    Hi Eugene,
I have a little idea regarding dip pens:
How about making a dip pen that has a friction fit feed with a matching nib (e.g. size #6 or size #8)??
I'm just pointing this out because a feed could hold more ink and allow you to draw/write longer with it than with a bare dipped nib.
A Zebra G nib could also be used in a version with a size #6 feed.
And if you only or predominantly want to write with it, you could use a size #8 feed and a corresponding steel nib (e.g. from Jinhao, Bock, etc.), as they have a little more "bounce" than size #6 nibs.
You could also decide afterwards if you wanted to replace the plastic feed with one made of ebonite or vice versa.
A plastic feed would be more suitable for holding ink, as it usually holds more ink.

Is a good suggestion and I actually have thought about it for a while... but then I got to the conclusion that probably is not worth it. It can be done... but should it be done?
If I do this, then the user is limited only to the use of fountain pen nibs. In this case anyone can just use a regular desk fountain pen as a dip fountain pen (I actually know of people that are using their desk stands with desk fountain pens just like that, as a dip pen).
Also if I build this, then the only nibs that can be used with it are the NIKKO G or ZEBRA G or similar styles - any other specialty dip nibs will just not work with a fountain pen feed setup. Also a lot of specialty dip nibs are coming with their own "reservoirs" setup.
You bring a good point, but I don't think there is a market for it. And those who want it, then they just use their own fountain pens as dip pens. When I will make a specific video for my dip holders I will mention all this and show all kind of different nibs for them - it will be easier to understand then.
Good suggestion though, don't get me wrong, I just don't think there is an actual market for it.
If someone will specifically ask me to create something like that though, I can definitely do it as a custom order, not a problem.

    Oh god, they are BEAUTIFUL.
Few things to note on handmade pens, I'm not sure if you have tested them for:
    - Cap sealing (how long does nib stay wet without use?) my wing sung 699 can go without use for 1 whole year and still writes first time everytime. Even my platinum doesn't last that long with the same banmi ink.
    - threading (cross threads may happen)
    - Nib to cap contact (I've had a handmade pen where the nib directly makes contact with the cap liner (making it move everytime it uncap)
    - whether the material heat up the ink inside the pen (would cause leaking if pen body isn't thick enough)
Do they take bock threads as well?
My experience with hand made pens are lack luster due to above concerns. As machine pens offer more qc. Not saying yours is bad, and I certainly don't mind some inconsistencies in shape but functionality is more of a concern. Even my ranga, has issues with cap sealing and it gets pretty smelly if I ink it up, for the price I paid, I certainly did not expect that 😂
I'm afraid I might go broke getting these 🤣 cause I tend to get pen models in 3 colors (blue red and green) just because I like em.
Definitely like the blue ones so far.

      Thank you! :)
My fountain pens have none of the issues that you listed. I had fountain pens that I left them on the shelf for weeks and started right up when I used them. I don't know if ink type would matter... only able to test them with the inks that I have. But so far, with the pens I have tested and used, never had an issue.
But I also have to be honest and say that I don't use and test all of them.
No BOCK threads, but you can use BOCK nibs as long as you paired them with a regular straight profile feed. Like I am showing the "Chinese" nibs in this video. The collar is JOWO, but I could use any nibs that I want to basically - around 18:39 mark. Unfortunately I don't carry any BOCK nibs at this point in time.
Yes, they are hand made and there are going to be slight variations between them even though overall shape is the same - they would never be "machine perfect". But since I am working in small batches I can pay attention more to fit and fitment. The only issues I have from time to time is with cap posting. If I sand a little too much then the cap doesn't post as well. Otherwise, functionally is perfectly OK.
The resin that I am using doesn't really smell. All resins will have a smell regardless, but some are more stronger than others. I can't stand strong smelly resins either - that is one of the reasons why I am using a different company (Canadian company) that makes resins a little bit different than the one that is usually used with pen makers.
Strong smell of the resin from the fountain pen sometimes is also a sign that the blank when was made didn't cure 100% properly.
Don't spend your money unless you really have them!
And if you are ever able to, I will be honored and grateful.
      I stand behind my work!

I was actually planning to do one sometime during summer time - so, eventually I will, unless I forget again :D.
I wanted to do that since last year but somehow forgot about it.

That would work as well. If someone would want that setup they can always ask and I can provide.
Thank you - the orange and black is one of my favourites as well.

did you swap caps? Can they line up or no?

    • @eugenborcan
      @eugenborcan  6 місяців тому

No I did not swapped the caps. The threads have 3 starting points so it can line up in 3 different ways. Even so, there is never a 100% perfect alignment. But it will be close.
