      I've been to Camp Perry may times for the Nationals and it is quite a sight to see hundreds of Anschutz rifles lined up on the firing line to compete. There is no question that Anschutz is a top shelf brand. The point of the video is to illustrate that unless you are going to go to the trouble of lot testing and careful ammo sorting that those shooters go through, the difference can be surprisingly tight. I will say that the Anschutz rifle used in the video does not shoot as well as I remember my previous model 54MSED to shoot, but we used the rifle I had during the filming, so its a sample of only one. I was never a fan of the Bergara as it did not feed or eject reliably, but I never found fault with the accuracy as illustrated by the video series.

    A real simple demonstration of BC is to take a sheet of A4 paper and try and throw it across a room . Se how accurately you can throw it and how consistently it travels in the air . Now take that sheet and crunch it up into a tight ball and throw that across the room . instantly you will see the difference . Both Projectiles are the same weight and the same material but the crunched up ball has the better aerodynamic shape and therefor the higher BC .

    I wonder if it will interface with the autotrickler V4 or the new ingenuity precision system. I use a V4 with the ingenuity trickler. And the A&D120 scale. Always drifting and overcharging. I don’t know if it’s a response timing thing or programming but I’m ready to change scales and this looks like the best value. Any thoughts? Thanks for a great video.

    I love low power .308 loads with cast projectiles. I have a .311 MP sledgehammer 140 mold that includes three different mold pins for a small, large cavities or solid nose. The large cavity hp will expand at velocities as low as 900 fps (air rifle) or performs well at 1800 fps with minor fragmentation. The video below is using little over six grains of W231. It produces low 1200 fps. The video also shows expansion. ua-cam.com/video/9PWSlczdhAQ/v-deo.htmlsi=bCEBb7KMYJGwBdi4

    Anschutz 54 shooting as 2+ inch group??? More data, different ammo and a number of shooters to provide a better study. This is a junk test. I own 2 Anschutz rifles and they shoot 1 ragged hole at 50 meters al day long with Eley match ammo. You'll never see a Bergara in the Olympics for good reason.

    • @PracticalTacticalAccuracy
      @PracticalTacticalAccuracy 11 місяців тому

      So you are saying there is better ammo... No argument... But we were testing the rifles with the same ammo. We were not testing the best ammo in one rifle against the best ammo in another rifle... That would be a shit ton of work, but hey... knock yourself out... go make the video of your dreams and send me a link. I look forward to seeing it. We own all the rifles used in the video BTW... We bought all rifles with with our own money. The results in this video show were surprising to us as well. To be clear, I think the Bergara is an unreliable POS, but I cannot fault it for accuracy as it beat out all our rifles in a fair one to one test. I currently shoot the Vudoo seen on the obstacle in the interview portion of the video, but that rifle was not used during the test. But I see no reason to believe it would have changed the results if we had included it. For mag feed reliability, the Vudoo is the best. As for the model 54 Anschutz, this is my second one, but I do not believe it shoots as well as the first one I owned, regardless of ammo. Its the one I have so that's what we used. Sample size of one.

      Absolutely not. When that scale drifts, its about a quarter of a kernel of varget with the AC and dryer running. Having real 0.002 grain accuracy is a fantastic advantage especially with small powder charges.

      It worked out great. After I made this video MDT came out with metal mages with a plastic insert and I made a similar mod to those. It's a little more involved with MDT mags but I like the end result a little better. These magazine companies should be offering mags for extended lengths like this.

    The number on the box is NOT marketing; the number correlates to the bullet profile under a controlled environment. When you're evaluating performance in real world settings, those values will obviously shift, but it's a reference point because you can account for different environmental conditions.

    This is more of a personal preference than practical placement. Doing it your way would require training and a significant compromise to the effectiveness of the red dot, for a minor gain in target acquisition. If it works for you, then that's great, but a 45° offset is not much slower and you achieve greater field of view.

While in this test the Bergara did prove to be very accurate, I got rid of it because of poor reliability, and only use the Vudoo these days. I resisted the high cost of the Vudoo for a long time, but I must admit, I am very pleased with the Vudoo on every level except the cost.

    Good series. I just sold my Bergara B14R to purchase a RimX from DPGunworks. I didn’t sell the B14R because of accuracy but I did sell it because of the cold bore shots. It was pretty consistent and it’s favorite ammo was SK. I did learn a lot from owning the Bergara and it was a stock rifle with a Triggertech Special trigger. I’ll send you a follow up message when I get the RimX in 6 months to let you know if I messed up. For now I’m shooting my Ruger Performance Center Competition 10/22 until the new one gets here and it competes very well. Thanks for the videos.

    • @PracticalTacticalAccuracy
      @PracticalTacticalAccuracy Рік тому

      Thank you Luther, We sold off the RimX because it jammed too often and it was too hard to clear. The extractor is fixed, so you cannot close the bolt if a round is already in the chamber. The idea is that it is controlled round feed and as long as it feeds perfectly from the magazine, all is well. Problem is that now and then a round will jump in front and get into the bore ahead of the extractor. Then there is no way the bolt can pull the round out. You will need a knife or dental pick to get the hot round out of the chamber. It's a critical design flaw in my opinion, but if you drive the bolt hard enough you can minimize the frequency of a fail. Good luck with it though. These days I'm running a Vudoo and I'm very happy with it.
