May 2024 Humble Choice Review: Steam Deck Edition | Humble Bundle
Been playing a bit of Marvel Rivals as well. Pretty fun game. I'm trash at it but I like trying the different heroes. I think, so far, my favorites have been Venom, Luna, and Thor. I really want to play Spiderman...but I just suck too much T_T
@@StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews The game has more depth than I expected. Venom, Luna and Thor are a lot of fun! I tried Spider-Man once but it did not go well 😅
big black deck
Hopefully some updates and patches come to make it more deck friendly
I hadn't considered that, but Deck-friendly updates would be very welcome and possibly help extend the game's life.
GE Proton devs are the greatest, thanks for the review.
@rickcornelissen3466 They truly are. Last I knew, it was just the one person who goes by the handle GloriousEgroll, hence the "GE".
@DeckHeadGaming he uses patches from other devs too. And credits them on his github. But he puts everything together.
Oh cool, I had no idea! Linux really is the Utopia of programming.
Zero Sievert had controller support for a while now. It's awful. Steam probably defaults to a community layout that binds keyboard controls instead because the default controller support is atrocious.
Makes perfect sense that Steam would default to KBM layout. Playing the game with a basic controller layout would be awful.
Bomb Rush cyberfunk is the only game that I seem to only care for on the list. Some of the games aren't bad not my cup of tea compare to that game.
A lot of other users are saying the same thing. Pretty unusual month in hindsight.
OMG! that's me! I had missed the bundle when that game was available but after a great year for Deck games in Humble Choice I think I'll go for the annual subscription
Congrats on winning the key! GotG is one of my most cherished gaming memories on the deck. You're going to have a lot of fun! The first level performs terribly on the deck but once you're passed it, it's smooth sailing.
this video got my deck on and I am ready to rock

Oh no...
Just got a steam deck and you've introduced me to humble bundles potential for it. Subscribed. Love this content!

@@raressuchea5971 I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Welcome to the channel!
Sold after the first game the rest are extras thx
Moonstone Island -yes please!
I'm surprised with how well Atlas Fallen seemed to hold up on the Deck! Especially since it doesn't seemed to have compromised that much in graphics for the sake of optimization. And lol, I didn't even think to mention the tech system in Old World. It's definitely different compared to other 4X games but I guess it didn't make that big of an impression on me. I was much more interested in the Crusader Kings aspect with the characters. I think Hexarchy felt more intuitive because it was designed to be so...which sounds stupid when I write that out because, of course. Although, what I mean is Hexarchy was made to be a game where you could play a match in 30 mins or less. Old World is much more complex and is something more akin to other 4X games where a match could take several hours if not even longer depending on settings. Every game should probably be intuitive enough, but Hexarchy moreso because of its quick nature vs. Old World which has more time to try and let players understand all the systems. Great review! A question for you though, on reddit, I had someone telling me they had problems on the Deck with Moonstone Island. Some stuttering issues or something? I'm assuming you didn't encounter that since you didn't mention it but figured I'd ask.
I was just as surprised with Atlas Fallen! Even the battery lasted a little longer than expected. Very fair point about Old World vs Hexarchy. Hexarchy was made to be a quick game, easier to pick up and put down, which would make it feel more accessible on the Deck. Funny you mention that about Moonstone Island. I had the FPS counter on the whole time and the deck didn't report any frame drops, but the actual gameplay did slow down to about 75% of the normal speed for about a second every 30 min or so, but this stuttering didn't appear to be showing in any of the playback. This is the first time I've encountered anything like it and I wasn't exactly sure how to discuss it without sounding like a crazy person, so I made a last minute decision to scrap it in the final edit.
@@DeckHeadGaming In my little bit of research on it that seemed to be the same thing. No FPS drop, but stuttering. I guess to the point of being unplayable for some people. Which is really strange. That's a pity though. Maybe the dev team will be able to find a solution for it in the future. The devs still seem to be updating the game so there's a chance!
@StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews At least I know I'm not crazy, now. Was there any issue on Windows or only Steam Deck? The game actually has a Linux version and Valve made an update to SteamOS recently to run the native Linux version by default. It may be related, as this is the first game I've come across on the Deck in native Linux.
@@DeckHeadGaming I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was on both. One of the solutions for some was to make sure that the game was to change graphics settings when running the game. Apparently for laptops, it would try to use the integrated graphics instead of the dedicated card. Obviously, that's not the issue with the Deck though.
@StealthyshiroeanHumbleReviews Interesting. I'll have a play around and see if I can fix it.
A few interesting games, not bad!
Was waiting for your video for this month. Atlas fallen is the game I’m most interested in, glad to see it runs well on the deck. Thanks!
Sorry this video was later than usual. This week was pretty busy. I had never heard of Atlas Fallen before, but it's a well polished game and runs great on the Deck.
The youtube algorithm brought me here and i can say...yea i'll be watching you going forward
Welcome to the channel!
Didn't know that game but seems pretty interesting, i would love the key
I love how much you thoroughly describe each title in the bundle. I don't think I'll pick up this months bundle, but I will definitely share your content with my friends. :3
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video! I think a lot of people will end up skipping the bundle this month. It's decent as a whole, but there aren't any real standout titles.
Grabbed it day 1 it was a good deal just for bomb rush.
@@Brendon_Shepherd Excellent value, even just for Bomb Rush!
Where’s the FPS counter?
I've been using Steam's new built-in game recorder since last month because it's more convenient and reliable than Decky Recorder, but the current version only captures the game window and not the entire screen. I can see the FPS counter while playing, but unfortunately it doesn't show in playback.
You’re a deck head
Thank you!
I would love that key
thank you sir for this video, but it would be awesome if you could share your keyboard and mouse layout for this game, as I didn't find any on the "community layout" section of the game😅
@@-Monty97- I thought about sharing it but decided not to as it would make my Steam handle very public. However, I will put together a screenshot of my layout sometime soon and link it to make replicating it easier.
Great video, thank you!
Seems like an interesting enough idea for a game but not sure it would be for me. Although, that said...running a board game store on the other hand might pique my interest a lot more. The ability to play the card game in the future would be a really fun feature added to the game. Maybe they could even make it so the shop owner could set up tournaments or something?
I would totally be into running a board game store. In a more recent update, they actually added board games as sellable products, but it's not as fleshed out as the card system at this moment. You can already host tournaments in the store, but for now it's essentially just a game event you can invest in to potentially make more money. Still, there's a lot of potential to the game with very regular updates. It's certainly one to keep an eye on.
@@DeckHeadGaming Hmm, that is pretty neat. Well...one more for the wishlist haha
Thank you for the indepth review! Keep it up! Definitely buying this game now! Bought t on my PC and now buying it on my Steam Deck!
My pleasure!
Fixed one problem. Now my steamdeck controls aren't working 😭
Oh no! I'm not sure what could have caused that. Is it just in P5S or system wide?
I was about to try this, did you find a fix for this? Cause i just went through fixing my controls for cemu a few weeks ago and i don't wanna go through that again xD
Can you post your controller config under community layouts
@@Jinzing1 I did consider doing that, but unfortunately it would come with my Steam user ID attached to it, and I'd prefer to keep it private. Sorry for the inconvenience. I know simply loading the config would be much easier for everyone.
@@DeckHeadGaming Then maybe you could have simply showed the Controller Settings screens from the Deck via pressing the Steam button while in-game. Then folks could see the visual complete layout. If you changed details then simply press "A" on that particular button to show them... easy, peasy.
@@TheSavage1969 That would have been an easy way of sharing it. I wish I'd thought of that 😅
@@DeckHeadGaming thanks for making that video. great config. the only thing thats missing is the steam button layout overview :)
@chb1741 You're absolutely right. I never even considered adding the layout overview on the Steam button menu. I'll make sure to include it if I do another control layout video.
This looks awesome, but seems like it wouldnt feel right without kbm
A mouse probably would be just that little bit quicker, but being able to play on the go is a huge advantage. The game is really well suited to short play sessions when you want a quick action game fix but don't have a lot of time.
the controls arent the best on the steam deck as it isnt analog and functions like im using the d pad when im not, is there a fix for this?
I've never had that issue and haven't heard similar reports from other users. It could very possibly be a defect. I would recommend contacting Valve and doing an RMA. From the stories I've heard, Valve is always extremely helpful in these situations and are quick to send out a replacement.
Does the Steam Logo button bring up any menus on the Steam Deck? What about the Quick Access Button (3 Dots). Does that bring up the Quick Access Menu on the Steam Deck?
@@GAMINGMATRIXXX Yes, the Steam button brings up the Steam menu and the Quick Access button brings up the Quick Access Menu. Games which support the Deck's controller scheme also show the same buttons as the Steam Deck, as opposed to an X-Box controller buttons.
Excellent! Thank you for confirming that. Just one more question; How is the D-Pad on it for Fighting Games? That’s what I will primarily be using it for on my Steam Deck.
@GAMINGMATRIXXX I haven't played any fighting games on it yet, but I'll try it out later today and get back to you.
@@DeckHeadGamingCool. Thx.
@@GAMINGMATRIXXX I tested out the D-pad. I personally prefer the feel of the 8BitDo controller's D-pad because there is less resistance when pushing in the buttons and it feels more like a modern controller. Having said that, the Horipad's D-pad functions perfectly fine and didn't hinder the inputs. It actually reminded me a lot of using a SNES controller to play Street Fighter 2.
Thanks for the video, man. makes sense how you used your buttons. There should be a way to show it in game, otherwise you gotta be thinking about it all the time. For example, unjam, V, L4. Not used that often, so in the middle of a firefight, you have that additional time to translate the input to what you changed it to. Hope the devs do something about it
Absolutely. With unjam in particular, there's about a half second delay as my mind processes exactly that Unjam > V > L4 sequence. It's a decent workaround, but it's less than ideal.
Keep up the reviews
Thank you for that!
No worries!
First time watching your content! Was looking on a zero sievert video on steam deck and found you. Very interesting and help full... thank you so much for it! BTW yes I want that key!! Haha enjoy
Enjoying the video, and had to playback the intro because I could swear you called us something other than DECK heads haha. Loved the word play.
@@Bob-g8i2v Glad you enjoyed the video!
I'd like the key, please! I enjoyed the video plenty, it's really nice to have a humble bundle review focused on how good the games are on the Steam Deck. Excactly what I was looking for!
I'm glad to hear the video was helpful!
How do you find the triggers on this thing? What I love to do with the Steam Controller is bind the right trigger to aim down sights on the half pull, then shoot on the full pull, so I can do both in the same motion and free up the left trigger for other binds. Can you do that comfortably here or would it be too easy to misinput?
You can set a full pull and half pull response on the triggers, but mechanically the triggers have so little movement in depth when you press them, it's near impossible to physically do it.
Can you turn the LCD steam deck on from sleep mode remotely with this controller?
Unfortunately no. That would be a great feature.
@ ah ok. Thx for the quick response.
You say there's no native controller layout but on the Steam store it says there's full controller support for Xbox, PS and Steam Input API? Is this a newer update since you post this video?
You're quite right! I just tried with the basic gamepad layout, and they seem to have added full controller support sometime after full release.
Nice to follow up on questions 👍
Its coming to the US in dec. Its on Amazon now
Nice! It's a solid controller for any Steam user, so it should sell pretty well.
id love to have the key, ive played and beat the game myself but theirs a friend i would love to give it to
I guess the sticks are not hall effect? Does it work with non-steam games without adding them to steam library?
The sticks are not Hall effect. Good question re non-Steam game support. It is supposed to function as a regular controller and has a toggle switch for changing between Steam mode and X-input mode, so in theory it should work, but I didn't think to test it. I'll try it this weekend and get back to you.
Thanks a lot! It helped!)
Great series of vids, have subscribed. Would also love to see some HLTB times added. Would also like to throw my hat in the ring for the guardians key.
Adding HLTB times is a great suggestion! I'll start putting them in from the next video.
Found your channel scrolling, amazing video sadly im skipping this moth good luck with the giveaway I have so much fun with Guardians of the Galaxy
Welcome to the channel! This month's games, the benchmark was certainly higher, but I do agree that there were no real standout games either. Guardians is one of my fondest gaming experiences in the Deck. Great storyline and gameplay that stays fun start to finish. I can't believe I struggled to give it away last time.
Why don't they make an update for a software and change on/off by holding start and menu buttons, for example.
That would be a much more elegant solution. Unfortunately, I think all controller designers have fallen into the trap of middle button = power button, and users have also come to expect it.
would u please post a video with your controll settings?
Sure thing. I'll put together a short video this weekend.
Great premise for a UA-cam channel. It's good to know what works on the Steamdeck. I wasn't expecting to be called a deck head at the start of the video and for a second I was pretty sure you had said something else. Haha
