I’ve carried for over 30 years. I’m not afraid of carrying with one in the chamber since I carried as a cop in NYC in the 90’s. I do not like leaving a weapon with a round in the chamber if it’s not on my person, even if it’s in the safe. So I do clear the chamber before the gun goes in the safe. That means bullet setback could happen with repeated chamberings. I do rotate my rounds though. Yeah, I would leave the chamber loaded on my duty gun as it hung in my locker in the precinct but not in a safe in my house that the kids could potentially get into. I frequently carry a revolver just for ease of unloading and loading.

Have you always had the mindset to have a round chambered or is this a sign of the times we live in? I do agree with you, to train and be safe while traveling. Unfortunately a bad situation can happen anywhere anytime. It is sad we have to have this talk in our country, but needed.

I agree about shot placement being first concern. For years I used to carry a 22 revolver in my car and used to feel it was adequate. It wasn't until more recent times that I felt the need to change my car gun to a 9mm and started carrying a pocket gun in 380 auto. 380 is about as much recoil as I can handle in a mouse gun and still have good shot placement. I feel it's more important to stay within your limit than to have the biggest round on the block.

I am 53. I have been carrying and shooting 1911-DA/SA for a long time. I bought my 1st Glock 19 in May of 2024. I should've bought one many years ago, and I was one of those hard-headed people who hated Glock. I never shot a Glock until 2023- that is how stubborn I was. Now, I carry and go to training classes. Sorry, Glock, it took me this long to understand why your platform is reliable and a staple for so many!🎉🎉🎉

During my competitive years, the Glocks I purchased and competed with performed as good or better than my most expensive custom guns. The difference was my custom stuff was 3,000 to 5,000 and Glock was under $400 and I rarely did anything to them. Competed with the Glocks right out of the box. The difference in cost paved the way for lots of practice. If someone doesn't like them, there are other choices which might fit them better.

as a hunter ,tracker, with over 45years experience and knowledge of reloading many, many calibers and when possible retrieving bullets checking retaining weights and expansion I have taken deer from 22lr to 50 cal muzzle loaders. I would point out my 22mag bolt action has taken many game animals in my state which is legal. here many hunters take deer with 22lr and 22mag. my daddy killed so many hogs and beef cows with a 6 in barrel 22lr revolver. many farm livestock taken every year for the freezer with a old single shot 22lr or 22 short. my point is as I've always believed if it can kill a250_400 lb hog and a 1000 pound beef then it can be used in self defense. one exception, I don't and will not own one of the little mouse guns. only around 35 to 60 ft/lb energy. I won't go shorter than 3in barrel 22lr in any pistols or revolvers. with the selection of 22lr today with 3 in barrel energy ranges 75_ 118 or so ft/ lb energy. I enjoy your videos..papa wishing you well. 😊

I have a serious question about "carry rotation". Why have a rotation at all? I admit that I am not as well-versed in guns and do not know what many of your viewers already know regarding concealed carry so this might be a stupid question, but it would seem to me that once you have settled on a firearm that you are most proficient with and best fulfills all of the other criteria such as grip, carry comfort, mag capacity, and concealment, why would you want to swap it out with other guns on a rotational basis? It would seem to me that there is, for non-experts like myself, an inherent danger to be found in confusing one gun with another in a critical situation; for instance, my Beretta 92 has a safety / de-cocker and my Sig P229 doesn't. When I pull the Beretta my thumb is immediately going forward to disengage the safety on the draw. In a critical situation, when the adrenaline is up and the threat of death rules the hour the momentary confusion of not finding a safety under my thumb could distract me enough to lessen my advantage. This not be limited to a safety, but to any differences between one gun and another in the carry rotation. It would seem to me that one should practice extensively with one and only one gun model to carry - the BEST all around gun for each individual's personal requirements, and then perhaps buy two or even three of the same model in the event that problems develop with the first gun and if anything rotate _those_ guns until the muscle memory of the model of firearm you are using becomes a natural extension of the hand. What am I missing here? I would be the last person on earth to criticize anything you say in these videos, but I simply don't understand the whole "Rotation" philosophy.

I can see how a novice might be highly anxious in a scenario that caused them to draw their weapon for the first time ever under duress and accidentally putting their finger on the trigger while racking the slide. That's why I taught my wife who is a novice to be comfortable from the beginning with a round loaded. We did buy her a P365 with mechanical safety but that is something she is also training to.

One in the chamber, in an appendix carry holster, daily, for 19+ years. Never given it a second thought. Just train regularly, stay fit, and don’t get sloppy. My opinion on this is if you can’t confidently carry with one in the chamber you’re not ready to carry.

Glock is certainly "relevant" (to me) - I have a G26 and a G29, and they're great pistols which are accurate, easy carry, nice capacity, powerful, reliable and moderately price (compared to other brands). Glock is like the "1911 of more modern guns" and they'll still be (mostly) the same (like the 1911) when they celebrate their 100th birthday (assuming The World hasn't ended before then).

I carry a 1911 cocked and locked. It can't fire until the safety is dropped, which takes a 10th of a second and can be done with one hand. There's no time to rack a slide in a real situation, forget it. Just carry something safe enough to keep chambered. Problem solved. Oh, capacity problems... Go 2011 double stack. It still has a manual safety. Carry cocked and locked. Safe as can be.

I went decades without a handgun and when I bought one for bear defense I started educating myself on gun safety, culture, etiquette, etc. my philosophy developed quickly to the view that since I own a gun, I might as well always have it on me just in case, and I should have one in the chamber just in case, but before this comes the finger off the trigger always until… philosophy
