Do you have an address I can get there?
Thanks for saving me from spending money on the 3/8" system.
Have you tested how long it takes to air down with the 1/4” hose and how long it takes to air down with the 3/8” hose? The 3/8” should air down faster. I would think the 1/4” would air up quicker since A.) like you said 1/4” hose has less volume to fill, but, I would think it maintains a higher internal pressure that is achieved quicker with less volume to push in the tires air valve quicker and easier than the 3/8” setup.
@@lizkatari I didn't test the air down process. I don't expect that either would have an advantage, but worth testing... As a note, during the air up process, the internal pressure is virtually equal between the two sizes. Only like 1 or 2 psi difference.
@ Interesting on the 1-2 psi difference. I would have thought it would have been more like 4-5 or up to 10 psi difference. If they air down at the same rate then I would think it’s the valves in the tires air valve
@lizkatari ya, the so minor difference in manifold pressure was one of the reasons I was so surprised by the result and tested many more times to verify.
You mentioned winter camping, and that the rainfly wouldn't really matter because you'd have the windows closed... one place it might matter is at the back door. If it snows it could be nice to have the rainfly to help keep snow from getting in between the solid door & mesh. Nothing worse than zipping down that door and snow falls on on your bed!

@harolddenton6031 my FJ has the factory rest locker, and the center diff locks, but not the front. I'd like to have a selectable locker in the front, but that's money I don't really have, or haven't wanted to spend. 08 and up, you can run the rear locker and A-Trac at the same time, and that's close to having a front locker. @@mtnmnchronicles is a great tent. I was seriously impressed, especially at thay money.
Your video is 3 yrs old as of the date of my comment, but here it goes. Amazon has a pressure switch that will turn the motor on at 90 psi or less and shut the motor off at 120 psi or higher. Fairly easy for you to do. There are a couple of videos where others have done it; they've mounted the switch inside the handle area.
@@danburch9989 being 3 years old... I don't even remember why you would be quoting pressure switched, but good looking out either way... 😁. I have since moved on through a few compressors and inflation systems. I think at one point, and likely what you're referencing, I had considered on board air. Never did pursue that. Not a real high priority I guess.
@@EverymanOverland I made the comment for the benefit of others like me who've seen your video for the first time.
Now, try with a Powertank and/or with Apex Performance Valvestems. Id be curious to see if theres any difference
@@NateBoyce1789 ill be testing with a CO2 tank soon, and a few other ideas. The apex valves wouldn't make any difference as they use standard valve cores, but I would like to try the oversized valves that require you redrill your wheels. I think that would see a difference... I've also thought running dual valve stems in each wheel could help, but again, custom drilling I'm not looking to pay for... If I were on 40s it might be worth it, but on 33s, this all happens fast enough..
@EverymanOverland Sweet!! I've subscribed and notifications on so I can see that update. I have a 2024 Raptor(had a 2018 Raptor) and I used your video to build my inflate/deflate system. With a CO2 tank(ran at 175psi on regulator) on my 35's on that truck, it took less the 2 mins to fill up all 4 from 30psi to 50psi(i ran Wildpeak AT3W and they rode much smoother at 50psi)...I had AlphaEquipt Command wheels and they had dual valvestems and I had Apex Performance valves in one of those spots. Apex also has some end caps that screw on and it pushes the valvestem in and out of the way, however it's an open system and makes dang near impossible to use on the 4 wheel system. I hadn't seen or heard about the bigger valvestems/cores that need drilling, but that sounds interesting.
Great video. My theory is as the hose gets larger to increase volume it reduces the velocity at which the air is pushed through. With the valve cores being the ultimate choke point at 1/8" to 3/16" having the increased velocity created from the 1/4" hose will force more air through the valve stem more rapidly. utilizing an 1/8" hose in theory should fill equal to the 1/4" hose if not slightly faster but having the compressor engineered to work with 1/4" hose it would become inefficient and heat up the pumps more rapidly. Where you will see a difference with the 1/4" is using a pressurized tank as the pressure would create a much higher velocity forcing more air through the valve. I am much more familiar with air suspension but it all works off the same principals.
@@xpvibe thank you for watching... I think you're on track with the velocity at the valve core. I'll be testing again soon with a few different ideas including a CO2 tank.
What type of roof rack do you have on your FJ ?
@@JAYKOSTRANSPORTLLC it's an ARB roof basket, likely installed as a dealer option, that used to have a full perimeter raised "wall" that I cut down to allow tents on it. I can't post pictures in here that I'm aware of, but if you look at my very first videos, you can see it still intact. If I cut the rest off, that front piece, the tent would fit better, but I really like the way the front of the rack looks, so I just couldn't bring myself to cut it off...

Awesome reviews, have you look into Topoak rtt?if yes, what is your thoughts compared to this one?
I have seen the Topoak... Headline differences between them are the Topoak has the kick-out at the back, but sacrifices the rain fly over the large side windows. And the Topoak is $600 more expensive by the time it reaches your door. I will take the rain fly over the kick-out any day, and spend that $600 on an air mattress, diesel heater and $300 of fuel to take you anywhere you wanna go.
We bought the NatureNest last year, which is almost identical to this one. Same rain fly which was one of the key selling points for us, but no secondary vent window over the back. It appears to be just a bit wider than this, so our foam air mattress does fit just right. Ended up getting ours for free as there was shipping damage that dented the top shell. Super happy with it even if we had to pay the 1400.
Well it might be time to make a bad financial decision and replace my 1st gen smittybuilt😅
@@stevenbrown2039 you'll never ever ever look back. I had both the standard and xl smittybilt tents. This is so much nicer, faster, holds more, smaller when collapsed... Not as much volume inside when it's set up, but I just use my tents to sleep so it doesn't bother me. You'll love it.
Definitely looks okay for the price. I like the wedge tents that expand towards the back like the Topoak for a little more room inside.
@@redbeastadventures I do too... I have one, the San hima hotham. But it's 40 percent more expensive. It's nice, I totally expected to like it more than this one. But I don't. It's a close match. @@deepbludude4697 just gotta make sure it's rolling on the correct way, tight as you can in the first layer. Then use the weight of the vehicle to spool it the rest of the way in.
Really dumb question, but do you feel like it can easily exceed the weight capacity? Nothing crazy, but Im 6'6 380lbs and my girls about 190 so Im kinda on the fence. She's not a fan of ground tents so Im looking at the Hotham!
@@breadfanornofan1148 nah dood... In my opinion the 6'6" rules you out. You're too long for wedge style tents. I'm 6'3" 330ish and it's pretty much a 1 person affair with me in there. Get, or lay on a full size air mattress. That's all the room you have in there. And your feet are down at the narrow end of the wedge getting trapped. It's not about the weight, though you should be sure your roof rack can support 800+lbs. Look into the clamshell style tents like the ikamper sky camp. There's far less expensive versions than ikamper, but that style is what you'll want. You'll have the room to be comfortable.
@ i absolutely appreciate that info!!!
@ so would something like a Roofnest pop up be a good option? Im looking to use my tailgate as a possible step instead of a ladder
@breadfanornofan1148 the roof nest pop up will have the same problem that it has a fixed floor dimension. You're going to want something that folds, so the floor dimensions increase when it's opened. If you're looking at roof nest, the condor is what you'll want. Or the ikamper sky camp, tuff stuff Overland alpha... I'm sure there's more. Even the smittybilt Overlander soft shell. Soft shells are a bit of a pain to set up and tear down, but they're big inside. As to using your tailgate instead of a ladder, I don't understand why you would do that, but... I'd have to look at the setup you have to figure out if you could make it work. My initial thought is you couldn't.
@ looks like the Sparrow 2 has a decent amount of length. I'm going to take a stab at it and see if it'll work. Thankfully both roofnest and amazon have amazing return policies. The reason I want to try and use my tailgate is that I had a back injury awhile back so Ive been trying to find a decent tent with a rear entry. It's going on a 2017 Tundra with a 12in bed rack so it's not too high up from the tailgate. I also hate ladders so for me a step stool on the tailgate may be better for me. I really appreciate your insight and I'll keep you updated when I get it. May even do a review!

On a normal use passenger car this is incredibly stupid overkill unless you are doing something special and you are still going to need a sufficient output compressor. On a commercial use semi trailer this scheme is fantastic and we already use such permanently installed systems (Meritor) on large fleets of trailers. These systems work well because they can take air from the semi tractor (power unit).
@@kmg501 as a long time driver, I'm familiar. These are fairly useless for a passenger car doing mall car things. They are nice however for airing down and back up on the trail. Adding a couple pounds isn't what this is for. It's for taking all 4 at the same time from 12psi to 36 psi, or whatever pressures you choose.
@@EverymanOverland Thanks for the reply. I'm curious, have you heard of anyone using such a device in a rally or competition of any kind? Anyway, please don't take offense at any of this, offense is not intended.
@kmg501 no I haven't heard of them used in racing. I think I'm that environment tenths of a psi can make a difference. You really need to get a Guage on each tire in that world. I take zero offense from your comments. These systems, the 4 tire inflation systems and methods for controlling the pressure only make things easier. It's nice when airing up at the end of the trail to be able to do other things. Chat with your friends, make lunch, pack the truck... Whatever. But this is airing up oversize off road tires, not standard size passenger car tires. When I first saw these inflation systems, I though they were dumb. Then I used one. It changed my mind. Wew! More gear!
@@tatetolson383 new gear is always happiness!
