The Embiid thing is so stupid. I have followed Embiids career since he was drafted in 2014. I haven't missed a Game that he's played in his entire career. Let me say this: Him missing these games in the regular season is EXACTLY what we need from him. Let me explain: He's been getting hurt all the time. He's now in his 30's. He's not getting younger. This is an effort to prolong his career, and ALSO to be healthy in the playoffs. Something he's been unable to do his entire career. I don't think you realize how real that is. Literally. He's not been healthy in any playoff games in his career. He's in his 30's, let that sink in. He needs to be healthy, and the regular season doesn't matter. He's gonna play 50 games in the regular season, and remain healthy for the playoffs. It's gonna be great, just you wait.

Patenting game mechanics is extremely frowned upon in the industry. the Shadow of Mordor games patented their nemesis system and they still get slammed for it to this day. It stifles creativity and progress and I always hate seeing it. I agree with Johnny about the precedent being set by the lawsuit.

Leaks are bad when the game is good. Leaks are good when the games are bad. We've had nearly 20 years of bad games with only a handful of good ones. The consumer needs to know where to apply their dwindling dollars so yes all for unfiltered information to come out.

Johnny twisting my words. I was saying that I rarely 100% agree with something. It’s usually more nuanced than that, but last episode I agreed with every single thing Cheezy said. Yes, I usually agree with Cheezy, but I don’t always agree with him 100% 🤣

Rarely would I say this but I agree with Cheezy 100% on this one. Crossovers used to be so impactful because they were rare, but now they’re so common that they’ve really lost their luster. Now a crossover happens and the most of a reaction I have now is “huh. neat.” Edit: Rainbow 6 Seige is a great example of collabs going to far and the game losing its identity.

Daddy can't stop in the middle of a dungeon. Johnny says I can't." But seriously though, that's ridiculous to say. As an adult (with no kids, to be fair) but with responsibilities, Echoes makes it awesome having all the save/travel points in the dungeon to allow me to come back to a spot in a dungeon if I need to stop for an adulting reason.

Another interesting episode! Haha! Been enjoying this podcast since the beginning! One bit of constructive criticism, pleas refrain from using God or Jesus’ names as curse words. In lieu of using the Creator’s name in vain, there are a plethora or other words that could be said. “Oh my gosh”, “goodness,” etc. And, depending on the context, one might say, “are you serious?” “Come on!” And things of that mature. Here is something to consider: think about your Mom, and how kind and caring she is. But, in a moment of anger you use her name as an expletive. How strange and off putting would that be?! Now, think about the King of Kings, and how much more serious that would be? He loves us more than even our own parents can! Thank you for your time, and I hope you guys have a blessed day!

This episode started out strong and fun, but when the video game lore conversation came up it quickly became really hard to listen to. I play plenty of games were storyline does matter. Story is a key part in any RPG/JRPG/CRPG. You litteraly are taking up a role and playing out the storyline. Chrono Trigger has a great story. You start out as a kid who is sent through time to save the princess and then get put on trial for kidnapping her. You escape from jail by going through a time portal to the future to get away, but soon find out there is a bigger problem coming to end the world. You meet a bunch of people along the way and learn their individual stories, help them deal with problems in their timelines and in the end band together to save the world. The game is deeper than I described. If story didn't matter than what is the point of making and playing a JRPG with that depth. You could just save your money, go put on Spotify and play a board game instead.

IN A WAY, I can kinda understand why Gamestop does that. They probably receive several loose titles, so they don't even have a case, so they put them in these generic Gamestop cases, both for protection and for shipping and stuff. I mean, unless they actually advertised it as being Complete In Box (CIB), then that doesn't seem like THAT egregious to me. I mean the cases are ugly, but would you rather have that, or have them just send the disc in a little paper sleeve in the mail? The former is probably a lot better. Now, if they actually advertised them as CIB and then they sent you that garbage, then yeah, that is unacceptable. And generally speaking, I agree, Gamestop is garbage.

I order my retro games from eBay because I can look at pictures of the actual item I’m ordering. Then I can go with one that has the least damage to the booklet and everything. It’s kind of a fun scavenger hunt in a way haha

That is the one nice thing about Game Stop. If you preorder something (that you're picking up at the store) they always know exactly what you're looking for as soon as you walk in, and they've never lost my copy or anything. My old GameStop used to even call ahead the day before to remind me. A lot of times they'll even still have midnight release parties.

Comment thread of my thoughts throughout the video: I’m mostly with Thunderstache about not buying bad games. I generally enjoy almost every game I play but there are occasions where one is just simply not good.

I completely agree about how the older console's spines are more colorful and more varied, and that makes them a lot more enjoyable, but also the Switch cases are much thinner than those ones. There's just not much room to really do anything there. Even if there was color and icons and whatever, it's such a thin area to work with, it would probably be tough to really appreciate.

53:11 - this is so funny. I’m on my third Xbox controller because of Rocket League. Due to constantly flicking the sticks and tapping the A button, they both eventually go bad and I’m too lazy to repair my own. It’s legitimately a big issue in the Rocket League community 😂 and yes Cheezy, I very much suck at the game

I love Def Jam: Fight for NY! It’s a super popular competitive fighting game now so copies of it have gone way up in price. I had it as a kid and then when I went to buy it again a few years ago, I had to pay $120 for it 😳

I only had a handful of games on GameCube but I still have really fond memories of it. One of my favorites was all the times I played Mario Golf Toadstool Tour with my cousins.

Zelda wasn't linear, just because i have to go to the fire temple next doesn't mean i have to do it now. In Final Fantasy 10 for 90% of the game your only option is to go forward to the next town or cut scene. That's linear.

So ... When I first got into gaming, they didn't have endings. They just got faster and more difficult until you died. Now I love a good story driven game.... But if I feel like I'm never going to finish it, or at least not before my natural life is over.... I'm going to either not play it or abandon it.

I always preferred linear games , I enjoy my 20-30 hour games or less. I usually waste my time with openworld ,then I get bored and stop playing. I just prefer games to be games

Nice episode guys! I will say, Xenoblade 1 is as open world as 2 and 3 are, but I'd describe them as "semi open world" or like "adventure RPGs." But the areas are definitely very large and vast. Xenoblade Chronicles X on the other hand is open world on the level of BOTW/TOTK and Elden Ring. You can run from the starting area all the way to the final continent at the start, but you'd get annihilated 😅

Not to be the semantics guy, but I’m hoping I can maybe clear up some confusion on this topic.I believe a lot of what you’re referring to as open-world games are actually sandbox games. Open-world is a pretty vague concept and really just refers to any game with a world that is free to be explored whether during story or in between missions. Sandbox games are games that give you a set of mechanics / tools to play the game and accomplish tasks however you want within a world or multiple worlds that have minimal restrictions. Minecraft would be the ultimate example of that but other games like BotW / TotK, Bethesda games, the Hitman series, and even GTA to an extent all fit within that label. Open-world games on the other hand can vary greatly, some can be sandbox games but others can be very linear, like the Horizon series for example, which gives you an open-world you can explore but also has a very structured and focused narrative. Now when it comes to Linear games, typically what people are referring to with this label are games that restrict or limit exploration to the main story path and lock you out of previous sections while also requiring you to complete objectives to progress to the next sections. I definitely find myself enjoying sandbox games the most but I also love a good and structured linear game. I think it all circles back to what Johnny was saying, it has less to do with the genre of game and more to do with the quality of the content. Even though I love sandbox games, if the content in one of those games is bland, boring, or vapid, it’s not going to be enjoyable. Anyway, great episode!
