Rivals of Aether 2 Clairen Moveset Overview: First Impressions
Переглядів 2862 місяці тому
Going over my first impressions of Clairen's moveset in the Rivals of Aether 2 NextFest Demo.
Rivals of aether isn’t new, it’s just melee again. And most fighting game knowledge transfers
Legal pm 🤫
I think the main issue with the lack of skins applicable for each event is just that we're at the start of the game's life and there aren't that many skins in general. When we inevitably revisit themes like "Summer", "Halloween", "Winter" in following years there'll be a lot more to pick and choose from.
That's a good point. Maybe this same time next year it won't be as much of an issue.
Also movement is very much easier in Rivals than Melee. So its give a melee pros one less thing to worry
Yeah, the melee, pm, and RoA 1 players scaled in RoA2 so fast from their previous exp.
Think about it this way...what exactly are you punishing? The first thing you punish in fighting games is the enemy's movement. If they move into a spot where they are easily able to be hit by you, you use that information to attack. This is the most fundamental tactic in EVERY fighting game ever created. RoA just ramps up the speed in which this tactic is employed.
You're exactly right! First thing we learn in any game is how to move and then interact with other entities.
FINALLY SOMEONE MADE A VIDEO ABOUT THIS TOPIC, I’VE SAYING SUCH. It seriously annoys me how people dismiss movement options as a “cheap melee” thing, without learning all of the nuances. The main reason why many Platfrom Fighters feature such tech is to enhance the existence of stages and platforms in the first place. Without them, you run into the “sticky Platform” problem: Standing on platforms being entirely disadvantage due to the lack of advantage tech, in this case movement.
Thank you for the kind words! I have a backlog of these topics and was trying out making some storytelling. I think I should give this type of format some more TLC and try making some more.
very true, tho it was a bit disappointing to wait 3-4 minutes for you to start to say "why". I think you could demonstrate your points better with some custom clips that talk more about positioning, tech, and other things you feel relevant to your audience. this seems to be targetted to rivals players, so rivals 2 comp clips were great, but maybe after introducing your point on movement you could show clips with bad vs. good movement, bad vs. good spacing, and a few examples. something to take home with the video that's tangible and can be practiced. good vid man!
Thanks for the feedback! I'll try to make it more "tangible" in the future. 🙏 I'm ngl I had debated scraping this video because I was unhappy with the scripting but decided to throw on some random edits and just hit send. But that is all to say yes, your feedback is poignant to what I felt as well. I appreciate your comment
I just picked up a guilekeys GK21. I’m still learning the webconfig, but I can pretty much map any button to anything. Haven’t figured out how to add modifiers yet, but I have 2 tilt buttons for LS and RS inputs. And if I press both the tilt buttons, it changes RS to DPad while holding them. It’s a pretty neat controller, especially for the price. This is my first time playing rivals too, so I really have no idea where to map the buttons.
That controller sounds like it has a busted ceiling for configs 🫨 I'd keep tinkering to see if you can find some game breaking stuff!
is underrated better then better?
They are about the same. I feel like they can only get better as time goes on.
I just received the GRAM Slim. I can't seem to run using it. All my movement keys only can make me walk. I have auto walk off and no modifier buttons I use make me run. D pad movement makes me run if I hold the modifier down and use the C-Stick. Any Ideas?
Try changing the stick sensitivity it might be the values on your gram. Lower them until it give you a run.
Ayyyyy GRAM mentioned. I love my Custom GRAM controller. Its def on the more affordable end of leverless controllers with great support from guys behind it. Also love my progcc. Its a super easy mod to do with very little experience to DIY since there is no soldering involved. But ultimately GCC is my true love
I love switching around controllers cause they all feel different to mess around with.
@@PixelBBee Thank you for giving us a try, love the vid!
Thank you for all of the love! ♥ Your DIY GRAM projects have been so sick, thanks for being awesome!
On Xbox I map Jump to RT, short hop to RB, grab to Y, shield to LT, and parry to LB.
Do you have rb as short hop for rising short hop aerials?
I've been searching high and low for people's takes on what a decent smash-style-leverless setup for rivals 2 is and this is the most detailed one i've seen yet, thanks. Only question I have is how do you up-smash in the air as Wrastor if the c-stick buttons (on Adaptive, for his dash-tilts) are normal attacks in the air? Seems really really awkward to hold the bottom right pinky button while pressing the top ring finger button. *edit* Testing it out, just setting c-stick to 'strong' lets him still do tilts out of dash and smashes in the air so I guess that's the ideal now? lol.. I might be missing something though.
I use tap strong and change grab's air command as neutral air. This makes it to where you can use the pinki for up smash or just do a normal up smash input to get that but then have buttons for full drift nair and tilts in the air with adaptive. In the original script I wanted to talk more about how wrastor would require specific controls for him specifically but I opted not to get too in the weeds. Realistically, putting strong for c stick can be ideal.
For GameCube, I recommend having A and B as their regular attack and special, and z jump. I have both triggers bound to shield to make wavedash out of shield easier, and because of you have two shield inputs held you can’t spotdodge and can shield drop. I also have X and Y bound to parry and grab, note just for those actions (which you could do just by pressing A or B with a shield input), but also for doing aerial Nairs or Neutral-Bs while holding full drift. And I have c-stick set to strong attack, because I don’t have a strong attack face button bound, and partially because that’s how it is in melee, and partially because I found it didn’t take that long to get used to after spending a long time with tilt stick on in ult For a regular controller, you could go with a similar layout but I would recommend moving either parry or grab to the second bumper and freeing up the face button for whatever you want. Something like a strong attack face button with tilt stick.
That's a unique set up. Do you hit 2 shield buttons for every single wavedash? Or just for specific scenarios?
@ I’ve been mainly using the left trigger, but I think that’s partially due to muscle memory and using my right index for z-jump. I use both triggers just for shielding into wavedash and shield dropping
Sleeping on the m30 fight pads
😭 I have never seen this before omg it's so sick!!!
Coming back To this after trying my own leverless. Here is a short list of challenges and ease of use moves i made. Any tips appreciated Easy to perform: dash dance, moonwalk, wave dash, ledge dash, RAR, tilt out of run Hard to perform: retreating aerials, in place aerials, angled moves(ex: fleet up special cancels), turn around in place, walk
What type of leverless are you using?
@ I use the Zappa
You'll have to assign a walk modifier to one of your buttons in order to walk. That will also allow you to turn around. As for retreating and in place air attacks, since you don't have a right stick like a b0xx or frame 1 you'll need to input the aerial sequence with the walk mod as fast as possible.
@ thx for the tips. I have the walk button now but find it unnatural as hell lol
You can turn on auto walk and the mod button will become a run button if that helps.
you actually dont need to solder to make your own custom leverless controller. just get wires with quick disconnects and use arcade buttons (there are arcade button housings that can take any kind of keyboard switch you want like gamerfinger) and its extremely simple and easy no soldering reqiured. speaking from personal experience
🤣 then there is literally no reason not to own a box!!!! That's awesome. Thanks for letting me know! 🙏🏽
@@PixelBBee no problem happy i could help!
why you gonna do the gram slim like that and show B stock footage haha Btw for anyone looking for a leverless right now, look into the Gram slim. Speaking as someone who bought one 2+ weeks ago, they are readily available, cheap, have amazing build quality, and have (from my experience) the most professional company standing behind it of all the platform fighter leverless companies. I do think there is one major downside right now, which is software support. If you just want to play on default Rivals 2 layout like most people then this doesn't matter, but if you want to do a custom layout it is currently a pain to modify.
I just ripped photos off the website 😅 Got nothing but love for the Gram. 🫶
We are just so happy that you're loving your GRAM! Thank you for the kind words!

Where is my ps4 controller😢
Feel free to replace the ps5 controller with the ps4 controller. 🤫
Victrix BFG Pro has the best back paddles of any controller ive used and allows you to fully customize every input you want, while being ergonomic and quite sturdy. Definetly better than the GCN controller I used for years
Wow! Seeing all these comments has really opened my eyes to just how many cool controllers are on the market. 🧐
@PixelBBee Victrix is especially cool cuz it has modular parts, you can have a PS4 layout, Xbox layout, remove the right-stick for 6 big microswitch face buttons. different profiles, stick rubbers (converse/concave), and you can even set a prefered depth of L2/R2 pressed. Incredible controller
I’m looking at that controller too with the PS4/PS5 variant and then getting the Hall effect modules to eliminate stick drift. The modules have issues with the Xbox version of the controller though. A Hall Effect leverless would probably trump that to be fair.
I've been using the Nyxi Warrior, and it's been amazing for everything EXCEPT the snapback. It's essentially a wireless GC controller but it has Hall Effect Joysticks, a left shoulder button, swappable controller gates (octagonal vs circular), adjustable shoulder button depth, and some other general features. However I can't consistently baby dash, I'll go maybe 2 or three in one direction, but then snapback will give me a pivot the other direction. I've even adjusted the deadzones to try and prevent it and it just snaps too far. As I said, I love everything else about it, and if you play GC I def recommend it, but the snapback is a struggle lol.
I HATE snapback. The more I hear about nyxi the more I'm thinking about getting it on black friday!
is this tier list in reverse
Yes. 🥸
keyboard is interesting im currently playing rivals 2 with keyboard and i will say i just cant go back to controller anymore cuz it feels so slow moving the L-stick. the only real drawback i can think of that keyboard has is wavedash back since you'd either need to do a half circle motion or quarter circle motion to do it or use the walk modifer to do wavedash back (though from what i tested out on controller this problem also kinda exist but it isnt as prominent since you input the downback motion and inputs for wavedash fast. you can still do that on keyboard but it is pretty unrealiable). baby dashing is definitly possible though you do need to like tap the key fast and have it sort of do a half way input to get a baby dash. other than that it just the adjustment period and also something kinda curse that i do is that i remove the keys i dont use and change my spacebar's cap with like the shift key cap.
I had the same issue with wavedash back on my leverless. The way I "fixed" it is by jumping first then inputting back. But the way you described also was working for me! Stealing it! 😯
I switched over to leverless for ultimate about a month before rivals came out. I played some of the betas on controller, but leverless just feels better IMO. They should definitely implement some rules for leverless, seeing as keyboard uses neutral socd but there isn't a standard for open source haybox controllers. Another downside with box is doing slight DI angles. Hitting 45 degrees is trivial, but doing any angle between 0 and 45 is way more difficult than on a standard controller
Yeah, leverless is the way to go for sure! 👍 Hopefully the devs implement something game side cause I would hate to have to check every leverless for software as a TO
Gamesir G7 HE for the boiz!
That's a nice looking controller!
@PixelBBee Has paddles, Hall effect sticks, so no drift. Not notchable but the low-friction rings around the sticks make it super smooth. The HE version has tactile buttons which feel so much more responsive than normal membrane buttons to me. The SE has the normal buttons if that's what you prefer. Wired only, which i prefer, but costs only $45 on amazon. I also have a Satisfye Glyph pre ordered which should feel like a box controller with keyboard switches and has a lot of features
As a Keyboard player, we are currently missing the ability to bind Taunts, bind keys for the Menu, and doing FTilts and Dairs can be unreliable, as every key is a full tilt, so in order to do them you have to use the Walk Modifier, which has a learning curve, as currently there is no *Double Tap to Run* in the game, so yeah. I'm glad you esteem our controller and put it high on the list, but the current drawbacks do make it a bit more unwieldy to new players, or returning players from Rivals 1 for that matter... Which is weird to see, as Rivals 1 did have full Keyboard support, and is what I used for the entirety of the game, so it's really strange they would just forget about it like this.
It's really strange how Rivals 2 doesn't have keyboard controls like Rivals 1, I hope they fix that ASAP!the keyboard should be as good as a leverless. 😤
you can assign right stick down for Dairs without fastfalling. Aaaaand, they have just released a patch to assign taunt multiple buttons
@@ПавелРазувайло i was so happy when i saw that patch because the amount of times i have accidentally taunted mid-combo is insane
Keyboards and leverless might just be the future peope are just opposed to learn
For sure! I am sure there will be some keyboard players appearing from the new gen roa2 players 💯
I have to disagree with the Keyboard placement. I tried to use mine for a joke and BabyDashing was virtually impossible...
I appreciate the comment! In the future if a keyboard warrior doesn't rise to showcase it I'll give it up. 😭
Yeah I noticed the same thing. I guess it depends on your keyboard switches. Mine are MX browns
@biggestmvp1 I'm using Razer Greens, there's no physical way to press and release a direction within 3 frames.
this really has nothing to do with keyboard and everything to do with your switches (you guys already said that, ignore me)
@chocomilkfps1264 yeah it seems it's only possible with linear switches which is kinda annoying...
I just use a Xbox series controller with a few added parts to make it feel more Gamecuber. Its pretty cost effective if you get one cheap from amazon or ebay. Xbox cocntroller - 44$ SCUF Pro Triggers Grip Kit- 24$ = Gives the controller trigger stops. Octagonal Gated Sticks Accent Rings- 10$ - Easy way to makes the stick octagonal. optional - GameSir Thumb Grip Pack-12$ If I wanted to go further I would probably solder in Hall sticks or TMR. But by itself just feels right for me personally.
That sounds like a good controller for any game! 🙏🏽
I made a boxx for like 20$
WOW! That's even better than I thought. 😲
NYXI?
High key looks like a controller I would use. Better tier if the build quality is good.
@PixelBBee I have the NYXI Warrior I bought specifically for Rivals. I love it.
@@xephyr417 I might have to get myself one! i think the split controller would go hard for my switch.
@@PixelBBee the Wizard splits to dock with the switch, but I can't remember if it also connects to PC. Make sure to check. A small thing they don't advertise, but I loved, is that the face buttons on the controller click like a mouse click. Super fast and responsive and clicky clicky. Not like any other controller I've had.
Could you put links where to buy all these options?
Great suggestion, I can make an update shortly. 🫡
Updated the description with the link!!! enjoy browsing!
Anyone recommend a controller that doesn't have a huge stick radius? Maybe I'll get another nintendo pro for pc. The stick radius on the ps5 feels ginormous and the triggers for shield don't feel great.
Switch Pro Controller has a nice smaller form factor. You could alternatively mess around with stick height/ toppers on your PS5 controller first to see if that helps with the problem.
@@PixelBBee I could always dust off the old fight stick that I haven't used since guilty gear xrd. Could make for an interesting evening lol. Thx for the reply!
Have fun! If the fight stick doesn't have analog input for a control stick, remember you can assign a walk mod to a button. 🙏🏽
The best is whichever you like. Clickbait bull.
The best will always be what you enjoy the most, but I think when talking about absolutes, leverless will always have an inherent advantage.
lol I loved the "snapback" in the intro. I giggled.
Thank you! I am hoping to add more meme edits in the future. 😎
@ but also great vid!
keyboard doesn't work on linux. not "any computer"
That's strange. Thanks for the info! Hope that changes for the Linux users.🙂↕️
It works fine for me even on Wayland. Just use proton experimental.
My keyboard works with the game, I am using Bazzite and proton experimental
Ive been debating trying to swap to my hitbox. Not having a c stick just feels unnatural for me. Like do extra DI tool and aerial drift manipulation
Yeah, the hitbox is definitely hard to get your mind around. It will be hard because every input has to be relearned but luckily, RoA2 was a head of the curve and added a walk mod, tilts, and Strongs button inputs for more accurate output once you get the hang of things. 🫡 it's 100 % worth!
what’s a good xbox controller with back buttons/ paddles?
Definitely better tier. Second best depending on controller body preference. 👍
@ thank u but meant like do u have any recommendations so i can buy one
In that case, it depends on budget. If you want something substantial, and scuf instinct/instinct pro is really good. Xbox has their own elite controller if you want a stock controller. If you want something cheap, most power A controllers have buttons on the back but they wear out quickly. Personally scuf was my choice when I was playing apex legends.
@@PixelBBee thank u!
could you make a video of your leverless layout for rivals? getting mine soon so itd be nice to get an idea of how people have theirs mapped
Sure! That sounds like a fun ideal. 😁
Update! I made the video. 🥳 ua-cam.com/video/r5WQnSHUDvc/v-deo.html
Dan said on X that the 20% coin earnings in the starter bundle does last forever btw. I think the starter bundle is a great deal tho. Anyone could just buy that and nothing else and unlock a good amount of stuff over time from the coin shop.
Thank you for the confirmation of the indefinite 20% buff to coin via the starter pack. I don't have a X so I didn't know! 😅
At this price im not buying shit
I understand the sentiment. I feel like skins used to be fairly priced at 4.99, but they've been jumping every couple of years
Can you explain what tilt boosting is?
Like in a video? If you want it in text, it's when you use the momentum of your jab to boost your tilts. This means while you are performing a jab, you press a tilt to retain that momentum while throwing out said tilt. Hope that helps!
@@PixelBBee so is that basically just cancelling jabs combos into tilts?
Yes! You can see a lot with kraggs at top level but it can be helpful for all characters
I like that you mentioned that you don’t have to spend money to be supporting the Developers because time is something you can never get back so paying for the game just being invested and maybe talking to other people about it and going to events and all this other stuff is more than support in my eyes
I'm glad you feel the same way! I hope that rivals will continue to grow with passion from the community. 😄
The 500 coins continue infinitely after level 21, so you should probably mention that.
I had no clue that was the case! I'll mention it in the next event as I assume they'll do a similar BP system.
once you complete the pass, it's just 500 gold per level. im on level 56, and nothing new has shown up
my brother in christ, you're playing too much. lvl 56 on a battle pass thats only a couple days old is obtuse
@pinecrustjuise it's a good game :)
i think there's a vid somewhere on what you get at what level. not sure.
😂 There ain't no way! I think I am at like level 20. I guess I don't got that dog in me like you!
Let me know when you stop leveling up, My guess it might happen at level 100
zetter's dash attack up strong combo is actually a special case that rivals calls a gatling, much like the same term used in traditional 2D fighting games. He still has a dacus, but his gatling combo of dash attack -> up strong only works on hit whereas his dacus works like everyone else's where the dash attack wont come out.
Sounds like gattlings from anime fighters inspired the mechanic. Thanks for the info! 🤝🤝🤝
Moonwalks can also be done with a half circle up to avoid falling through platforms
Ooooo, I didn't know you could do it with the upper gates. That's awesome! 😲
great video ❤❤
Glad you liked it! 😄 I am going to be doing one every event!
Casual gold player here, this vid is a great rundown of the event, would’ve bought the halloween bundle if I knew about them calculations, I kinda started tweaking when you accidentally said the low poly bundle had 250,000 coins I was wondering how I managed to spend that amount on just leon clairen. Aside from that buying this bundle actually got me to start playing ranno because I started with smash 64 this event just hit too close to home. Again great video and I hope to see more like it
WHOOPS 🤪 that'd be a 25$ steal now wouldn't it!
Heres a usefull movement tech that makes use of the Walk modifier (just makes it easier). Its a way to ledge trump easily if youre at a bit farther distance from the ledge that a wavedash would t reach. So you basically start running towards the ledge. Before you even make it there, you hold the walk modifier button. Then as you approach the ledge, execute a turn skid. Normally a running skid prevents you from dropping down, but because youre transitioning from a run to a walk, somehow that turns off the ledge barrier.
That's actually really cool! I'll be sure to use it in a future video about the walk modifier. ( I'll include a screenshot of this comment.) Thank you!
Former melee player here, this game has so many melee-isms and I love it. Appreciate the DACUS knowledge <3 ! I didn't know it wasn't only Zetter who could make use of it since his is a special case and I didn't get to testing everything yet. Much love!
Zetter's dacus is called a gattling in the last game because he could do that delayed up smash. I love the melee and PM DNA in this game, it makes stage traversal feel so fluid. 😍
