Hi I'm Marco Lueck, the founder of Water Dragon Arts. (www.waterdragonarts.com) WDA is about the open minded exploration of the internal martial arts and healing arts. I practice and teach traditional Chinese practices such as Qigong (Chi Kung) and Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and hold space for sharing of personal experiences, knowledge and progress within this community. I place particular importance to an authentic and demystified teaching method, without much esotericism.
Qigong Exercise - Detailed explanation from a physiological point of view
This exercise is great to open the chest cavity, lower back and learn the basic Qigong principles. It's great to unbind tissues around the lungs (and side rib cage) which will help deepen the breath. You can fight fatigue, short breath and anxiety. Additionally you're lubricating your shoulder joints, supplying them with nutrients and dissolving chronic tension in the shoulder, upper back and chest.

The entire Water Dragon Arts curriculum in one comprehensive course: www.waterdragonarts.com/en/online-courses/qigong-step-by-step
In this video I explain a simple Qigong exercise from a physiological perspective. I noticed that some people who have not yet experienced Qi within their bodies, or who might approach Qigong with a very sceptical or preoccupied mind, have a hard time learning this art. The Qigong jargon (terminology) might put them off, especially if the teacher gives instructions in a very traditional and esoteric way. - Honestly, I can totally relate to this. Sometimes I find myself stuck in my ways, too. But looking back, usually the most growth happened when I decided to "empty my cup".
The traditional instructions convey lot's of important information. It's of great help to approach Qigong in an open-minded fashion. Be curious and allow yourself to experience whatever might happen. - Without too much intellectualizing.
What will happen? You will make your own personal experiences and realize that there is more to your body and mind than what "meets the eye".
However, this video is for those who need some more tangible cues and instructions to feel and practice qigong. I like to combine the traditional approach with a terminology that is easier for people to grasp. Ultimately this will help you to shape your understanding of the practice. Once you will make your personal experiences within your own body, you will surely be curious to dive deeper into this fantastic ancient Chinese healing art.

Your channel will be benefited by those who don't understand the chinese language well like me. Hope to see more. Thank-you!
Very helpfull Explanation together with the Book "The Way of Energy" by Master Lam Kam Chuen, thx a lot
i don't understand some things about energy cultivation, my initial understanding was that energy centers and meridians are just.... there, like your kidneys and lungs, they are how your energy body is formed. through practices you simply cleanse these channels so they run and good health forms, and then charge centers with energy to have more. however i have recently been exposed to ideas like "opening" and "creating". this implies these centers never just existed, you essentially created them. you have to "create" a dan tien, does that mean i could put a dan tien anywhere i want? in my balls? in my shoulders? if i have to "activate" or "open" a channel then it didn't exist or do anything with energy before i did that right? i thought it was always there i'm just exercising it to have more energy and work better? are you just essentially creating thought forms of energy in random parts of your body? or is that just actually how your energy body just was since birth and you exercise it to work better and have more energy in it?
Woowie this made me realize how out of wack my body is. I had a sense of it especially energetically mentally. Still, my lower back hurttt and my feet were discolored. Will do research into how this can heal self induced bodily trauma
Which posture stance training allows you to see human aura?
I am grateful for finding you today. Thank you ☃️
thank you for this - i heard it heals RLS restless legs
Too slow.
Thanks for educating
So helpful, thanks
Southern Shaolin yijinjing is also a martial art system. I have the whole Chinese book on this version of yijinjing.
Thank you for your very clear explanations
TY for sharing!
Wonderful explanation! Thank you so much...
Without trying to bash you, this impression of zz is stuck in external method and has limited results. My teachers are the Hans themselves. Wangs adopted son and he was there when Chen yen tong and Wang rediscovered zz. It was lost in 1920. Only xing yi kept the San ti shi zz. But that was already veering into external only. Internal is from feeling to shape. External is here, make a shape. My teacher was there and his son now has the lineage. It is not taught with balls or time duration. The transmission is internal.
With all due respect, every House claims theirs is legitimate and most effective and blah blah blah. What more important is sharing what you know to the public, like this guy Marco.
Great Thanks
Nice stuff. I've got a background in CMC Yang style (37 short form) so slightly different, but very cool
Cool. Came for the kua video think I'll stick around.
Nice Thanks
What is the sign when you know that the catchment area has been created properly? I learned pretty much this same method in the zhong yuan lei fa lineage but they never pointed out how you can tell when the sphere container has really been achieved.
looks like a former gang member if u ask me
Thank you
Excellent video (part 1 too!)
So ultimately your are relaxing and let your weight drop/sink your weight trough the segments of the kinetic chain into the ground right? I always focused on "folding the kua" which caused a lot of tension. When I simply dropped relaxed starting from my ankle and relaxing all other parts of the chain it was effortles and the pelvis sank naturally and was ultimately carried by my feet. Can you please share your view on that?
Krishna guruvayoorappa 😂😊
Thank You for a vivid, imaginative explanation of what happens to our body when we have little exercise. I also understand that many sequences of qigong exercises, which, for example, are gentle, as if one were floating in space, calm the body and, combined with breathing, change these "stagnant" places in our body through this movement and breathing. :)
Just looked at your site. You are the first i have seen to cover maodun zhuang in zz in the west. It is a very basic practice but useful. Well done. Btw, do you have right shoulder tension? It seems higher.
Marco, that was explained very well. Thank you for this video. I'm glad you've broken it down rather than using traditional vague explanations.
And how do you sink the qi? By mind intent?
Another example of waffle that could be expressed more clearly in 5 mins!!
SHOW MORE. Talk less.
This is exactly how I was taught to do this, but it took a while to be able to let go and release sufficiently in order to relax the muscles, which is an ongoing practice. You explain it very well and the use of the balls and string works very well. Another prop to use, when trying to convey the hip joint connection, is to use a small ball and a funnel. This works very well to show how the ball of the femur bone locates, but can move freely, within the hip socket (the funnel). A teacher I know here in Spain, Manolo Mazón, first showed me this last year and it has been a very helpful visual aid for teaching and practising. In recent years, I found myself being asked to teach a little bit, so this analogy of sitting on a ledge or bench is what I use to convey this principle. I usually find that students benefit from loosening exercises to help them begin to relax. Just saying to relax doesn't help much when people don't really know how to relax. My current teacher, Master Ch'ng Ley Seng, when I first started studying with him in 2020, placed a lot of emphasis on what he calls "correct sitting". It is a fundamental principle that permeates Tai Chi practice and training. He is always reminding me of this, and many other things too.
I’m am so fortunate to have found your channel! You are an excellent teacher! Thank you
Too many words distracts.
Hi! Great content! I have a question. Is the Kua supossed to de sinked during the whole movement? Or when the posture goes higher is it ok to "unsink"?
I’m writing this because I think you have a lot of knowledge and are deeply committed to the practice. I think you’re a well-meaning and experienced teacher but you talk too much and you go into so many unnecessary details that in the end it becomes offputting. As you know Our bodies are not mechanical machines. They are made up of free, flowing energy. While, I always look for different teachers to learn more. My principal teacher is Lee Holden, who teaches from Santa Cruz, California. He teaches zoom classes to beginners and highly experienced students at the same time. You learn by doing and feeling your Chi and not by incessant description of mechanical body details. I spent a lot of time, many months , over a period of four years, in Santa Cruz, working personally with Lee Holden and I can say with absolute and complete confidence that he is “a sneaky genius“. What I mean by this is he wears a T-shirt, a pair of slacks, and speaks in a very simple manner, but behind this unbelievable, simple manner is a deep and profound master teacher. Over 30 years ago when he came to teach, he said his idea was to bring qigong to the west and make it accessible for the average person and not for a few elite. I would suggest that for two weeks you take a look at how Master Lee Holden teaches. It doesn’t cost you anything no credit card at all but two free weeks of classes, three times a week on zoom. You might learn something to make your knowledge more accessible then as offputting as it now is to the average person. But then, of course, you may only want to speak to an elite few, which is how some master teachers like to teach. What Lee Holden is teaching is thatQigong is no longer for the few elite. .
Without the kua is open, don’t think you will sit in the kua. Also the relaxation of the hips is not you are able to move them left and right, it’s measured by if you turn your torso without extra force but by shifting your weight.
Very nice explanation, thank you for sharing. Out of curiosity have you seen Damo Mitchell?
Great details, who did you from?
amazing tutorial... but I think for beginners it is too much to integrate... try to make it simple for the beginner to start off....
Zhan Zhuang Fa was never a part of Taijie practice. It was introduced by Master Wang Xianngzhai , the founder of Yiquan, in the 1920ties, that's why outside of Yiquan, Zhan Zhuang Fa has become very distorted and has being hijacked by the so called Qigong practitioners.
it is NOT okay to lean forward! very bad instructions
I have a question: what is the difference between WuJi exercise and Zhan Zhunag exercise?
Wuji means emptiness. Wuji is the starting position of all arts. Usually a standing upright with small positional adjustments. Zhan Zhuang is the term used to describe Standing Posture Practise. The martial art that primarily uses Zhang Zhuang is Yiquan. If your practise involves using imagination of forces, hugging trees or balancing glass balls between the armpits, you are doing Yiquan.
Ya know what I despise about “Caucasian raised” people? They go into other cultures religions arts and beliefs learn a little bit then proclaim to be better or know more than the culture that developed it in the first place…assmonkeys
Good stuff. It's nice to see proper instruction that circulates on youtube.
Thank You.
So beautifully and clearly explained, thank you so much ❤️ 🥰 🙏
very helpful, thank you:)
