Welcome to my channel.
My name is Adrian and I started my apprenticeship in 2001, started my own company in 2005 and now I have gone into teaching. I've made a lot of mistakes along the way and now I would like to get some of that knowledge down to try and help others avoid the mistakes .
I'm not saying that my way is right, I'm just a naturally reflective person and try to improve on what went right, and what went wrong.
I started teaching electrical apprentices in 2019, and I thought I could further help their knowledge and understanding by creating these videos to supplement the college/work training that they are receiving.
I then thought that I could share these videos with the wider electrical community so that others can benefit from my knowledge and experience.
I hope you enjoy my channel

Hello, My name is Adrian Davey and I've been an electrician since 2001. In that time I have seen the construction industry become reduced to what it is today and you know it's bad when new-build properties have a reputation for being the worst. My defining moment was a 1-year-old new build that could have killed the family and three young daughters. Despite my best efforts as an ethical tradesp...

This is video one, which is an introduction to the problems that I see in the electrical industry and ideas on how I believe we can change them. My defining moment was in 2018 when I tried to report a new build property that was the most dangerous I have ever seen. The family was getting electric shocks off of the wetroom shower and the electrician told them it was only a small voltage.. 70V! W...

Very nice video thanks Very understanding 👍 well explain with Very well detail easy to understand. Thanks
Great tips - cheers dude
Thanks
I started my college course in 1970 and it took me 4.5 years to become an electrician , you only git paid the electricians rate if your employer deems you are good enough and to become an approved electrician you had to have 2 more years of experience onsite to qualify for that rate, once you become an approved electrician you have to be responsible for 5 other workers including apprentices and you would not be paid an extra rate up and above your approved rate to get additional money you would have to become a chargehand or a foreman , you couldnt become an approved electrician until you reached the age of 22 and if you wanted to be a technician you would have had to have passed the C course college but you cant become one officially until you have reached the age of 27,from what i hear tiday its a farce, sparks are being screwed by those in control of this industry forcing workers to pass more and more courses and repeat these again after a couple of years, its just a money making scam , i was an industrial JIB gold card electrician for 50 years and i proved myself more than competent not only to carry out any electrical task but to run upto 35 men and sometimes more on sites and i carried out full testing for some of the largest electrical companies in England yet i never had a test and inspection certificate nor the foremans certificate and never took either course not only that i only ever git upto passing my 15th edtion regulations certificate although that was mainly because i was working out of town for a different branch of my company at the time these exams were going on, ive sacked electricians who had test and inspection certificates because either they were not as good in practice as they were in the classromm when they were put under the pressure of time restraints ,so im now glad that im retired because i feel i worked in the best decades of this once great industry in the 79s and 80s sadly now this industry is a pale shadow of what it once was, with all the goid sparks forced into selfbemployment to be exploited by agencies and electrical companies, your welcome to the what i call a shitshiw.
do you run training centre ?
Hi Adrian, thanks for your videos. They are very helpful for many like me I am learning so much from it. I am currently doing 2365 level 2 Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9 just like you 😂 I know level 2 and level 3 in next year and half will get me nowhere so I am looking to get into onsite experience as early as possible. I even tried volunteering for a qualified electrician but he can’t be bothered as I can’t work for free for more than a day in a week and he isn’t interested. I am looking for trainee electrician jobs and they all seem to ask that I should have an ECS card but I found out that I can’t have that without an employer 🤦♂️ What do I do? I am 37 and I want to be qualified at least by the time I am 40. It seems that if I get an ECS card I will probably get a job and then of course by working on sites I will be able to my evidence for portfolio etc. I am stuck right now any sort of advice would be massively appreciated!!
Far too much bullshit talking. Get to it
I am a new subscriber and at first solved the problem without looking at how you solved it and found another way. By percentages. Using the value of resistor 3 and its voltage 54.88V and 28 Ohms, Rt = 56ohms and so to get V total. 54.88 X 2 = 109.76 V. 56ohms / 28ohms is 50% of the voltage drop. Then divided 109.76 by 56 to get the volts per ohm = 1.96ohms. After that its just multiplication to get R1 and R2 at 13.72 and 41.16 respectively. Then using Vt/Rt = It 109.76/56 = 1.96a. Notice how the amps and volts per ohm are the same.
I know I'm late to the party as this video was posted 3 years ago at the time of watching this. Jon of the certificates are invalid you are indeed qualified for the modules you sat, however as you said not fully qualified the difference being where as the modules have a blue ribbon to be fully qualified and say the course is completed you need the red ribbon on the certificate. Whilst I'm not an electrician I did a print finishing course like you I got the blue ribbons as you go along but the red one shows that you did the whole house and submitted your portfolio. Just to make others aware when watching this video.
what about the boiler stats?
7:00 LMAO the dude who tried to get me to go back after GCSEs ended up in prison for child touches.. needless to say I didn't go back for my A levels
Is testing in insulation resistance for short circuit correct I tested at neutral and earth got no reading at every other reading I got <999 is this the correct way to fault find for short circuit ?
Hi mate imvinca similar position i would like to set up a protest at the city and guild head office to stop this scam, would u be interesting in joining?
quality
Thanks its really simplified work form i have enjoyed it
i really rate these boards. the cover fits on so easily which pay for its self in my book
Good video, Adrian.
Adrian thank you so much again. i am watching all of your videos and i can clearly say that you are the best
I have had the exact same. This is shocking. City and Guilds and government should sort this out and we should compensated
very informative knowlegeful video, i come acroos some people who take money and offer you JIB Gold card , did some have know about that..?
1.26.30 maths = 0.1 Ohms not 0.01 Ohms. Thank you in any case for you vid!
Passed everything but the fault finding part which I found the easiest out the lot so don’t be complacent. I didn’t use the correct terminology but after two days of having to do the am2 while I had food poisoning and a migraine I was just happy I only failed one part. I’m not nervous about doing the resit I’m weirdly looking forward to it as I’m game now
Thanks, brother, for this great explanation.
Why do you use ring circuits so much in Britain? Is it worth it to use thinner wires? In my opinion rings are very dangerous becouse you never spot a fault right away. Appliances keep working until some wiring somewhere melts down. You are then at risk of a fire or an electric shock, any of these can kill you. In the Czech Republic (and all the mainland EU) we use only radial circuits, 1,5mm2 wire for lights and 2,5mm2 for 230V 16A sockets. By the way, your way of explaining things is brilliant!
Experience over anything. Highly recommend your 2391-52 to really expand your knowledge. I was taught some bad habits before doing this course and teaches you how to inspect and test properly ! Never stop learning
Your explanation is brilliant my friend . Thankyou so , so much
Well done, learning the formulas makes sense, then it doesn't matter what is in the question. Great idea Adrian!
Best teacher ever!💯🙏
I agree! 👍
I in the same boat, and have testing and 18th edition
I’m in the same boat , started back in early 2000s at 38 , I was lucky I got a spark to give me a start on his firm , I went and done my part p and 16th , I was with him for 12 years , that’s experience you can’t get at collage , I’m now trying to reg with napit or Nic , but can’t , I’ve not been in the industry for over 20years , but not sure now what to do , a lot of people like me will be lost to the industry with a lot of experience , I think a lot of these body’s just want paper work , even when you have an assessment ( which I have with Nic , ) all they want to look at his all your paper work is in order , they don’t really wanna seen any of your work , like 1st fix of a job 2nd , should be more like the building control and have a look at your jobs at different stages and different types of jobs over the year , make them earn the money we pay them to be registered with them ( just a thought )
Great vid , by the way
Same boat as a lot of you guys , wanted to retrain in early 2000s in my late 30s at the time , got a start with an electrician , great man , he took a chance on me , I went to collage done my 16th ed , and then went on to do the part P course to be a domestic installer , I spent 12 years with that old spark and he taught me more than any collage did , I’ve been in the industry now for over 20 years , I now wanna register with Napit or Nic , but I can’t , cuz they now want an nvq level 3 , back in the day if you had your part p and the latest bs7671 you where a competent person , but now I’m not , so all the years of work experience counts for nothing , I know you need a standard , but it’s not all about certificates ,
Brilliant job well done. Loved listening to you lately on Fix radio
Excellent video.
Just a question regarding IR test on the ring circuit, How can i identify which leg from the board is supplying which half of the circuit? As both line conductors will be connected at the circuit breaker together.
Should have showed a 100A double pole isolator switch before tails went into the consumer unit in your diagrams it's the best practice so it's the wrong diagrams for the learners
Hi Adrian . I hope you doing well. I have been watching your UA-cam channel but unfortunately have never put any comments which is not fair. I would like to thank you for the time you invest for all the great videos . Your videos, it’s does help and make a difference to our life . I am truly appreciate it from bottom of my heart and grateful for all the hard work . I wish you all the best and happiness. THANK YOU .
You are more than welcome, thank you for taking the time to post such a positive comment 👊
Sir just come across your video, was going to do electrical installation level 1 at college but at 35 it too late
another great video thank you
You need make more videos and seriously you channel deserves better numbers . I can hobestly say the content is outstanding and the maths work you do i just get how you describe it a massive thank you
I wish this had been shown to me like this before, legend and it makes sense
Thank you for this excellent video I finally get it
i use fluke t6-1000 and it got banana plug also comes with crocodile clips and agree, it is a great feature
Excellent Vids. Appreciated. A good refresher for me.
I had a similar experience back in 2008. I did a training course over 2 weeks part P course and did the regs exam and then put myself forward for the testing and inspection. Passed all and thought I could be a spark. Only later did I find out I wasn't qualified fully. I then went back to college and did level 2 and level 3, luckily while doing level 3 I was told I had to do an ncq to be fully qualified, this was before the am2 was introduced. A lot of the guys did not do it and I imagine they found themselves on your situation down the line. I'm glad I did it back then. I'm now currently doing my 2396 and got a Merit in the exam. Hopefully I can put a decent portfolio together. I'm only doing it now as I have to show some sign of competency in signing off site designs for the company I work for.
Hi Adrian very detailed explanation.. I have 1 question hope you can answer when testing at the ceiling rose I presume you disconnect the cable when testing to avoid parallel paths.. can you please confirm.. or am I missing something here.. and what if the light socket only has only cable.. I presume the supply is at the light switch.. which I have found on many new builds
You're a legend! I've been practising what I learnt in the last videos and feeling really confident thanks to these lessons. I had been considering hiring a tutor to help me to understand transposition and in 2 days I've gone from feeling lost and dumb to feeling confident. I really can't thank you enough!
I'm so unbelievably stoked. You are an incredible teacher. Thank you so much
Thanks so much, I have been feeling so lost with transposition as an electrician apprentice and this was invaluable in helping me understand how to transpose equations. Will be practicing with what you've taught here, and then moving to the next video! ❤
Clear and concise! Great use of references! Thanks for sharing!
