Pretending To Be Normal; Part 5; Autism Superpowers
In parts 1-4 of my Pretending To Be Normal series I've talked through the struggles that people like me face being autistic in a neurotypical world.
In part 5 I focus on the positives of having autism and the superpowers that people like me have thanks to our autism including hyperfocus, acute hearing, lateral thinking, attention to detail, strong work ethic and an eidetic memory.
I also do a run through of some famous faces dead and alive who we know have/had autism or we're pretty sure they have/had autism because they showed a lot of the symptoms and traits.

Pretending To Be Normal; Part 4; Autistic Burnout
Переглядів 6321 день тому
In part 4 of my pretending to be normal series I'm focusing on autistic burnout, which doesn't get much attention but plays a big part in the struggles we face. People like me with autism are having to mask our autistic symptoms and suppress our autistic traits on a daily basis to fit into this neurotypical world and appear more normal and this can be mentally and physically tiring because we'r...
Pretending To Be Normal; Part 3; Social & Emotional Struggles

In part 3 of my pretending to be normal series I talk about the social and emotional struggles that people with autism face almost on a daily basis. The amygdala and the dorsal parietal region of the brain are less active in the autistic brain than they are in the neurotypical brain. This means we struggle in social situations and we struggle to handle emotional signals from other people as wel...
Pretending To Be Normal Part 2; Autism Hypersensitivity
Переглядів 29Місяць тому
In Part 2 of my Pretending To Be Normal series I'm focusing of hypersensitivity and how people with autism are undersensitive or oversensitive to sensory information. The amygdala, which is the part of the brain that processes sensory information, is less active in someone with autism compared to the neurotypical brain so people with autism struggle at processing sensory information and can bec...

Matty B's Life Skills Introductory Video
Thank you 😊
You are a good teacher. Thank you!
I enjoyed this video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, it’s super helpful as I embark on my new kefir making journey:)
Thanks Matty, great video!
I love the sourness of kefir.
Can you make a video on how to quickly multiply the kefir grains. Thank you
Can you make a video on how to quickly grow the kefir grains. Thank you
Nice video, your voice is quite soothing
Very helpful! Thank you!
Not so long ago the national drink of Scotland was neither Whisky or Buckfast or even Irn Bru but a wine like drink called Bland made from fermented Whey. Before I became lactose intolerant and subsequently vegan I wanted to make it. I used to make Kefir and Kefir cheese but I can't have it anymore. A superb video none the less.
Working on kefir now…I’ll try this next. Thanks for the video. ☺️
I absolutely love your attitude…”you are unique and cannot be replaced” and it resonates ☺️
Glad you enjoyed the video. After learning more about imposter syndrome I think it's a good thing to have, cause it means you're a good person and you want to do your best and do what's right. But at the same time you need to keep reminding yourself that a lot of what you're thinking is internal and if you ask people what they think of you, you'll be pleasantly surprised at their answers.
Your channel is so good…I hope it grows as you can reach and educate so many people from personal experience and show how to succeed and be happy.
Aww, thank you so much for your kind words. Amazing to think I started this channel 9 months ago and now I have over 300 subscribers. You're spot on, hopefully that number keeps going up so more people can learn the life skills I've learned that helped me get to where I am.
Gardening is my happy place also…truly good for mental health.
😊
Loving your videos and learning so much. As I said in another comment on one of your other videos…I have a nephew that has been diagnosed. You are so self aware…more so than most of us “ neural typical”. Having a good support and family is so important. Thanks for your honesty and information ☺️
No problem, glad you're enjoying the videos and glad to see that me using my life experiences with autism to help others is making a difference.
All you say is true…I do a 16/8 intermittent fasting g daily…two meals…sometimes one. No processed food at all. A good diet is truly the spice of life.
Good for you. Without meaning to, I've lost weight by following the lessons in this video. Glad you enjoyed it.
I have my very first kefir fermenting as we speak…just got my grains…so excited. I have always made yogurt ….do a lot of gardening and want to make some fermented cabbage and other things. The process is fascinating. Wish me luck ☺️
Brilliant to hear you're getting into fermentation. As we're learning now, everything starts in the gut and fermented foods are the best foods to eat to feed your good microbes. In the coming weeks/months you should notice a difference in your skin, nails, hair and energy levels. Best of luck.
Wow…so glad I found your Chanel. I have a nephew that has been diagnosed at the age of 5 with Autism…he is a sweet boy. Extremely smart. Smarter than my sister and myself for sure. 🤪. He struggles with transitions and a little with eye contact. I notice when I visit it takes him about an hour to warm up to me even though he knows me well. I just give him time and space and let him warm up at his own pace and come to me, because he always does. His mom is a specialist in childhood education and teacher so is very in-tuned to his needs. I think he would be a 1 on the spectrum. Reading already at a 6th grade level so very high functioning. He tends to hyper focus on projects he is doing. I Love him so much, and I am so glad to hear your story and experience with this condition. Like I said…I came here for the Kefir video and stayed for the rest. I am going to recommend you to my sister. 😊 so nice to hear from someone who is experienced in the condition and not just a clinician. You have a valuable message for so many.
Amazing feedback! Greatly appreciated. If I can help one person with autism to know they're autism shouldn't hold them back, to feel they can be their true selves and live a full life I've achieved my goal 😍
A very uplifting video…thanks so much☺️☺️☺️
I came for the kefir video and glad I stayed to listen to your story. 😊Many of us out here understand. I lost my father at 16 and mom at 22…I remember feeling so lost and depressed from grief…I didn’t plan my demise, but I didn’t care if I ever woke up. I prayed for sleep. It wasn’t clinical depression, but as I am older now, I assume it was severe grief, so,situational, depression but depression non the less as I was close to both of my parents. I eventually overcame it and have been fine since, but I never will forget that scary sad time. I never told anyone. I too enjoy hobbies and being busy. Started a business and found life is good once we accept our grief for what it is… You were brave to tell your family. It can be so hard because you think no one could possibly understand, but truly some of us really do. 😊
Woah, def love sriracha! You make it look so easy! Thank you sir! On the short list!👍
Very cool! I sub'd because of the kefir making video and this is a very cool follow up! Had no idea i could make fizzy drinks too, and cheese! Def going to try it! Thank you again! Good stuff👍
Hey thank you! I've been using kefir milk to create more batches of kefir by simply adding a cup of kefir milk to regular store bought whole milk and it works! Just remove a cup of whole milk from a gallon and add a cup of kefir, let it sit on the counter until it gets thick and has that sour taste. Then toss it in the fridge to slow the fermentation and youre done! Def on my list to do it properly with grains! Tnx again!
Great info. Thank you 🙏
Do the kefir grains die when over fermented?
As long as you don't leave the grains in the over fermented kefir for more than a few days they'll be fine. Just make sure to give them fresh milk once the fermentation is done so they have more lactose to feed on.
@@MattyBsLifeSkills Thank you for the reply. I will do that.
Thank you for sharing your experience with Impostor Syndrome. I especially appreciated how the letter, you wrote to yourself, helped you heal. I’ve been wanting to learn more about this syndrome since I first heard the term and your video was just what I needed to better understand the dynamics involved.
Glad the video was helpful. I've come to think now that it's better to have imposter syndrome than to not have it as it can mean that you want to get better and to be a good person.
Thank you for your good info.
You're videos are very informative! Thank you!
Great stuff thanks ❤
Thanks ❤
In my beginner journey into making kefir I learned through trial and error, my first attempts I sealed the jar, later on I learned kefir is aerobic (air breathing). My first, sealed jar attempts were very bitter/sour. My later batches, in a jar with a piece of paper towel and elastic band on top were much less acidic and creamier. 😋
Don’t double dip like Marty does unless it’s just you having it!
Made this. My husband loves it, I’m not so keen but do take some. It’s an acquired taste.
Yeah, it is very sour so I don't have it until I've flavoured it with an orange slice to make it sweeter.
Thank you for sharing. I agree! I think the world is a better place with you and other autistic people in it as well. I don’t know much about autism. Your video about kefir was recommended to me and I’m glad I found it. Thank you. Making a soda with the whey is a great idea😊
Amazing feedback! Thank you so much! Keep an eye out for autism videos I'll start uploading soon. Yeah, I love kefir soda! It's just like fizzy soda with the benefit of having all the healthy yeast and bacteria. My mum's noticed her hair is thicker and her nails are stronger since I introduced her to it.
Thanks! Fantastic good healthy information ❤ Keep up the good work
Breaveheart …❤…
Great video. Thank you ❤
Yogurt’s origin is Turkish.
Matty, So just to be clear, instead of tablespoons, how many grams of Grains to ltr.of milk, also when buying grains, which to buy and which to avoid.
So, instead of thinking how much kefir grains to how much milk, instead think of how much kefir you want to make and how quickly you want to make it. The quicker you want the milk to ferment, the more grains you have per litre of milk and the warmer you make the environment where the milk is fermenting. So if I have enough kefir for a few days I'll put my milk and grains in the fridge. Hope this helps
I never use a metal sieve. I use a jelly bag (jam).
Yeah, ideally you should use a plastic sieve but I've not found my metal one has harmed my grains at all and I only have my grains in the sieve for a few seconds.
Stainless is fine, don't use aluminum or other metals.
Great tips! I need to re-watch the part on Journaling and take some notes. Thanks Matty for sharing! God bless!
_Nice set of video ... _*_good on yuh buddy!_* ^5
Can we have the soda recipe. I get you use 50mls kefir whey with 300 mls of juice, but you don't tell us how much water you added to the bottle. Also what size bottles are you using?
I put my kefir soda in 500ml bottles with stoppers. Mix 40ml whey with 300ml fruit juice and 160ml filtered or bottled water.
@@MattyBsLifeSkillsthank you. Matty
1min 52 seconds - you washed that in tap water to get it that ''clean''.
You are so cute!!
Great job in the garden I also garden and find it to be therapeutic
Good, very clear video, thank you 👍🤓
awesome video
Nice vid.
