I just put the pieces on to see what it came with and what it all looks like. After this video I took some things apart and greased and put pace where it was needed. A couple small adjustments to the seat and handlebars is all it needed and torqued everythingto spec. The shifter and brakes worked great right out the box. I did go through a "bed in" process for the brakes.

Im an old BMX guy, 63, I only ride a SS rigid 26", 32/18
I like these a lot I wonder if they could be sprayed with Line X
@@jeffaquilino1806 Sure. I sprayed mine with Herculiner

I have the same bike i just cut all the cables and stripped it down im painting it teal yellow pink white splatter with fuji wheels fixie
I have a large Ultr set up with a Fox 34. TRP berakes. SLX shifter and XT rear der. ST swiss XM1700 and a ritchey seat post. Comes in a 24 lbs Panasonic 2.0" rear tire, 2.2 front. It is the perfect bike. If I could have only one bike to cover it all with naught but a tire change or a wheel change, This is the bike. Tom Ritchey designs bikes he would want to ride. It seems like he prefers a versatile bike that can cover a lot of different terrains. I have 3 Ritchey bikes and I built them all ground up. They are fabulous bikes. Road LOgic, Outback and Ultra.
Love em This the look i want for my Jeep jk those stock flares are 🤢 i can’t stand em
Very classy and classic bike. I like it. I just acquired one today myself
try some CREATIVE WHEELS
You can't go wrong with that bike
How do the look now and did all four come in or you have to buy front and rear separately
I still have them on the Jeep. They faded, and I sprayed them Herculiner, but I still have to keep some form of tire shine on them. They have kept their shape well, tho.
@@daledubose3032 I’m gonna order a some today
About how long did did it take to receive them
I really don't remember, it was about 5 years ago. I don't think it took long though.
Someone at work threw one of these out. The gears don’t switch too good Lil spring project
Do you know what brand the fork is? I'm striping down my 2009 GF Piranha and want to put a rigid fork on it. Can't find much advice on this.
Exotic Carbon Rigid MTB fork. Found on Amazon I think.
Thanksfor the review. I was looking at these for my 01 TJ. I'm still not sure about the finish but they look nice.
How tall are you?
5'11" and 7/8th. I've always claimed 6ft but I'm actually just s tad bit less. Inseam is about 32"
Can I ask what your seat height is set to (measured from the centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat straight up the seat post and tube)? Thanks!
Yeah, you'll have to give me a day or two. If I don't come back by Saturday, reply again to remind me.
29.5 inches, or 75cm
@@daledubose3032 awesome, thanks!
@@daledubose3032 can I ask you for one more measurement? I’m wondering the distance between the center of the rail clamps on top of the seat post to the center of the handlebars in the stem clamp. I’m trying to get a sense of the true total reach taking into account the full top tube length, seatpost setback, stem length, etc. You and I have a near identical seat height, so what you measure would be really close to what I would probably experience. Thanks again for your help!
@chrissa51 about 23.5 inches or 595mm
Nice build dad
Nice to see a vintage mountain bike being saved. I am a lot like you I look past the rust an dirt and see what the bike came be.
Dream bike
beautiful bike!
What’s the brand of rigid fork? What tires?
I have 2,a 92 and a 96. even the 96 had threaded headset but it was 1 1/8th not 1 inch like the older one. tough frames.
Looks great! Love that you saved the paint/graphics. It'd be hard to beat the look of those classic graphics.
I picked up a similar Hardrock in even better visual condition. I am doing a restore with replace wear bits, chain, cables, pads and upgrade saddle. Paint stem and bars. (2023) Later in year, over winter, cargo fork w20” front and 8 speed Alfine drive hub. The frame is in such prime condition is a great platform for a cargo bike.
Mine are on the way. I'm getting them painted because I saw they can fade a bit.
Just picked up one of these for $60 just started getting into bikes
Nice build! I did something similar to an old Gary Fisher Wahoo (2004, I think). 1x8 drivetrain, rigid steel fork, new brake levers and shifter, wider bars and saddle. I use it as a flat bar gravel bike. It had been sitting in my buddy's shed for 15 years and he finally broke down and gave it to me after years of "hey, what are you doing with that bike?" I love the 26s. I've thought about throwing a nicer SRAM drivetrain on it and some dirt drops. These older bikes are really versatile. Great platforms for whatever.
That isn't a factory side step...what brand rails are those?
It is factory 2013, 10th Anniversary Rubicon.
Jeep looks great. what's the actual width in inches of both front and rear fenders? thanks
Hi, thinking of doing my TJ flares, front and rear bumpers. Would you still recommend herculiner? Thanks for the video!
Yeah I would. I want to re-spray it now though. After 3-4 years I'd say it has held up very well. It has faded but there has been no chipping or peeling.
@@daledubose3032 Thank you!
Thanks. With your 40c Tyre on back.... would you say there is like a 1cm gap to chainstay? Just comparing to my bike now.... cheers
Something like that. I haven't had those wheels on in a while, I've had the road wheel set on for a year. I have two complete wheelsets for this bike, it's awesome 👌
Looks good! Are you still running stock rubicon wheels? Any wheel spacers? ✌🏻😎
No, those are aftermarket wheels. 17x9, with -12mm offset, I believe
What weight does the medium come in at?
I have a very similar bike, with 120mm Pikes, XX1 ASX RD, 150mm BikeYoke dropper, CC eeWings 170mm crankset, Thomson Ti bars, XT 4-pots w/180mm rotors, Chris King teal headset, to finish off the bling. First bike I've had with expensive carbon hoops, Enve AM30's with Specialized Fast Trak tyres and Cushcore XC inserts, which I can't recommend highly enough. I'm a big guy, 6', 115kg, tend to monster truck over the rough, plough through rock gardens, wanted strong wheels. The combination of quality steel frame, carbon rims, only 28 spokes, plus the Cushcore, delivers a superlative ride quality, absolutely amazing. I get all the benefits of a hardtail, that immediate, 100% power delivery, with a very supple ride, almost as if I had an inch of rear travel, without the bike being a wet noodle. I fell in love with mountain bike on a '97 M2 Stumpy, and after >20 years of riding big duallies, often heavy beast of things with too travel, just too much bike, coming back to a quality steel hardtail feels like returning home. I have a Lynskey GR260 gravel bike, but much like yourself, find myself taking the Ritchey out on gravel rides these days, as it's just as comfortable and much more capable, without a significant weight or efficiency penalty.
Hey Dale, How is the liner on those flares holding up?
It's still intact, but it has faded. I'm still happy with them for the money, but I sometimes wish I had metal with a powder coat or paint finish.
Curiuos what your stem and h-bar setup is on this? Considering shortening the cockpit on my inflite w the H31 Ergo that came stock. Assuming you changed yours as well?
The stem is stock, I don't remember the length. I've since swapped the bar for a wider 46cm with a similar reach as stock.
Hey buddy, do you know if your bike reach on a medium is 433? same as the 2022 model?
Yeah it's the same.
@Dale Dubose Great. I am 5'8 and bought a M. It should arrive in 2 days and was kind of nervous it was too small for me because of the reach
Steel, especially Ritchey is the way to go for a hardtail
What do you think about this frame vs specialized chisel ?
I'd take this Ritchey over three chisels.
If you are 182cm tall and size M, isn't it small?
I was right on the line and decided to go with the medium. I was lucky enough to test ride one from a fellow who lives near me. The medium on this bike was right for me. I now have a size large Ritchey, but not because I was unhappy with the size.
sid sl ultimate in blue matches perfect, I think. would love to see that on the newer ultra. I am back and forth between that same ultra or 5 year old 650b.
Putting a drop bar on a mtb doesn't make it a gravel bike, it just a hybrid bike. Gravel bike has a different symmetry.
Thanks for the owner review. Can't much on the Ultra. Did you say you fit a 29 x 3.5 on the back?
No, 29x2.35
That's a sweet hard tail bike very nice 👌
I guess you have to cut off the factory mounting brackets to use these? Look great and have been considering them
I did cot cut mine. I just hammered them up a little.
I have this same bike in stock form. Wanting to convert it to a gravel bike aswell
Hi Dale I was thinking about purchasing the neuron 6 as my first full suspension bike. I am just a bit hesitant as the head tube angle is quite steep, I was wondering how you find it, is it capable enough to give confidence in very steep trails, as I don’t want an XC feeling bike.
I bought this bike because I wanted more of a xc feel. It's quite capable though. Why not the Spectral for you? I've actually gone back to a hard tail now though. After a year with the Nueron I just never really enjoyed or use the full suspension as it was designed. I constantly found myself wanting to lock out the rear. So I figured it was better for me to go back to a hard tail.
@@daledubose3032 I was looking at the spectral 125 aswell but thought that the neuron would be better as the component were of a higher level. Thank you for your video and reply I have found it very helpful.
With 67.5 HTA Neuron is nimble and fast on terrain but it is nervous going downhill st speed. Many new bikes are coming with flip chips that allow geo change . . . Can see Canyon Lux trail and Spectral 125 squeezing out the Neuron line.
@@Michael-fi6ve I wonder if they will make a new more trail modern one?
I have 2021 Canyon Neuron AL 6. It’s an excellent bike and I believe Canyon is conservative when it comes to their “category rating” system. I’ve ran the bike way harder than it’s recommended with no issues or stress. I’ve had to change the Horstlink bolt out once, but if you keep an eye on it and tighten it before/after each ride it should be fine. All in all it’s a great bike and I keep up with my enduro bike riding colleagues on the trails no problem. I am curious whether it would be worth upgrading from my Rockshox Judy Silver to a Fox 34. I don’t necessarily need the added travel but I wonder if it would have less flex, more stiffness on turns and going downhill since it’s a larger and beefier fork.
Is your Judy a 32mm? Mine came with the beefier 35mm Pike. I'd agree that a 32mm would not be enough for this bike. 32s are seen as more of a cross-country fork I believe.
Fox 34 Rhythm on my AL 7 is awesome. Highly recommended u upgrade when u can.
How have these handled wear and tear? Any significant fading? Are you still happy with the purchase?
They have held there shape well. They did fade, I painted them with a spray on liner after about a year.
It looks nice
I got hold of a gary fisher big sur and put a bafang mid-drive motor on it and the bike is great I'm so happy i didn't choose a newer bike for this build because I love vintage bikes and thank you for inspiring me
