    Only thing I would change is a stair instead of a latter. Bunk bed latter is a pain in the butt and you will get into accident more often than you think. And those sharp corners at the latter entrance is gonna hurt.

      @thebrokenmasterpiece I was making several mistakes that was causing me to get a poor finish. 1) Not thinning by 10% with mineral spirits. 2) not filtering the poly 3) not cleaning my gun between coats with acetone instead of soap and water. The gun was spitting. 4) not spraying inside the garage to prevent bugs.

    I used a foam roller to apply the BIN shellac and it’s just so patchy and so difficult to work with, I can’t afford a new sprayer for just shellac, do you have any tips as to why it’s so patchy? Is it ok if it’s a bit patchy even after 2 coats? Thank you

    This is frustrating because I just primed an antique desk with two coats of the Kilz 3 and got bleed through. BUT I also primed an antique China cabinet and the doors and drawer front of a corner cabinet and haven’t noticed any so now I’m like ???

    • @swjeke
      @swjeke 5 днів тому

      @@thebrokenmasterpiece well honestly, I put another coat on and waited a few days and it looks fine. But since you’ve been kind enough to reply, I have another question. I primed a piece and watched several videos where people were layering a couple colors of chalk paint and then applying vaseline around the edges, painting over it and then wiping off to give a chippy look. I got adventurous and thought I would try this. I meant to do one drawer to see how I would like it. Well, apparently my early onset dementia kicked in and I marked up the whole piece and all the drawers in spots with two different colors. I did one drawer last night with the vaseline and wiped the paint today and don’t really care for it. I’d rather paint the whole piece white and just distress and or use antiquing wax. Now what do I do about all the spots I’ve put the other colors? Do I have to sand it all off and start over? Yes, I’m a beginner and this is my journey of learning from my mistakes. 🤦‍♀️ Luckily the piece is for myself and not something I’m trying to sell. Please help. Lol

    • @704Church
      @704Church 5 днів тому

      @@swjeke oh goodness I have not seen the vasoline trick!!! I would wipe everything down with mineral spirits to make sure all the vasoline oil is removed. Let it dry and see if you can just give it a buff sand!! If needed, spray paint with that rustleum paint and primer any area where it took off all the paint completely. Then buff sand that to make it all uniform. Should be able to paint over that!!!!

    • @swjeke
      @swjeke 5 днів тому

      @@704Church well I only did the one drawer with the vaseline. But painted the rest of the drawers and the desk in random spots on top of the white primer with a dark brown and grayish brown. No vaseline. Do I do another coat of primer over the dark spots and then paint white? I was worried just painting it white wouldn’t cover the darker areas and didn’t know if I had to sand the dark areas first and then prime again and paint.

    Is it ok to scuff sand with grit 120 before doing this? Or do you have the best results with the 180 like you used ? Thank you 😊

    • @thebrokenmasterpiece
      @thebrokenmasterpiece 11 днів тому

      i think 120 grit is too scratchy for just a buff sand. The best one to use is 180 prior to using gel stain IF you are just needing a buff sand. If you need to get down to the raw wood to get damage out - definitely use 120 then 150 then 180 before staining

  • @elettramia6380

    Well thank God I saw this because I had No clue the cleanup with a gun was so difficult 😬 would this be for all primers? Or just the shellac kind? Thank you

    • @thebrokenmasterpiece
      @thebrokenmasterpiece 11 днів тому

      its not terrible but the wagner is definitely easier to clean then the homeright!! BUT with shellac - gosh - every thing is hard to clean. You have to run denatured alcohol through the gun - wear respirator - wash everything out using big ol gloves. etc

      My Tips for Epoxy! 1) It's a SCIENCE! You have to follow the instructions to a T! Part A mixes with Part B. Simple. You need to pour EXACTLY the same amount of A/B into the mix cup and stir, and then I use a second mix cup to pour mix cup 1 into to continue stirring for an extra few minutes to make sure it's properly mixed. 2) Make sure layers are thin! Sand with 150 inbetween. IF sealing paper products and you dont want them antique looking, you have to seal those in with a poly beforehand so the resin does not seep underneath (darkening them) 3) Use a simple culinary torch to get all bubbles out! I would cap those bricks with some nice flush fitting stone. You out stones on then cut them fkush to the edge of brick or can leavi jt over hanging and i would also paint those mortar joints a darker color like a dark maroon or black. Looks good. Nut house paints hide the natural pores of brick and will trap moisture in and not let it breath alwys use a real brick stain not regular paint

    Did you need to thin the paint?

      It would have probably run fine but when it's too thick, too thick of a layer goes on and it gets that orange peel look

Check every ten minutes for an hour after to pop those bubbles See my affiliate link where I have all my epoxy supplies in a list for you! geni.us/epoxysupplieslist

    "budget" would have been using better joints that didn't require all the extra screws and hardware brackets.

      it's not a bad bed frame, don't get me wrong, i'm looking to do something similar for the kiddo, just don't think this is as "budget" as the description says. mortise and tenon for the 2x4s would work, but requires a bit more work.
