5 STUNNING Fish That Will Make Your Planted Aquarium POP!
The Perfect Fish for Your Planted
Aquarium: A Comprehensive Guide
Have you ever stood before a lush planted aquarium, mesmerized by the interplay of light,
leaves, and swimming jewels? Today, embarking on an in-depth journey into the world of
aquascaping to discover five extraordinary fish species that will transform your underwater
garden into a living masterpiece. But before we dive into these amazing species, let's
understand why choosing the right fish is absolutely crucial for your planted aquarium's
success.
Selecting the wrong fish for your planted aquarium can trigger a devastating chain of events that
no aquarist wants to face. When incompatible species are introduced, the consequences can be
severe and far-reaching. Aggressive fish may constantly harass peaceful species, leading to
chronic stress and eventual health issues. Some fish might dig into the substrate, uprooting
carefully placed plants and destroying months of aquascaping work.
The problems don't stop there. Poor species selection can lead to biological imbalances, as
different fish require varying water parameters. This can result in dangerous spikes in
nitrogenous waste, promoting unwanted algae growth and compromising water quality. Even
more concerning is the potential for disease outbreaks, as stressed fish become more
susceptible to pathogens, creating a devastating cycle that can be difficult to break.
Based on my experience, here are my top five
recommended fish species for planted aquariums.

They used to breed in my community tank some time ago. It was usually a group breeding (1 m vs 3 f or 2 m vs 3 f). It was impossible for me to hatch and rise fry, since I had a lot of shrimps and snails in the tank, as well as other fish like Apistogramma and Loricaria. 4:00 wrong those are both male the right one is a juvenile. There's a female fish in the video montage the pale colored one with no visible spots on its fins and very short dorsal fins
Ok. Noted. Thank you.
Great video well produced and thanks for posting My question is about your spawning setup. Why didn’t you cover the entire bottom with plants? By observation they like to spawn high in the water column and then the eggs sink straight down. It appears in your video most of the eggs were falling on the gravel rather than in the plants.
@@robdavinroy1761 but in my observation. They will spawn arround plants. And most of the time bottom of the tank. For my vedeo purpose i use some plants. If you full the bottom with plants it is the better way to do and you can observe behaviour or you can check the abdomen size of the female, then you can have the idea of already spawn or not. Then can remove adults.
Forktails are blue-eyes, not Rainbowfish!

hey, what species of shrimp u had in there ? (i see two species) do zebra eat some of them ?
All of them are neocaridina shrimps. No. L46 never eat shrimp or shrimplets.

@@prof.albertolima8053 Thank you.
Thank you sir for this video. I have a chance of getting some. Wish me luck trying to breed them. But after your information. I should have good luck.
@@DerekHebbes good luck ! If you see the time frame and behaviour analisis following spawning definitly you will have babies. But keep that spawning tank atleast 2 to 3 weeks feeding without seen any fry coz if your timing is good it always have eggs in the tank. And fry will eat what you feed daily until they large enough to see
I have an unusual situation. I bought a flame gourami last week and then another this week. I noticed the coloring on the second fish was dull but not extremely dull. I wasn’t sure if it was male or female. A day or so later, I noticed the older gourami was hiding under a bunch of hornwort plants at the top and corner of my aquarium. Then I noticed what looked like a bunch of bubbles. This morning, it’s still there and the nest is brown? But he’s very protective of that area, chasing away other gouramis - which he avoided when I first introduced him to the aquarium. I’m thinking of putting a breeding cage around the area rather than try to remove the nest - I don’t have another aquarium to put fish in. Does this make sense?
@@priest25 i think this time you can study the behaviours of fish. Best option is try to breed them in separate aquarium in next time. When we put an breeding cage sometimes male will eat all eggs due to stress/disturbances. You can use plastic baskets to breed them.
@ thanks much! I bought the cage and tried it for a few hours. The gourami seemed upset so I took the cage out. It’s a community aquarium and my first time having the fish attempt to breed. I’ll just let “nature take its course.”
@priest25 it is ok bro. Let them care eggs. Most of the time they will eat. But in next time try in separate tank.
Nice fish . Dit iam have 14 of the l46. .Start. 2 Jhr ago
@michelwolfde7789 good luck !
There is nothing to do with the raccoon here! This fish named after the 8th brightest star called Procion ( accidently the raccoon's genus also called Procion , god knows why? ) Thus racoon tetra is a silly name. The fish has a bluish star in its eye.....
Yes. It has bluish colour shine. Thank you.
Is that possible to breed those special plecos without ceramic caves but bunch of rock and wood?🤔
In natural habitat they will breed in same way. But we provide caves. It is easy and we can see the exact plases which they can lay eggs. You can provide some cave like places and definitly they will lay eggs in it. No need of ceramic caves as a theory.
@@SerendibAquatics Thank you so much

Hi, great video. I want to try to breed them in a 120gal tote, from you experience what would you recommend?
I would like to replicate semi wild conditions, I am from Costa Rica so the tropical weather is a huge advantage as well as the water chemistry. I think that I will have the substrate be leaf litter to give hiding space for the eggs and to have a infusoria culture living already in the tote.
I thing breeding in small breesing setups give much more success rate than large setups. But in 120 setup you can go ahead with breesing meathod 2. Put group of adult fish and much more hiding places. They will thrive in it and breed in it.
Ok bro. Put some dark pebbles and put the leaf litter on top of it. Eggs will go to the pebble layer. It will have more survivel rate. Infusoria you can grow in separate setup and when you have seen some spawning behaviours in tank. You can start infusoria small volume 2ml dilute with 20 ml of water and distribute in vegitation. Then if have fry they will surview.
