Pretending To Be Normal; Part 5; Autism Superpowers
In parts 1-4 of my Pretending To Be Normal series I've talked through the struggles that people like me face being autistic in a neurotypical world.
In part 5 I focus on the positives of having autism and the superpowers that people like me have thanks to our autism including hyperfocus, acute hearing, lateral thinking, attention to detail, strong work ethic and an eidetic memory.
I also do a run through of some famous faces dead and alive who we know have/had autism or we're pretty sure they have/had autism because they showed a lot of the symptoms and traits.

Pretending To Be Normal; Part 4; Autistic Burnout

In part 4 of my pretending to be normal series I'm focusing on autistic burnout, which doesn't get much attention but plays a big part in the struggles we face. People like me with autism are having to mask our autistic symptoms and suppress our autistic traits on a daily basis to fit into this neurotypical world and appear more normal and this can be mentally and physically tiring because we'r...
Pretending To Be Normal; Part 3; Social & Emotional Struggles

In part 3 of my pretending to be normal series I talk about the social and emotional struggles that people with autism face almost on a daily basis. The amygdala and the dorsal parietal region of the brain are less active in the autistic brain than they are in the neurotypical brain. This means we struggle in social situations and we struggle to handle emotional signals from other people as wel...

In Part 2 of my Pretending To Be Normal series I'm focusing of hypersensitivity and how people with autism are undersensitive or oversensitive to sensory information. Not so long ago the national drink of Scotland was neither Whisky or Buckfast or even Irn Bru but a wine like drink called Bland made from fermented Whey. Before I became lactose intolerant and subsequently vegan I wanted to make it. I used to make Kefir and Kefir cheese but I can't have it anymore. A superb video none the less.

      Glad you enjoyed the video. After learning more about imposter syndrome I think it's a good thing to have, cause it means you're a good person and you want to do your best and do what's right. But at the same time you need to keep reminding yourself that a lot of what you're thinking is internal and if you ask people what they think of you, you'll be pleasantly surprised at their answers.

      Brilliant to hear you're getting into fermentation. As we're learning now, everything starts in the gut and fermented foods are the best foods to eat to feed your good microbes. Wow…so glad I found your Chanel. I have a nephew that has been diagnosed at the age of 5 with Autism…he is a sweet boy. Extremely smart. Smarter than my sister and myself for sure. 🤪. He struggles with transitions and a little with eye contact. I notice when I visit it takes him about an hour to warm up to me even though he knows me well. I just give him time and space and let him warm up at his own pace and come to me, because he always does. His mom is a specialist in childhood education and teacher so is very in-tuned to his needs. I think he would be a 1 on the spectrum. Reading already at a 6th grade level so very high functioning. He tends to hyper focus on projects he is doing. I Love him so much, and I am so glad to hear your story and experience with this condition. Like I said…I came here for the Kefir video and stayed for the rest. I am going to recommend you to my sister. 😊 so nice to hear from someone who is experienced in the condition and not just a clinician. You have a valuable message for so many.

    I came for the kefir video and glad I stayed to listen to your story. 😊Many of us out here understand. I lost my father at 16 and mom at 22…I remember feeling so lost and depressed from grief…I didn’t plan my demise, but I didn’t care if I ever woke up. I prayed for sleep. It wasn’t clinical depression, but as I am older now, I assume it was severe grief, so,situational,depression but depression non the less as I was close to both of my parents. I eventually overcame it and have been fine since, but I never will forget that scary sad time. I never told anyone. I too enjoy hobbies and being busy. Started a business and found life is good once we accept our grief for what it is… You were brave to tell your family. It can be so hard because you think no one could possibly understand, but truly some of us really do. 😊

    Hey thank you! I've been using kefir milk to create more batches of kefir by simply adding a cup of kefir milk to regular store bought whole milk and it works! Just remove a cup of whole milk from a gallon and add a cup of kefir, let it sit on the counter until it gets thick and has that sour taste. Then toss it in the fridge to slow the fermentation and youre done! Def on my list to do it properly with grains! Tnx again!

    Do the kefir grains die when over fermented?

    • @MattyBsLifeSkills
      @MattyBsLifeSkills Місяць тому

      As long as you don't leave the grains in the over fermented kefir for more than a few days they'll be fine. Just make sure to give them fresh milk once the fermentation is done so they have more lactose to feed on.

    In my beginner journey into making kefir I learned through trial and error, my first attempts I sealed the jar, later on I learned kefir is aerobic (air breathing). My first, sealed jar attempts were very bitter/sour. My later batches, in a jar with a piece of paper towel and elastic band on top were much less acidic and creamier. 😋

    Matty, So just to be clear, instead of tablespoons, how many grams of Grains to ltr.of milk, also when buying grains, which to buy and which to avoid.

    • @MattyBsLifeSkills
      @MattyBsLifeSkills 3 місяці тому

      So, instead of thinking how much kefir grains to how much milk, instead think of how much kefir you want to make and how quickly you want to make it. The quicker you want the milk to ferment, the more grains you have per litre of milk and the warmer you make the environment where the milk is fermenting. So if I have enough kefir for a few days I'll put my milk and grains in the fridge. Hope this helps
