen and a very interesting ink. It gave the drawing another dimension and I really like it. Nice work.
Thanks Pete - it did give it something that is for sure :).
Great, honest review.
Thanks! :)
Nice drawing of Edward scissors hands space style.
That made me chuckle a little - well put! :) Thanks!
V helpful review! I’ve been appreciating my steel-body Wingsung 601s recently, lovely to use and hold. And as bonus we get here some inspiration on a v cool drawing technique to try out with our pens ❤
The 601 is a pretty cool version from WingSung as well - especially the metal body. Thank you!

I have two days with my first fountain pen Pilot Prera.
Congrats - hope you like it!
The Prera was always available in solid colors in Japan. Its just North America only received demonstrator colors.
Thank you for that info - I was not aware of it.
Lazy water Maybe meant to be still water. As in a peaceful pond
You are probably right! :)
Nice pen and a great choice of ink. It's one of my favorites. The drawing fits the ink well. Nice work!
Thanks Pete! :)
My favorite ink! Combining it with such a cool pen is very "metal🤘". SOUL OF AN OX would be a fitting title for the awesome scribble!
That is a pretty darn good name! 😃💗
Don't get me wrong but as much as I like this material I do hope it's made of "waste".
I know what you mean! Chances are quite high that they are made of "waste". If you search for Ox horn you will find a lot of objects made out of this material. My assumption is that all of them are coming from places where meat is processed. So basically, ethically sourced.
Nice drawing
Thanks!
Hey there I have wide a new pen named pilot 823 custom please review it
If I ever get one, I will...
Nice looking pen. I think the accent looks good. I enjoyed the bird. It looks like it was carved out of wood. Nice work!
You are right... chiselled like apiece of wood :D. Thanks!
Thanks to review pilot Metropolitan it's my first expensive pen of my expensive pen collection🥲🥲🥲🥲
Nothing wrong with that! :) Thanks for your view!!
I have a Black one and I love it. Great pen really affordable. Great review.
Thank you! :)
You're killing me!! I'm absolutely thrilled with the 2 new colors, they're just divine!! BTW: The blue one should be called "Universe in Hand". 😇😍 But the nib holders (dip pens) are also just amazing! I fell in love with them straight away! What I would also find interesting would be a dip pen that you could screw a complete size #8 triple into. A dip pen with a large bouncy nib that also holds plenty of ink would really fill a gap in the market. At least for those who write more than they draw (except for monochrome drawings).
Thank you! "Universe in hand" is a good name too! Like I said in the video, I am working on an idea for these dip pens - I am waiting for some parts that are coming from China, but the shipping is slow so it might take me a while until I can make a in more depth video about them. Don't want to say too much about it right now :). Attaching nib units to this style of pen is another idea as well but, I have some other plans for something on that regard too... and that might take me longer...
Finally a fountain pen that I can have a say about. I have it in the version that is most similar to the Montblanc 149. So in black with a round top and the vertically striped ink window. Mine also has an "F" nib. I won't be posting a review video for at least 2 weeks, as things aren't going well for me at the moment. But I can already say: I'm absolutely thrilled with what WingSung/Junlai has brought back onto the market. Quite simply: The affordable alternative to the MB 149 or, to put it another way, the better Jinhao X159. I can only recommend it!
I agree, this fountain pen is easily one of their best and from all the China pen manufactures, probably the best copy of the MB - not that I would personally know, because I do not have the MB version. But, with the copy aside and just looking at the fountain pen for what it is, it is a very well built one. As usual... I wish speedy recovery and nothing but good health my friend.
Jinhao 35 or jinhao 82 which is good..
From my experience, both are pretty decent. Maybe the Jinhao 82 has a slightly better built quality (hence the higher-ish price on them). In the end both of them are fairly affordable and if you can, buy one of each and see which one you like best. The 35 is metal and longer, the 82 is plastic and more pocketable. Duds exist on both sides.
Metal body or acrylic which is good..
@@Deliriouswayfarer Honestly, is a matter of what you prefer as material for your fountain pen. A metal version will always be more sturdy but will be heavier and colder to the touch. Acrylic is not as sturdy as metal so dropping it might result in a broken fountain pen but, is lighter and warmer to the touch.
Those colors are very nice. I like that deep blue especially.
Thanks! :)
is there a link to this?
This is the store where I got it from - no affiliation: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003515227067.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.74.21ef1802yKx2zx
The nib is blocked and needs to be cleaned. This is a weakness of eye dropper feed method. You bypass the flush effect removes old residues.
Are you referring to the fact that the first nib that I had refused to work? The nib and feed was clean, there was no issue with the blockage. I think the issue is that somehow the nib and the feed do not contact properly for the capillary action to happen and for the ink to properly transfer from feed to the nib slits. I might have to heat set the feed with the nib to fix that issue.
Nice pens. Eagerly waiting for your pen making videos. I prefer detailed description of making each part. Thanks
Thank you - I will try and be as detailed as I can when I will release those videos.
That deep blue is beautiful. Nice work! 👍🏻
Thanks Pete! 👍
Ocean deep blue is amazing. My favorites are the Bloody kiwi and Verdifris gloss finish. Great job, good looking pens.
Thank you kindly! I had a feeling when I removed the blanks from the pot that it will be one of favourites for a lot of people.
Wow, the "deep blue" is beautiful 🥰 I could well imagine in my filler case 🤗 Great they are all, thanks for showing!
Thank you - and thank you for watching! 😉💗
Oh Susi... Why do we always have the same opinion about Eugen's wonderful works?
Also…what converter is needed for this pen? Thank you 🙏🏽 😊
This fountain pen specifically can only fit a Pilot CON-40 converter.
I have opportunity to buy one of these and your video convinced me I will enjoy this one! Very nice line and I love your drawing 😊 Thank you !
Happy to hear you enjoy it! :) Thank you!
My Wing Sung 630 posts perfectly. No issues since I received it a few months ago. It has a lovely big steel nib that is a joy to use. I like this pen so much, I purchased a black one to pair with my blue. Nice scribble!
That's good to know that some 630 do post. Mine probably has some defect or something.
Yet another pen that I would love to try but would be too big for me. It is hard for me to go above 14mm diameter in pens. Glad to see you liking yours with all the issues fixed. I'm curious, since you are able to turn your bespoke pens, are your able to create different body parts for your existing pens? Say a barrel with those arcylics of yours? Lazy ink is 懒人墨水. Lazy person ink, as the brand. Nothing much there really, the Chinese brands like messing around with their naming with what they think see fit. For example, 金豪, jinhao, is gold luxury.
Yeah, it sucks... but there are other similar pens that are pretty good I would say - like the Moonman P136. I can definitely make body parts for fountain pens. The problem is getting the proper thread to match with the pens. Sometimes companies get weir tap/dies combos that is hard to find or expensive to get. As long as I have the tap and die, is not an issue. Thanks for the translations! :)
i love all your content. learning about new pens is always very interesting, and your “scribbles” are actually beautiful works of art that i’m very sure you could sell, and/or make prints to sell, maybe somewhere like Etsy. anyway keep doing what you’re doing, i’ll keep liking every video and hopefully the algorithm finds you a bigger audience soon. ✌️
Thank you - I am glad to hear you enjoy my videos and my silly drawings. ✌💗
Nice pen. I love the texture in the finished drawing. Really nice. I would have loved to see how that first try turned out if you finished rendering it. I like the motion in it.
Same... I'll probably revisit the idea in the future. Sometimes, in the moment though, you just don't connect with things and is hard to realize what you have in front of you. I should get in the habit to put things that I don't connect with in the moment aside, rather than ignore it, and have a look at it again at a later time.
@@eugenborcan I get it. Sounds like a good idea. 👍🏻
Wow what a drawing it's very nice and the pen is also very beautiful❤❤❤
Thank you! Cheers!
I have it on my cart for a while now but didn't make the move yet. Not sure it posts well, I d like to post my pens.
I understand that. Posting sometimes is good. With that said though, from my perspective, that is the only downside of it.
Sounds like some can be posted - mine seems to have an issue with it. So it could be a hit an miss situation.
@@eugenborcan Mine doesn't post either. This seems to be a matter where the tolerance range is only a few tenths of a millimeter.
Good to know is not only mine then - thanks for letting me know!
ouuuu, it might be cool to have a matte grip on the shiny pen and vice versa! I love that orance black sparkle one, gorgeous !
That would work as well. If someone would want that setup they can always ask and I can provide. Thank you - the orange and black is one of my favourites as well.
