Ended up disorientated by the constant flickering back and forth of the cursor across the screen. Might be OK for you, but not so good for a viewer of the tutorial,. Cheers GrahamB
The connecting rod is attached to the crankshaft. When the crankshaft rotates, the connecting rod will collide with the shaft. See 19 min 50 sec. Best regards
this is just to demonstrate the kinematics of FreeCad Assembly workbench. Thanks for pointing out this... I will fix it.
@@cadzis673 I understand. You are doing a good job and I thank you very much for that. Just move the shaft to the left so that it does not collide with the connecting rod. Best regards
But rotation of this mechanism is not possible! Try to fix it. Best regards!
It can be rotated
It is possible to rotate. Watch the video again
It is possible to rotate.
so good, thank you
sure... thank you
CADZIS great video learnt and followed to a T. I want to asked, using the same video and Shapebinder making holes, or cuts, if they will scale on the lid or base after adjusting the size
Thanks for your comment. It should scale if you build your model correctly as described in the video.
TNX CAN I DEFINED COORDINATE SYSTEM WHICH ARE NOT ORTHNORMAL?
I think you are asking about cylindrical co-ordinate system... Check the Freecad webpage. Not sure this is available in Freecad
wonderfull man
Thank you for your comment... I will be posting more videos.
so clear and so helpful. thank you
Thank you
good tutorial! I only knew how to use the subshape binder
Thank for the comment…. Will post more FreeCad videos
This was probably the best Shape Binder tutorial ...of the 6 I have watched so far. Thank you
Great... Thanks for the comment... I will posting more videos...
Excellent, thank you! I’m looking forward to 0.22 / 1.0 with the new sketcher constraints magic wand tool.
Thank you
Great video explaining the concept and the workings.
Thank you for your comment
good vi
Thanks… I will be posting more videos.
at minute 1:21, the line of poly line become horizontal, without lose poly line mode.... how do you do this ? Thanks in advance
After a few tries I figured it out. before pressing M, the point must already be horizontal to the previous one, then press M, then mouse left click.
I have auto constraining on… so any line that is close being horizontal, FreeCad will put a horizontal constraint. Hope this answer your question.
He didn't explain this, but the grid toggle is not available in Sketcher mode. You have to create a new toolbar by right clicking the toolbar and adding the grid toggle from the Draft section.
Can you do this with imported parts?
Yea… watch my other video on imported parts
TLDR: Scale object to 0.001
Very nice. Thank you.
Thank you for your comment. I will be posting more videos.
Pls, could you shorten the video?
It is short video
I cannot move (drag) a part in the assembly with the left mouse button to spread parts of each other. Can you give a solution to slide a part as you do ? Thank you
Have you activated the assembly... that may be the problem... Watch my videos carefully. If the assembly is not activated... then click on it again to activate. Hope this help.
@@cadzis673 The reason is we have to move the parts in two steps, the first one is to move it under the file of the assembly and move once again this time under the Assembly node. And I forgot the second and last step. 😆
Very interesting to know that FreeCAD's assembly is here closer the mechanical principle connection that we learn in school. Using the last stable release I was wondering why FreeCAD uses local systems and not like Inventor or SolidWorks the connections with freedom degrees ! So with this tutorial you brought the answer. Thank you. 👍
Yes, current released FreeCad version is still using very old school LCS approach which is a real hassle. Watch some of my previous FreeCad assembly videos and you will understand. With FreeCad ver 22 things going to improve.
Muchas gracias, me ha servido de maravilla este método!!
I am glad this video helped you. Thank you for comment!

Could you also bind via a constraint formula in the dimensions, referring to the other sketch?

Thanks. I thought I knew this from watching 5 hours of other videos. Now I really understand.
Great… thank you for commenting on your success.
Wow! Thanks. This was the best freecad video I have seen. I have spent about 80 hours watching and trying other videos and I have learned more from you in 14 minutes.
Thank you for your review…. I will be creating more videos… I want to gauge viewers interest … Let me know which FreeCad areas you will be interests in … FreeCad has different areas such as Sketch, Assembly, Part Design, Render, Drafting…. etc
I don't like using faces of bodies to orient other sketches. I've had nothing but problems with doing this, due to the topological naming problem, which decides to show its ugly head later in the project, when it becomes a nightmare to try and correct. I've been burnt too many times by this. I learned the hard way to keep references to shapes separated from bodies and surfaces. Ok to link to external geometry in another sketch, but not to other bodies or surfaces - nothing but trouble IMHO. Hopefully, the topological naming problem will be substantially reduced in future versions of FreeCAD. I know they are working on it, but it is not an easy problem to solve. BTW, Your videos are really good, and I learn a lot from them. Thanks.
I agree… attaching to faces could lead to downstream topo issues. Thank you for your comment. It is helpful to others to hear from experienced FreeCad user like you. I encourage viewers to leave comments and share your experience…
How are you able to just click on things and move them around?
in order to move a body, left click on the body to select and right click and select transform and that will show a co-ordinate system from which you select the direction to move or rotate.
this is probably best way to make lids fast. thanks for sharing this information.
You bet!
but using this method, the cover lid won't fit if this box is 3d printed. We need some clearance. How can we do that using shapebinders?
Hello … yes, that is understandable. I would recommend modifying the shape binder with a sketch. Then you modify the sketch with clearance. Let me know if this is not clear and I will create quick tutorial…
@@cadzis673 Thanks for the kind reply. Yes, for inner area, we have to use sub-shape binder and create a sketch over it with 0.4mm clearance. And outer area can be used directly by a shape binder. Just did the exercise. I've been using sub-shape binder only but knowing how i could use a shape binder is a good thing to know. e.g. in this case, i used a shape binder for quickly making an object.
Excellent video and this feature is quite handy. I can see many use cases. Thanks for sharing it.
Glad it was helpful!

Hello. If I want to extract volume(bottle of exhaust/intake manifol of car) I need to plug all the outlets of the solid model, then (theoretically speking) erase one outside surface of the solid, which will make the entire outside of the solid model to fall apart and create only surfacessss and then the inside volume should stay as a solid. I can then use it as a model for the casting core and also test the volume of the bottle....I just cannot find anywhere (user forums or youtube vids.), how to erase a surface from the solid body. Do you have any solution?
