Hi, my name is Chris. My wife Marla and I are in search of adventure. Seeing where the road takes us, and leaving the road to see all the things you can't see any other way. Call it adventuring, call it car camping, call it overlanding... You'll find us there in our trusty steed Janky, a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Currently located in the southeast, come join us in the search for the perfect adventure, and in the times between trips working on Janky, or with friends.
Very dry Coppinger Cove TN, can we make it out without breaking?
This trip was to a very dry Coppinger Cove TN. If you have been to the Cove, then you know it is all about slippery mud, rocks and all the water crossings. We have never seen The Cove as try as we did on this trip, and even then, it was still a slippery, muddy mess!! Spectacular natural scenery, awesome wheelin', great friends.... Let's just see if we all make it out in one piece!! This trip also convicted me I need a drone. Thank you Lewis and Kristina for the footage!!

What was the part you got from the store?
@@camaroloverx4 that was near 3 years ago, so I'd have to re-watch it to tell you for sure... But I remember it being the 1/4" barbed to 1/4" npt fitting that I used on the spot hose on the compressor. In the early days of those compressors, they used a Japanese Nitto style fitting, and I built the system with American style fitting. So I had to change out the fitting on the compressor.
This is actually a good snorkel. I just installed one this morning. Tip 1. The template is not correct. If you fix the drilling template you will not have issues bolting it on and your fender gap will set correct agents the door. 2 do not bend the brackets like he did. If you do you will play hell getting things to fit. 3 you do have to cut about 4 inches off like showen in this video. I cut it 3 different times until it dropped into place. 4 do not mark and drill your a piller until the snorkel is bolted to your fender and setting in its final place. Then mark drill and pop rivit then bolt it to the snorkel. 5 get m6x1.25 hardware with large fender washers for the base and also the a piller. Using this where he used Phillips head screws. Will save you headaches. Enjoy.
@@ernestjohnson1807 ya I should have replaced the Phillips screws that came with the kit. How did you get the a-pillar bracket to fit without bending it? Mine was miles away from fitting...
Great video, I built mine out of 3/8 and it’s bulky and hard to store. I’m going to set up a 1/4 system
@@jeepinfool86 ya, turns out 1/4" is the way to go. Fairly soon this summer I'm setting up a few more tests to see if I can find a way to make the 3/8 outperform the 1/4

hey nice video ! what time of the year did you make this trip that it was so dry ? we are planing to go Ober there in September
@@jeffreyarmas1548 thank you! I appreciate you watching... We just made this trip in early May. September I would expect to have more water. Obviously more rain brings more water. If you've seen my other cove videos, or most anyone's cove video, you'll know that the name of the game there is water crossings and likely body damage. So go prepared, don't go alone, and you'll have an amazing trip. We have a very loose, tentative plan to go back in October if I remember correctly. There's a couple more trails out there that we haven't been to. What vehicle do you plan on taking?
@EverymanOverland nice, I'll be waiting for those videos nothing confirmed yet, but probably a fj cruiser , 4th gen 4runner , tacoma, xterra, gladiator, and 80 series land cruiser . We are driving from Florida, so we are trying to get as much information as possible so we don't miss the trip. I read online that the trail is permanently closed. do you know anything about this?
@@jeffreyarmas1548 I've heard that it's closed, but I heard that 6 months ago and we're still going. I think the confusion is there's land owners around the cove that don't want people driving down their roads, so they're trying to close the roads. So I'll hear that certain entrances are closed, but I have yet to see that actually in effect. There's also coalmont ohv next door that has effectively closed off that area, though it's not gated. But if you're going to wheel the trails at coalmont, you should pay them their daily fee, they put a lot of work in. But no, this video was shot in May of 24, it's still very much open and accessible.
@@EverymanOverland mmmm ok ok , sso should be ok with a good map of public land / private property to avoid that issue with the "trail closed"? what do you think is the best (fun) trail to get to the cove ? from south (the church) or from north (almont)? we like rivers, to swim and to do the rivers crossings I really really appreciate your help

Isn't the top of Bear Pen blocked off now? I heard it was.... what did yall see?
No. We drove all the way through to the road out the top end. I didn't see any evidence of it being closed. But this was recorded in early May. So it's possible something has happened since then that I'm unaware of...
Good stuff man! glad you could wheel and not too much bad news, keep it up!

Man I want to go there in the rain season. It’s been too dry!
Ya it rained overnight a bit, and on and off the last day that we ran bear pen. But it was crazy dry for the cove. Never seen the water that low.
Great video! What a fun time with everyone. We love you, Kenny! 😂😂😂 - Kricket.
Twas a great time!
Never owned a winch until today 6-27-24. Enjoyed the video. You did a great job with all of that. Lot of work. Picked some cool music too. Wondering who does that? Good vibes.
I'm glad you liked it. Just like I do all my own work on the truck, I do all the video and editing work on the channel. Sometimes parole like the music, sometimes people complain. The internet never can agree... 😁 But thank you for the kind words, and for watching!
At 27:50 there is a notch on the driver side you should put your driver tire in and you basically run your passenger side as high as you can on the wall. If you're passenger side in the "V", you're gonna slide your door panels along the side of the trail like you saw lol.
That looked like some slippery mud. I think the Red Beast might have come in handy with that recovery.
I'm not sure anything short of a dozer would have helped that day. So slippery you almost couldn't walk on it.
Nice driving. I am definitely going to have to check out Trail 30 in the Red Beast that looked like fun.
Loved trail 30. I will warn you that it gets pretty narrow in a couple spots and the red tundra that was with us did some body damage through spots that he just didn't fit. These east coast trails get real narrow.
@@EverymanOverland Do you remember what kind of body damage?
@@redbeastadventures broke both tail lights, dragged both sides of the bed on rocks and the driver door as I remember. But it was a couple years ago at this point so I might be missing some.
@@EverymanOverland Ouch!
@@redbeastadventures ya. He took it in stride, but the rest of us cringed all day.
That’s a fun obstacle on Trail 51. Just got back from running that trail in the Red Beast with Nick in a Geo Tracker. Nick had a similar experience to your crew going up. With the long wheel base, the Red Beast just climbed up (also had all wheels locked). I guess in some cases the longer wheel base comes in handy. I will be posting that video in a week or so.
Sweet!

Love it there. I need to hit coalmont ohv, I haven't been there since it opened. I ran a couple trails before they opened, but not since.
That is horrible design and quality and that gauge is not even accurate
It was an odd design, I prefer 2 hoses to the 4 setup, I guess they were trying to do something different.
Was just there yesterday in my stock max tow gladiator. First time off road snd it was great. Just subscribed.
You'll have some great times ahead with your new gladiator... URE is a great place. We it your first time off road ever, or just in that truck?

@@EverymanOverland it definitely was the perfect local for a first experience. I’ll be going back for sure. The people that were there were very helpful and friendly too!
90A peak, 50A running. The system will only see 90A briefly. But you do want to keep vehicle running. Morrflate said it won’t remember the setting so you have to set PSI each time. Did you confirm?
Agreed, 50a running, which is still a bunch. And no, it doesn't retain the previous setting. Every time you plug it in it resets to 30 psi. But just a few button clicks and you're good.
Awesome DIY. Going to use this pretty much step by step to make a two tire set up. I like to keep my rear and front tires at different psi on my tundra! Awesome video
You could also make a 4 tire system with ball valves on the front. When all 4 are at the desired front pressure, just close the fonts and continue with the rear
@@EverymanOverland I could and thought about it but half the amount of hose is worth the little time to fill two tires at the time to me.
@@decklanburkhart8113 Roger that.

Who is your favorite current F1 driver? For me it’s Charles Leclerc. (Just won in Monaco) :D
Try airing up one tire at a time and have the hose fully pressurized before starting. That way you take the time it takes to fill up the hose internal volume out of the equation.
If you’re using that tiny “compressor” their likely won’t be much of a difference because the limiting factor will be the “compressor” itself.
*there
It's not a tiny compressor, these dual cylinder compressors are currently the standard for high output portable compressors at around 11cfm. If it were the compressor, the two systems would have performed the same.
@@EverymanOverland I stand corrected thank you. I think the lack of a tank may reduce the ability to keep the line pressure consistent hinders the comparison though.
Great video. Some places look a little tight for the Red Beast, but it would be an absolute blast running these trails.
Ya, a full size would make it, but you'd have a few places that you'd have to be creative with your line...
Links for the lights?
This is the light we have. Looks like the price has gone up a bit, but I'd still pay 40 bucks for it. a.co/d/imdEBkc
Walker creek is a blast!!! Nice work!
It is due to the added volume of space between the 1/4 & 3/8 hose
Unless the 1/4" hose is restricting flow, it will be faster than the 3/8". Basically pressue vs volume. Try it with your shop compressor.
I plan to try it with my shop compressor, and with a CO2 tank. Projects for this summer.
Under pressure smaller diameter is better whenever there is any other bottle neck in the system, where adversly when there is limited restriction at entry and exit points like an air intake or water pipes where flow can exceed diameter of pipe the more volume in the pipe the better the flow. larger diameter hose for high pressure, the pressuer out competes the restrictive force already but the larger diameter hose has more stretch, adding elasticity and additional room for the air to take up thus taking longer before coming to pressure, more volume to fill , yhus making it harder to reach pressure, and less stable pressure as well
I ve just got my LED colight. Looking awesome I hope my Discovery will be bright now :-) This video was helpfull. Thank You mate
Always happy to be helpful! Hope you love the lights!
Well you did all of this and didn't change the fittings... No matter what the hose size is, the style of fittings can only move so much scfm. You would need to change the style of fitting as well. SMH😊
I changed all the fittings I could. Still have to use some 1/4 fittings for the tire chucks. But that won't explain why the 3/8 was 20 percent slower than the 1/4.
Bench testing my compressor I noticed an increase in output after some back pressure is placed on the system. I think the rings on the piston probably need a little back pressure to “seat” and the compressor then pumps more efficiently. Anyway, perhaps the restrictions of the 1/4” hose created enough back pressure to create the phenomenon I am talking about and the 3/8 didn’t... I think one way you could test this idea is to start the test with the tires at 15psi. It’s closer to real world conditions and creates that initial back pressure on the system which I suspect helps the piston on these compressors seal up.
Are these stock suspensions on the Toyotas
No, they all have a bit of lift...
Nice rims, I have the same ones on my Rav4!
I'm happy with the vision wheels. I beat the hell out of them, and so far I've only bent one just a little bit.
Great job, weekend, wheelin, gettin dirt! keep it up!

12: 40 That's a good question. Why did we design the battery to be inside and need to be taken out to charge? The reason is that this kind of design ensures better waterproofing. So, you can use it even when it's raining, even when it's pouring, or even if it falls into the river.
That makes a lot of sense!!

Did you change valve stems if you use the same valve stems only so much air can pass through them it would be the same for both hoses
Nope. These are just standard valve stems. Your theory matches mine, I expected to see no difference, but we're both wrong. There was a substantial difference.
