Buckfast Abbey has a ring of 12 bells and a bourdon in the tower. Access to the ringing room takes you through a gallery from which the earlier ring of 12 used to be rung. The rope guides for this earlier ring are still there and ringing from here would have been a very hairy experience. The ringing featured is the initial pull off as seen from the belfry (so not the best quality striking) foll...

They sound like derby st Luke’s 31cwts D
Gilly listening to the bells
I think thry need a toral overhaul with new fittings and im sure simpson retuning would work wonders. Actually painting the ringing room either white of cream would help as it looks very dull and rather depressing.

The same vid but in the belfry
how are the clock chimes pulled off here i see no cables or levers on the wall? with it being a huge drum and 10 hammers I'd have expected to see a pull off mechanism.
There's one behind the curtain
These are in fact Eb not E
I agree
anticlockwise ground floor rung cast by thomas lester treble 2nd and 3rd william whitmore 4th 6th 7th and tenor john wallis 5th mears and stainbank
sorry mate but why on earth do you always have to state the bloody obvious!, it's not funny nor is it clever!.
I used to live on Highgate as a teenager and this was my Sunday alarm clock. It was bloody loud (I live near the bottom of Highgate so really close) but I always loved the sound of the bells and of change ringing.
Sound like st Lawrence in ipswich
I don’t think that’s E. kind of sounds like Eb
I doubt you could tell the difference between e and e flat. It is rare for people to have perfect.
@@Steven_Rowe but it is e flat.. what’s going on?
@@Whos_Bacon I never said the are E, they are Eb. My point is many ringers think of you play them a note they can tell you what note it is. The fact is very few people can tell the note unless compared with a known note. People who can do this are said to have perfect pitch.
@@Steven_Rowe Uh check your description
The fundamentals sound flat in the trebles, so probably Whitechapel's first ring tuned with octave hums.
It always nice to hear really well struck ringing, also nice open leads . The bells are also classic old school bells. This must have been s9mexof the last bells cast by Whitechapel.
Quite a delightful sound.
tenor 41-1-3cwts also a sharp 2nd a flat 6th and hosanna cast by john taylor
clock bell also cast by mears and stainbank
Love Stedman - annoying when you lose a peal of it close to the end. I never got to ring a peal of Stedman Caters when I lived in the UK - only had one attempt and it was miscalled after 2.5 hours. Annoyed.
My kind of metal! They are like eating a meatsteak, delicious and good for your muscles. The best eight in Somerset without a doubt!
This is glorious!
Yea that's a nope from me. Not even a set of pre-war Taylors would get me up there
the 5th sounds very good for nearly 700!!
I remember when the Todmorden bells were removed here and augmented to 12.
Missed a chance to ring on these when I lived in the UK. I remember visiting London on one of the days when they were open for general ringing for an occasion - but the Mrs wanted to shop at Primark so I never got to try these out.
not far from the cathdedral
Absolutely ghastly bells.
Are you for real? Your view is very much a minority one! Disparaging comments from anonymous accounts will lead to them being removed.
@lovesguide These bells aren't to my taste but by no means are they "ghastly"
Taylors seem to have made a very respectable six out of a collection of bells by five different founders and six different dates
Cambridge Minor or Cambridge Major 🤔
Very nice sounding bells.
Did you have ear protection?
They were loud, but not loud enough to require ear protection. We quickly got used to it.
@@lovesguide rung there in 2019, still think it's a shame they didn't make the gallery the ringing room

these bells sound like stafford st mary the back ten come from hanley
No they don't....don't be silly
Nothing like them. What an idiot!

Apparently the old tenor weighed 43cwt
It is very nice to see bell ringing on the North Bank of the Humber, especially as they are northern Yorkshire barbarians! They should take a lil trip to the south band and Lincolnshire shire ringers will show them what time it is!😂😅😂😂😅

Bellringing is a much underrated traditional skill. Show a non-ringer a book of Methods and they might change their view.
Fantastic bells rung by the Birmingham band, it doesn't get any better.
I like that you've put a fan in the middle !
nice bells
the worst bells in the uk they sound disgusting and like tin cans
They're being rung a bit rapidly, for their size!
I have measured the peal speed as 2h55, so not too fast, and only 4 minutes faster than the only other peal on the ten bells. Ringing tends to sound quicker when the number of bells increases.
@@lovesguide I know (about it sounding quicker etc.) I'm not as green as you imagine. I didn't measure the speed, but felt that they sound a bit hurried.
Some superb ringing
It's always nice to hear well s5ruck ringing, it's painful to the ears and the soul to hear bashing around. Having said that I'm no fantastic ringer either.
Thank you

There's no way I could handle that climb in my old age, but I really love these bells! I learned to ring on the Rudhall bells at Old North Church in Boston, Massachusetts, during my college days in the 1970s. Although this is a heavier ring, the sound of the bells at Pershore is very familiar to me.
wonderful!
I never got to ring here when I lived in the UK. They sound ok when rung well, but looking on Bellboard, there seem to be very few performances here, one or two a year - are they rung regularly?
How do you actually manage to do this! It’s absolutely fascinating to listen and watch!
