How I Refill 1lb Propane Tanks
Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 роки тому
Another topic that has been covered by many folks on UA-cam, but this is my setup and process for refilling 1lb propane tanks commonly used for lanterns, camp stoves, etc. I built a custom apparatus that simplifies the process compared to the common 1piece brass adapters found at many retailers. Note: there are Federal regulations pertaining to the transport of these tanks if refilled. Also, th...
FIELD TEST - Diesel Heater In-a-Box
Переглядів 30 тис.2 роки тому
I tested my diesel heater in-a-box this past weekend while ice fishing on Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Wyoming for 3 days. Camped on ice that was 9 inches thick and the heater ran great. Very pleased with the results. Ran the heater without recirculating air and temps were pretty cold outside overnight. Next trip I will test with recirculating air to see how much less fuel and power it will use t...
UPDATE: Frabill Predator Sleeper Shanty
Переглядів 24 тис.2 роки тому
This is an update to the Frabil Predator ice shanty that I modified a while ago. I have made some additional mods to use as a "sleeper" shanty or base camp for multi-day ice fishing trips. Still want to add some kind of shelf above the table to store items, but overall...this is a really comfortable way to camp on the ice and maximize fishing time! Enjoy....and hope this inspires you...

A Better 12-volt Diesel Heater In A Box?
Переглядів 34 тис.2 роки тому
So, here's my take on building a portable 12-volt diesel heater in a box. I know there are plenty of other similar videos out there, but I incorporated a number of good ideas from some of them to build mine. I built this one primarily to heat my Frabil Predator ice fishing pop-over that I have been modifying to use as a sleeper shanty. Check out the initial build on my channel and watch for an ...
Frabill Predator flipover Mods
Переглядів 15 тис.5 років тому
Tour of my new Frabill Predator 4255 flipover with custom mods. Have used in on the ice now and she worked out great! Looking forward to her first over-night adventure as a sleeper shanty on Flaming Gorge.
Man I wish we had these portable diesel heaters back in the 80s would have been great in our ice shanty’s !
If you hooked up a pipe to the intake on the heater and put that in the tent it would be a lot more efficient and you could run it on a lower setting.
As noted in the comments, that is exactly what I do.
Buy a tripod - unwatchable!
So.. looks like @RichardOutdoors is one of those milktoast trollers that posts comments to make themselves feel accomplished? If you don't like the video, great.. to each his own. But what do you get out of a meaningless comment like that? Someone takes a little time to share a project with others, with nothing to gain other than sharing, and you are now some kind of digital media voice we should care about?
How do you have the ratchet straps set up?
Any issues with the carrier ?
Nope, still going strong. Just use a hitch tightener and it's rock solid. Heard some folks having issues with theirs but that's because they used a regular cargo carrier...I used the one made for carrying electric wheelchairs/scooters. It has a heavier duty metal plate underneath the rack
Looks nice. I've noticed you didn't provide any ventilation for the box. How hot does it get inside with lid closed? You could take the intake filter and put it on directly onto bottom of the heater intake. Just provide some ventilation. Hcalory came out with pre installed heater in a case. Some what flimsey. I think I'll use Ridgid tool case for mine.
Yeah, I had planned to redo the combustion air intake to be inside the box with just a vent installed on the side of the box....but to be honest it has been running perfectly so it is low on the priority list. I would like to eleominate the need to plug that intake filter on when setting up. The heat inside is actually minimal...like just above body heat range.
I think a metal box would work better (plastic can be brittle and melts dealing with higher temps) I would go that route if used outside for ice fishing or camping.
The Plano boxes don't get brittle and nothing hot touches the box to melt it.
What an AWESOME setup! Look forward to more videos of you using it. New sub.
Love the mods
Really like your flip over set up. Very clean and organized. Working on mine and planning to put together a diesel heater for it. Have referred back to your video a couple times. Great job.
Awesome video. I am planning on doing the exact same thing in a Ridgid Pro 2.0 medium tool box. The part that has me stumped is the different rigid fuel line kits out there. The most recommended kit I have seen seems to have 2 different sizes of tubing, one 4mm OD and one 5mm OD. I am not sure why you would need 2 different sizes when the ID is the same. This would also require different sized connecting rubber tubes. What kit or list of parts did you use? Also, what fuel filter? Thanks.
Didn't have to get a separate kit..I made sure the heater that I purchased came with the rigid fuel line already. Fuel filter came with it as well.
Whoops spoke to soon great job
Great job. Muffler needs to slope for drainage and the hole in the muffler housing needs to be down also
Have you made any updates to this setup? I am basing my build around yours and would love to hear about what worked/didn't work.
Honestly, I have made no changes and it runs great. I do use the additional hose to recirculate air from the tent which has reduced fuel and power consumption as I can run on lower setting.
@@hardh2ofishin857 glad to hear it!
I have an old (2014) Apple Server Tower that would have made an EXCELLENT case for the heater...go rid it 2 months ago :(
perfect for one!
What kind of flange did you use to connect the combustion intake filter to the box?
What size box is it
Hi! Just wondering how the thru-hull fitting has worked, did the plastic case hold up?
Yep no issues. The outer edge that touches the plastic box barely gets warm.
@@hardh2ofishin857that's awesome! Considering a similar build, thanks for making this video.
Any updates to this build? Anything that you would do differently? Thanks great content
See the another video on my channel of the field test. No issues and currently wouldn't change a thing. I do run an air hose to recirculate the air and so I usually only need to run on setting 2 or 3. ua-cam.com/video/1_xMTLKIlBs/v-deo.htmlsi=TxHLOx9xMnMhnMGC
I miss frabil, have not seen them at stores for a few years now, my 1st flip was the aegis, forgot they were the 1st with the side door and that shack is gigantic and perfect for ice camping
What gauge wire does the controller need? Like to run it 10 to 15 feet.
Excellent work
Thanks for you vidéos, how did you make your connector 12v for your jackery, does it change the capacity for amps, ? i made à cigarette lighther 12 v with my ecoflow and thé diesel heather draws too much amps, so thé éco flow stops. I Didn’t thought make that type of connector
Can you use a smaller jackery to run the heater? How loud is it? Want ot do stealth camping in the city, but concerted that people in the neighbourhood would hear it. Did the second muffler help?
The heat comes out at about 180 degrees your going to cook inside that tent this is not a heater for a small tent ! Trust me it’s waaaaaaayyyy over kill
Thanks for taking the time post this, really nice all in one build. Have you had any issues with the plastic heat exhaust flanges melting? One of the flange reviews indicates they had that problem.
I've also had issued using the 12v cigarette plug for power. What did you use to run it off your jackery? Could you include a link to what you bought?
Good job smarty pants! I think it might work better if you turn the sled around so that you drive onto the curve slanted side first. Works good the way you have it but might be smoother without the sled hobbling around the way it does driving onto the the back side or the 90° edge.
Yeah, tried that first. But then the Snowdog doesn't sit in the sled right. The way the track is on the snowdog, it "ramps up " at the front to climb and stay on top of the snow and that matches the sled design. Because my snowdog is the full track (not the compact one) it just barely fits the way I have it configured now I to the sled. When I do as you suggested, it doesn't fit into the sled.
How many hours of operation does this run on one tank of gas, ( your size )
Consider me inspired. Nice work!
My opinion is that warm air should always be pushed from the bottom of the room, and according to the laws of physics, it will then go up. Less fuel would be used for heating and the temperature would be more evenly and comfortably distributed.
What about a link to the electrical connections? Thanks
Great video, where did you buy the machine? I’m in Utah as well.
Would only recommend small trailer! To much risk involved with a 500 pound cargo hitch hauling a 340 pound machine over bumps and uneven roads.
Wonderful looking setup. I just spent my first two nights on the ice and was pretty miserable so always good to see some ideas to make it better.
What unit is the one you purchased. Does not look like thd Vevor. Thanks
Nice set up. What’s the size and brand of your table?
Very nice job!
I would add a fuel shut off valve that way if you suddenly loose power it won't fry the ECU.
Great video buddy 😊
Great build, thanks for sharing! What is that 12V Connection you use to connect power on the side? Maybe you have Amazon Link?
Thanks for the video! I just ordered a jackery 550 and a diesel heater, cant wait to use them
So based on battery consumption would you be comfortable on a 3 day trip?
Yep, running on lower setting with recirculating the air I ran it 3 full nights last season and only depleted the Jackery 500 to 47%.
@hardh2ofishin857 perfect thank you.....I think you have the only video on diesel heaters with actual consumption stats. I have been looking everywhere. Thanks for the content it's great stuff.
Just got a diesel heater and I really like your build. This video is awesome for me, you did an excellent job explaining and showing everything. Take care my friend!!
I'm from wyoming too. Is your sled long enough that you don't have so squish in? I have the ice hunter 285 and i think its the same sled
Damn that’s nice
Out'a sight!!
Wow…sometimes UA-cam suggests something that makes me wonder how it knows me so well. Amazing…I love that floor
Good fishing set up, and thanks for the diesel heater revue.
