    I don't use a Joann calendar for coupons, but I think they are the worst for using coupons. Often they don't work and you can't stack them. But you are right about the nice deals on the remmants.

    Love the print. Always wanted to ask you why you serge the fabric before washing. I prewash my fabric and get a lot of strings, but I wouldn't think to spend the extra time serging. What's your logic?

    Pre-wound bobbins for embroidery are very popular because you can just pop a new one on without unthreading the needle thread to wind a new bobbin. However, you can definitely get embroidery bobbin thread on big spools and cones if you prefer to wind your own. Having a separate bobbin winder can be useful in that case, to minimize the time you spend re-threading the machine. Quick note about the cords: while the power cords are interchangeable, some of the foot pedals are not, even when they plug in using the same style of jack. Generally the ones that are a combination power cord and foot pedal with the chunky 3-pin connector can be interchanged, but some of the ones that plug into the headphone style jack are not compatible with each other, even within the same brand. Usually you can check the part number, and if that matches then you can interchange them. For the width control: this is really useful when doing satin stitch embroidery. You chalk out a pattern on a large piece of fabric, then set the machine to a very small stitch length, and use the width control to give yourself wide or narrow lines of embroidery as you sew over top of the chalk lines. It's a great technique for doing relatively simple designs on pieces that will never fit into even a huge sized embroidery hoop. The spool cap is indeed not needed for the cone-style embroidery thread, though some machines will include a little tube-looking thing that fits over the spool pin and into the top of the cone. If you have any trouble with the cone pulling off the end of the spool pin then that little tube thing will hold it on securely. And indeed, if you use a spool cap but don't snug it up against the spool, then the thread can end up wrapping around the spool pin between the spool and the cap, causing the thread to jam. Happy sewing!

    We all have lots of unfinished projects too. Maybe I'll pull some out and see if I can finish one. I smiled when I saw your Trader Joe's bag, I have one that I made a bib pattern with. I have a stash of paper bags that I use for pattern making. I'd like to see you use yours and make the shopping bag. And the shoe bag project sounds fun too. And since you already have fabric cut for bags, I'd make use of them. Getting a few projects done will be a great feeling. And mt two cents on the color of the embroidery thread, choose a dark color so it will stand out. When the fabric patterns are busy, a lighter color gets lost in the fabric design.

    I hope that you learned that all sewing machine need to be service once a year. Because they need greases, oiled, an lint removal inside the housing. This also keeps your 25 year warranty. If you don't do this you will lose your warranty. Also every 5 project you should clean under the the feed dogs and bobbin case. At this tine you should look at your bobbin cast to see if it is damaged. Then oil your machine in the places that need it. If the oiling points are not in your manual. Then talk to the repair person on were. This will make your machine last a long time. Even if it not a high end machine.

    They must have revised the instructions since your video. The bottom is sewn on first before the wire insertion and they have you sew it so you can tuck the wire down into it after the flip to right sides with outer and inner lining. Still going to give it a try

    I think the key fobs look terrific and good idea to identify what the key is for. I used to do a lot of embroidery and love the top stabilizer. The kind I used was water soluble, so I would tear away the large piece and spray some water on it to dissolve. I always thought it helped keep the stitches in place. I never bothered to pin it down, I would just cut a piece and put it on top of where the embroidery would be. Have you ever thought about making some advertising specialties for yourself? You could embroider your logo or name on a coaster, key fob or any other small item to give away. Repeat customers or ones that make sizable purchases at your craft shows might like a giveaway with your name on it.

    • @samanthatansley
      @samanthatansley 14 днів тому

      Sandy, you are brilliant! I didn’t think of using spray bottle water. That is so much more accurate and efficient! This week I’ve been working on a custom order of over 30 embroidered items and I absolutely love using the top stabilizer. Embroidered coasters for giveaway is a great idea!! It would take me quite a while to do it though. I would love to get fabric custom made with my logo for jar openers. Everywhere I’ve looked it’s about $20 a yard, which is way out of my price range. I’ve thought about ordering stickers and/or pins with my logo. Too many ideas and not enough time! I need an assistant 😄

    Your channel and this video was recommended to me. And I’m team all of them?? lol. Actually when you mentioned using those scraps.. I thought why not use them for the fabric for your Trader Joe’s fabric copy bag. Two birds in one stone? If a live is an option why not do a finish live? Sounds like you have several embroidery plans. My thought is to have an embroidery day if you can. Have that embroidery mindset and skill set geared up and do all those in the same day. The dark blue on that tropical looking fabric seems like it would read bedt

    Great tips, I’m looking for a better way to store my fabrics, watching lots of videos. Could you not just stack the fabric in piles on the shelves instead of standing them up?

      You absolutely can! The only downside is when you need to pull from the bottom or middle of the stack. With no structure it would be the same as grabbing a tshirt from the middle, the rest get messed up. I would recommend placing some sort of stabilizer in the middle. Cut up cereal box, foam board, card board, cardstock, flattened tissue box, etc

    Girl!!! I would start small with the bobbins. Get an easy win. I would pick the corn hole bags next personally. Good luck!

    This is going to be critical and I don’t think you will want this info but if I were you…….I would box up these projects and put them away. If you still have an interest in a few months pull them out. Start over fresh and new. You can’t do that with these all hanging over your head. Way too many projects. Over the next few months if you have a strong desire to do one of the projects you can always pull it out and work on it. Tape up the box after you fill it up. You have lots of ideas, but it’s always best to finish what you start making. You have a ton of money tied up in fabric you have cut already. Maybe just cut it when you are actually doing the project. Most of us crafters, quilters, sewing people struggle with starting too many projects. You’re young enough to break this habit. Main thing, don’t cut the fabric until you’re starting the project. I see lots of money spent on fabric but not used. You can always send me the fabric you have already cut. LOL. I will put it to good use.

      That’s what she’s trying to do is finish things. Starting over fresh and new and putting these away for a while would mean these are still undone and she’s cutting into MORE things and potentially not getting to all of them.

      Go back and reread your opening line and then read it again. And then take your own advice. I haven't even had a chance to watch the video, but your comments are nauseating. How dare you even suggest she send things to you as if you know how to better use her things? Disgusting.
